OK speaker/stereo guys... Honest opinions on my idea

i'm in the process of reconditioning the complete seating and all surroundings when completed I wil let you know. A few Margaritas can be consumed too that is if you would like to partake

 sounds great to me...

A point to keep in mind when using West Epoxy regular polyester based resin materials will not adhere to Epoxy. If one decided to coat a job that was done with epoxy with regulare body filler it would not adhere proper.

OK, reevaluated the sub location issue today... I am thinking of mounting an infinite baffle Sub in this location which fires fwd in the cockpit...

Then mounting a Sealed enclosure sub mid line at the stern of the cockpit... What are your thoughts on this set up... Also I plan to run the subs in parallel to achieve a 2 ohm load, is this going to be an issue since one needs to be an IB and the other a sealed sub?

Running the two differing types (Sealed/IB) of subs and the relation to impedance load is not any issue. What you should be concerned about is individual output of each sub driver and the fact that you will not have an individual gain control for each. You should build in something now to adjust each driver regardless of sealed,IB or mix. This is as easy, and best controlled, as having a dedicated amp for each bass driver.

I cannot reply to your placement choice. I simply can’t see from your photo what you have completely.

I don't like a Frankenstein mix if it can be avoided. In a small cockpit you will get the best results from using identical woofers, collected and symmetrically positioned if not side by side. An Infinite Baffle and Air Suspension woofer should both sound great and behave similarly at moderate volumes. But at high volumes with longer excursions the Air Suspension is a more linear form of control and will deliver greater output with greater power handling. So much of this will depend on precisely where and how the woofers are positioned, how much power and your particular expectations. But usually simple is best.

Hey guys, I am going to try and help you see how my back deck is laid out so you can give me some better ideas...

Here's pic 1

The first sub location is next to the driver on the angled partition... as a frame of reference.

10'' sub location.jpg

Or would it be better to mount both IB 10's here?
better option.jpg

Any ideas???

as always thanks for any ideas!

You say “Or would it be better to mount both IB 10’s here”. Does this mean that this is your total sub bass support or is there more coming? If this is all you will be purchasing I would mount one sub driver up front and mount the other in a rearward/corner spot if rear floor plan allows.

I would pick the first location (your photo examples) for the single sub unless someone can tell me different. I think it will be best. I also like the rear starboard low corner for the second sub . . . pointing port.

This plan gives consideration in advance that You Will have drop outs as you move about the cockpit if you go with a single sub location. Single sub or two subs in same location is still a single sub location.

Hifi,

If I would mount the two 10''s in the cabinet then yes that would be the whole set up... If I would mount one on the angled part of the bench then the other in the rear of the deck that I believe is the way you would go. Now to do this set up I would have to use 1 IB and one Sealed. Or Do you think I can do a Sealed sub in the bench. It has a hatch that opens and is not completely sealed but is a very large space?

If it is not a “sealed” cabinet and it is not dimensionally correct then I WOULD use the IB version.

I agree with David’s earlier contribution on keeping things the same in reference to mixing IB sub with sealed sub and I think that is your concern. I, personally, think you will be fine mixing for several reasons providing you have two locations like discussed, discrete amp and controls for each sub location.
