Welcome to CSR and to the 400 Express!! She is a great boat and I love mine too, even more than before as I enter my fourth season wth her. You are going to keep loving her for many years to come. By the way, I like the look of the decking material that is on your swim platform. Did you install it or did it come with the boat? What brand is it?

if you have any questions, ask away. There are many of us here who have probably "been there, done that" with any situation you may face and are willing to help.

also, congrats on adding a photo with your first, and second, post!

So, I was able to check off a couple of projects from the wish/to do list.

First, I added footswitchs to my windlass, which I have wanted to do for some time.

I also added a stereo remote at the transom.

Then, I had another project come up that I was not expecting nor wanted.

Seems the transmission cooler on my starboard engine decided to call it quits and make the tranny fluid look like a foamy strawberry milkshake. So off to the store I went. Got an aftermarket cooler that is 3" longer than the original but it fit fine. Then after running about $100 I fluids through the tranny, I now have clear and clean tranny fluid again

Nice add Harold, thinking we need the full install story for the foot switches.
How did you accolmplish that?

After selling our '88 30' Sundancer last week we bought a '95 400 EC yesterday. looking forward to many fun years with her.

Like all used boats there are a few fixes a head of me like, fixing the air horn, front a/c unit turns on but doesn't blow any air, spot light only turns left to right, but not up & down, and new dash panel inserts are a must. Any help with these fixes would be a blessing!

Thanks Mark. Installing the foot switches was actually quite easy. Whole job took about 1 1/2 hours. The switches need a 3/8" hole through the deck just for the wires and then mounting screws to secure them. I bedded them in with 4000 sealant.

I started by by laying them on the deck to find my "best location" so that I can activate them and still have good footing on the deck near the windlass. As you can see I put them near the cleat on the port side. The underside of the deck in that area is pretty clear, just make sure the wire run for the spotlight is not in the way. There is also a support for the pulpit that runs near there but I was outboard of that too. Once my location was set, I drilled the 3/8 hole for the wire, they dry fitted to line it up. Marked the screw holes then added the bedding sealant.

I was was able to access the wiring in the anchor locker from behind the mirrored door at the head of the master bed. First, check which solenoid is up and which is down. The witches need one wire to power and the other to the appropriate solenoid. I took power from the positive cable feeding one of the solenoids and ran the other wire to the respective triggering terminal on the solenoid (I don't remember the correct name for it ).

I can can take some pictures of the wiring if anyone is interested.

The switches are Quick brand that I got from my local supply store. They came with enough wire that I did not have to add any.

Congrats! Welcome to the 400 Express! She looks great! You are going to love her.

Quick response on the remote spotlight, I had similar issue and found simplest to replace the light. I used a newer Jabsco model that used same wire and switch so that it was a plug and play job. There are some posts earlier in this thread about the job with some pictures if I remember right.

curious about your ex-fender holder..... Did someone turn that into a trunk?? Interesting idea. I would be interested in some close up pictures of that, if you don't mind.

Harold,
I did the same with my aft fender holder as I thought the fenders sticking up looked cheap. I made my cover out of 1" Kingboard Starboard and routed the top edge. I made cover a little large than original 4 hole cover. I made first out of wood and fiber-glassed it with a hinge similar to h-geery but found a few things did not fit in opening. I now have a one piece cover which I like much more. I use mine for ropes, dinghy fuel tank, aft anchor, water hose, and a few other things, very handy. I put a gasket around the perimeter of old opening and it stays dry on inside. I have some connectors to hold cover on similar to home speaker grill covers, name eludes me at the moment. The 1" Starboard is strong enough to stand on. Greg

Hi Harold,

Thanks for all the kind words. By chance do remember the part number for the spot light replacement?

Hope these trunk pictures help.

Talon,

Thanks for the pictures. I like the idea and it gives me something to thing about.

As for the spotlight, it is a Jabsco spotlight, but I can't remember if I used the 135SL or the 146SL. They are virtually the same light, just with different blubs. The 146SL is 175,000 candlepower while the 135SL is 100,000. I believe both are the same size unit and both use the same plug as the chrome lights that came on our boats.

Thanks Harold for the info! :smt001

Harold... Thank You... the platform covering is SeaDek the previous owner had it done... to my knowledge SeaDek has all the measurements now for this boat and anyone looking to purchase should be able to do so without making templates....

Just need some sunshine to start sprouting here in southern Michigan...getting a little anxious ....good thing we have more than enough water been a wet summer so far....

Does anyone know where Sea Ray mounts the relay box for the air condition water pump on the 400EC ('93)? Is it under the entry step?

Quick question for you 400 EC guys - does anyone have issues standing at the helm with the bimini top up - similar to the 370's? Are there differences in arch height like the 370's where they updated them in 1998 or so? Are the 1995's different than the new 1998/9's? Curious if I'll be able to stand while docking on this boat at 6'2".

Thanks.

Doug

Doug, it depends on the type and style of Bimini that you have. I am 6'1" and can stand at my helm with the top up. On my old 280 Sundancer, I could not do that because the Bimini attached directly to the windshield and did not have a clear panel above it.

Thanks Harold. Exactly what I needed to know. Must really be the 370's that suffer from the issue, not as much on the 400's.

The quest continues....

Doug, I can't say for sure if my canvas was original to the boat or if it was changed by a prior owner. I had the canvas redone but it did copy the canvas that was in place, but I am not sure if what was in place was the original canvas or not.

Does anyone know where I can find/purchase the vent window cylinder (motor) mechanism. I just purchased this boat and it is missing only have the wires hanging there.

I purchased my window vent motor from Amazon.
