Official Caterpillar3116/3126 Thread

Looking to order a new sticker for the recently rebuilt starboard 3116. I could have sworn I saw instructions somewhere online as to how to do this.
Called Foley Cat in Delaware and they gave me a part number (7E2681) for the Caterpillar logo plate... very helpful (not).

This is the port engine sticker for the remanufactured engine.
Any help would be appreciated.

Trying to install a boost gauge with the maretron set up. I pulled this plug from the intake. I can’t match up the size so I can get an adapter for the pressure sensor. The plug looks to be metric

buy the cat adapter. I tried to find something locally and had zero luck, Batavia has them in stock usually and possibly a cat dealer local to you . It’s a straight cut thread so nearly impossible to find the right adapter. You’ll reuse the oring

That plug looks to be and SAE straight thread boss fitting - probably a -06 size. A -06 size is 9/16-18 thread. There are adapters to the NPT threads on the sensor.

That thread is 3/4”-16, the Maretron pressure sensor is 1/4” NPT. It’s an odd duck, so the CAT part Ryan listed is a good choice.

@Strecker25 Do you know what the NTP size is on the CAT part..1/4 or 1/8? I can’t remember, but thought mine was 1/8”. Just in case he needs one more adapter to go up or down as size on the NPT side.

I’m almost certain it’s 1/8”, I think I went straight into my 1/8 compression fitting (we have mechanical boost gauges)

I think your right…it 1/8” NPT. My 1/8” fit direct and the reason I didn’t use Maretron senders…

He is using Dwyer instruments. The industry standard is 1/4 NPT or -04 SAE Boss. The CAT adapter is for adapting a hose or tube as 1/8 NPT would be too fragile to hang an instrument; especially on a shaking structure.
3/4-16 thread is SAE Boss -08 size. This would be your fitting https://www.mcmaster.com/50925K452/
Are they available on Amazon????

I actually switched to the maretron. I removed the plug the aftercoolers right before the heater block.
Thanks again

Tom’s link to McMaster is the correct part. I think you can order from McMaster as a guest, but setting up an account is easy. For me they deliver next day, and shipping is reasonable.

That makes sense. Not only is it on a giant vibrating hunk of metal but in a very easy spot to snap off when laying across the engine (as we seem to do often when working on these boats)

First winterization for me of these Cats. Port engine fired up as soon as I bumped it. Starboard engine tried to start right up but then it shut down. Took a few times to get it started, but it started. I noticed what sounded like a whistling sound at the exhaust at the water line, and the water flow doesn't seem as normal to me. Could just be me though. Any ideas what that whistling noise could be?

The generator I had so much trouble starting last year fired right up after two tries, go figure..

fuel shutoff on? I forgot to turn mine on this year (again) and it causes the engine to stumble as it starves for fuel

winterization was just sucking in antifreeze, right? Nothing disconnected during the process? Whistling out the exhaust might just be a kink in the relief hose. Maybe a mouse crawled in there and made a nest?

Never thought to turn the fuel lines off when I winterized, so no changes there. Stumble is a good word for what it did though, it acted like it was going to fire right up, then struggled a bit, after three or four tries it hit. I had to bump the idle up a little bit to keep it running. It acted like it did when I changed out the fuel filters and had to prime it with the pump.

I watched the exhaust when it first started and saw all the antifreeze blow out. The flow seemed good. I went back to the helm to check some things, came back, and the flow seemed weak and I could hear the whistling noise.

Yes, just sucking in antifreeze for the winterization. No, nothing disconnected. I just remembered that's the engine that's been losing antifreeze. I found where I think it's been dripping when I winterized the engines, posted some pics here, a few of you told me to tighten up the clamps on the hose, so I did before starting it.

hmm the whistling is weird, I can’t think how it could be related to any of the winterization you did. Even if it torched the impeller somehow I don’t think you’d hear it outside the boat, unless it’s from a lack of water in the exhaust pipe changing the exhaust note

you could pull the impeller to get a look at it. Too bad it’s not the port side…

Speaking of which...

Amazon sells the Sherwood 12 Blade Sherwood Impeller Kit 17000K-SHW for $74: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007I8XCS4/ref=ewc_pr_img_2?smid=A1NECP2RNWGZ9X&psc=1

Who do you order yours from, and I thought there was a kit of 2?

I have the receipt on the boat I’ll look next time, but I think I ordered from marine parts source. I also bought the cover plate at the same time and couldn’t find a reasonable price on Amazon. I don’t recall ever seeing a 2 pack, though.
