Official SRV 240 Weekender Thread! (1972-1980)

Its Gem, Kristy! Hang onto it!

the vinyl in seats gets brittle with age, you'll see this happen in all of it. i photo them from many angles, then get an upholsterer's quote to do it all. the oem material fades, so getting a match is tough. It won't be cheap, but very worthy of its cost, especially since your initial investment was extremely low.

Kristy, when you’re ready to sell it this forum has a classified section where you can list it.

Judging by that one picture it looks like a 240 Weekender to me.

More pics would be great.
Good luck!

Kris, up there as you say, you have a month to use then a long time to decide. As i say, when in doubt do nothing, prevents regrets. I like you took tje course, great idea. Old seats and such are easily replaced through places you can find on here. Dont make a quick decision. You will have all winter to read threads here, talk to people, decide if boats are for you (it’s not for everyone).

i usually deal with wood by using the old rotten pieces to make patterns... then i make new pieces from plywood, get new hardware as best i can, and have the upholsterer cut new foam. I'll usually apply a cost of poly varnish, or even a skim of activated polyester resin on the foam side and edges prior to upholstering, then coat the remaining exposed sides carefully after, to help keep moisture out.

i use brass or stainless hardware, abs Monel staples, as corroded hardware kills a great upholstery job.

these seats were much larger, and much better built than most 'factory-brand' standards... they just don't make seats like these as 'off-the-shelf anymore.

In the early 80's, the neighbors had a '71 220 Overnighter. Looked just like the above, with a slightly different cockpit, and no lower glass. I was out with them on it a bunch, and made great memories. Always thought it was a beautiful boat, and was the model that made me love Sea Ray. Also, other friends of ours and theirs had a 78 240. Also a beautiful boat.

They only made the SRV 240 Weekender for 8 years (1972-1980) and I'm wondering how many are still out there and operational? There are a couple of very nice models posted on here but most of the ones you see around the net are beaters in scrap yards. :(

Does anyone have any information on how many of the SRV 240 Weekenders were made per year or any other interesting stats? I have been looking around the net but I haven't been able to find any. If I do I will post them here.

So lets see them folks! Post the year of your SRV 240 Weekender and the mods you have done if any and lets see some pictures of your finished boat or the progress of your restoration!

This is my boat in mid restoration, I am trying to keep my boat as stock looking as possible but it is really tough seeing as none of the fabric, carpet and vinyl colors are still available. Gotta love the 1970'ies LOL.

So for anyone interested, I have a 240 flybridge that needs a new home... it has weather and wear, but it's an excellent start point for a restoration project for someone so inclined.

I'm in Eastern Iowa, but very willing to find a way to BRING IT to you, and unload it from a borrowed trailer, so that it can be taken under someone's wing... and I need to accomplish this by middle of August or so.

Anyone interested, send me a PM, I'll give you all the details.
