Official 390DA Thread

how do i winterize these windshield washers? are they connected to the fresh water system or separate resevoir?
Again with compresed air feeding outlet hose of fresh water pump just hit the wash button for windshield until 95% air.

I use the valvolene 15-40 for all engs
Next up for me is the fresh water. empty tank. disconnect both hoses to FW pump. Hook up compressed air to outlet hose of FW pump. Go to every fixture (do this twice) and run 100% cold and then 100% hot till you get 95% air. last year i opened drain on hot water heater, not doing that this year. Now disconnect dock side water supply and hook up compressed air repeat above. I know this is a fair amount of work but my wife hated the taste of pink stuff in the spring.
Next pump out holding tank and put 2 gallons of pink stuff in each toilet-flush!
Next throw a half gallon of pink down floor drain in head and shower. Verify you get pink out the shower drain box.
Now the engs. I made garden hose fittings for my graco raw water strainers for 3 engs and AC strainer. Take a ~10 gal garbage can and connect garden hose (need bulk head fitting for this) to it. Connect hose to graco, fill garbage can with about 6 gals of pink, close seacock, run eng until pink is coming out exhaust. Same technique for AC.
Miller Time. Guess I got a little carried away here.
Lol nice, what about windshield wiper washers?

Yes no rez on my boat

How about a list of modification or upgrades that we've done?

My list would include:

I've upgraded a good number of the boat's lights to LEDs, changed out the amp and speakers to JL, installed a cockpit TV, replaced my salon AC unit and controller, added a GARMIN 5208 GPS MFD and changed my hot water heater to the 11 gallon model. I've tried to tackle upgrading the salon TV but realized that it isn't a simple upgrade for a number of reasons so we still have the pathetic 17" salon tv.

I've also done quite a bit of canvas and carpet work. I cut and sewed a back canvas cover (sunbrella) last year to replace the original. Made a canvas piece to cover the front glass and replaced the three salon sunbrella pieces. As far as carpet, I purchased and cut some marine carpet to replace the cockpit and cut a new piece for the swimstep.

Biggest job I did was blasting the bottom and applying barrier + antifoulant. Favorite upgrades were the cockpit TV, front glass cover (what a difference in temperature!) and larger water heater.

This spring my upgrade list includes adding swim step cleats (which should have come with the boat imo).

Thank god my wife doesn't know how much we really spend $$ on the boat . Fortunately I was able to do most of the work myself.
I am reading old posts to acquire my knowledge. Just 1 year with my 06 40da. I saw that you changed out your salon AC. I think my day for this job is coming up. I assume the frig has to come out first. After that how difficult is it working in that cave.

Two unrelated questions:
One-Look at picture of area behind bottom step (2006 40da) and tell me if you think that carpeted section is removable. I tried a little prying but got more resistance than i was comfortable with. are there screws somewhere?

two-removed screws from frame of refrigerator. Does refrig just pull out? I want to look at my ac for possible replacement.

Refrigerator just pulls out. Access to AC unit is good. As for Steps???

No need to do anything with the steps. The frig just pulls right out. May have to jiggle it a little. I changed my AC out as soon as I got my 2007 40 almost two years ago. Good access and easy area to work in.

I've taken that piece off basically to see what was behind it. It is screwed in a few places as well as nailed in. You can pry the whole piece off with carpet intact if you are careful and go slowly so that the screws won't do more than minimal damage to the wood.

Thank you

fellas, i have read through this whole thread, taken notes, i havent seen anyone replacing the cockpit fridge, what model did you go with? thanks. going to do all three this winter

I bought a 2004 Sea Ray 390DA last summer and some of the original electronics aren't working - the units in question are (1) Sea Ray Navigator and (2) Raymarine Pathfinder RL80C. There is also an Raymarine autopilot unit that appears to work correctly and a Mercruiser SmartCraft unit that works - but quit receiving depth data when the SRN went out. More detail below that gets to the actual questions:

(1) Sea Ray Navigator was working most of the summer until the screen went out - since I can't get past the initial start up options without seeing the screen, it won't send depth data to the SmartCraft / Pathfinder. I would like to replace this unit. Is there any option that is plug & play with existing wiring? I hope to avoid pulling the boat to replace the transducer. I understand I may need a new dash panel to fit a new unit which is fine.

(2) Pathfinder appears to work - turns on and can adjust settings, radar array spins up top, but I can't get it to pick up anything on screen. I have adjusted all settings and I basically either get nothing, or a screen full of feedback. I'm not terribly motivated to replace this unit as the lake where my boat is located is very familiar to me and radar is only a "nice to have" in this environment. Is there anything I should be thinking about here with respect to the SRN replacement and how it works with this unit?

(3) Finally, is there a way to bypass the SRN to have depth data sent directly to the SmartCraft or Pathfinder unit in the interim?
I could honestly live without all of the electronics until I pull the boat if I could get the depth finder working.

SRN - the Navigator is essentially a PC self-contained running on Windows XP. It's data sources are unique to that unit and does not share instruments with the Ray equipment other than autopilot data. There should be a disc drive and system disc's that came with the boat. You can reboot the unit on the disc then figure out what is going on. The interface for the disc drive is from the SRN outlet below the helm. The instruments that provided data (depth and position) are NMEA 0183 based and the Raymarine data is from instruments that provide Seatalk1 protocol (that is if everything is still original). The only feed from the Raymarine is the autopilot data and that comes from the 0183 connection on the Course Computer. I've got a picture somewhere of the components that I removed from my boat that I'll try and dig up. I'd recommend deleting the Navigator as charts haven't been available for years.
On the Pathfinder - it appears that one of three things - the Magnatron has failed, the main board failed, or the power connector is corroded or not making good connection (the Magnatron requires a good bit of electrical current). I had two complete scanners with power cords that I gave away - you can pretty much get all the parts for no cost.

Agree with the above.
To remove the carpeted section, find the Philips screws with a magnet on the surface of the carpet. The carpeted piece is pretty tight in there. Nothing in it, just access to the bottom step nuts.

Let’s go fellas, time to get back in the game almost spring! Here’s a question, what tv u running in the cockpit, what’s the biggest size, and which brand makes the best for daylight viewing ?

I have a 12v Samsung that you can see in this picture. Washed out picture on bright days even with full canvas up. But, I'm not watching TV on bright days on the boat. The PO installed it. I use my Verizon 5g to stream with my phone.

Definitely "spring time" DLS and water getting turned on next week. TV! Well last year went to great lengths to watch my NY Jets march to the SB. Well that did not happen but I did get a TV. I am new owner and PO had some connections for a TV behind the helm seat for viewing around the table (2006 DA). I chucked the 120V ac to 12v DC inverter brick and just went with 32" samsung straight 120v. Got a chrome plated little pole and mounted TV to it. The tv was just a low end model $200- and only watched it a couple times. Cannot imagine any tv (even those $$$ 4000 NIT jobs) would not get washed out in direct sun. I did have Glomax supported coax already at tv but I think some kind of hot spot feed to a smart tv is the way to go. Maybe football will be better for me this year...could not be any worse!
