Official 380 Thread

Wrong end of the season but better late than never. The boat is finally in the water, after 15 months of refit.
CAT 3116 engines removed and serviced (one rebuilt), generator removed and rebuilt, fuel tanks replaced, transom core removed and replaced with Coosa. New swim platform, Vacuflush completely replaced including all hoses. The list goes on.

Looks good. Gotta ask, where in NE MD do they have concrete floating docks?

Ah, I was at Charlestown marina across the river for about 14 years back in the late 80's-90's.
I don't think NERYC had the concrete floating docks then. My understanding is there was a plan to replace the aging docks, when a storm came through and did a lot of damage. They were able to get loan guarantees to greatly expand the dock plan and move everyone from mooring balls to floating slips.
The timing worked out as the membership with moorings/slips doubled.
Only 40 minutes from the house near Wilmington. They also have a restaurant and bar.

Buddy who had his boat near mine on the hard at Bay Boat Works, just launched as well and is at Charlestown. Don and Mary are still the owners at Bay Boat Works.

I know exactly where you're located. Used to fly into Martin State airport (MTN) back when I had an airplane dealership. Beautiful area.

Question for you 380 guys. Has anyone put a dinghy davit on there boat for a 10'6" RIB? Curious what you used? My friend has a 380 and want's a dinghy and is thinking of the Hurley H2O davit on a 36" extension, but is worried that the extension may be too much when going slow. What do you think?

I had a Hurley H20 davit on my 380 for several years when we used to travel. we had a 10' rib.

I have the 2022 Highfield Classic 310 (10’-3”) with a 20 HP Suzuki. I am using the Hurley H20 Davit with three hold downs and the 10” mounts. I have enough room to squeeze between. In the pictures shown it looks wider than the boat but it’s not obviously.
All tole about 300 lbs. If you have doubts about lifting onto davits, you can opt for the H30. Love the Hurley davits.

Least amount of extension the better.

Thanks guys, just the answer we were looking for.

Distribution of weight. I have zero experience with back wash, however it would be wise to come off of plane very slowly as that rib with be hanging pretty far out there. IMO

+1. I've got my dink waaaayyyy off the back, flooding the dinghy is possible but not that hard to avoid. The impact of having that much weight cantilevered that far off the transom is real, though. With 36" extensions I'd think @SKybolt's buddy would want/need to add support struts to the platform.

That's the thing, for me certain slow speeds do back wash the dink a bit. Mine is set so the center line of the dink is just off of the platform giving about two feet to walk past. On my buddies 380, he is concerned about being able to open the back compartment and be able to walk past the dink. I recommended the 36" extension but am concerned about the back wash, a little is fine but too much rumble is bad.

Very nice setup @Stee6043. That's a big dink to tow around. For me the dink is more fun then big boat at times. Or the two together makes for the best of times.

Another vote for support struts.
Having rebuilt the transom on mine, I highly discourage anyone from cantilevering a dinghy on the stock swim platform, unless support struts are added.
For the 380 (and possibly others), SeaRay thought it was wise to add the transom coring material over top of an inner layer of gelcoat, then apply fiberglass over that.
The result is the gelcoat on the inside of the transom, beneath the coring and fiberglass, develops cracks. Lots of them. This sets up a perfect path for moisture to then migrate to the coring material.

That thing was a game changer for us (fam of 5). Tubing, cruising places we can't take the Sea Ray, we put gobs of hours on the Suzuki every year. And she rides just great on the back of the Sea Ray...

As I have heard and know first hand the cabin door on the 380‘s have a tendency to hang up and not open and close with ease. A few years ago I replaced the upper track and “trucks” rollers all the way around. I used the same as OEM non-metallic track and trucks. It needs another rebuild and so this time I plan to replace all the hardware, track and trucks. Boat-Outfitters is where I purchased the hardware before (non-metallic). I see that FP Marine sells the hardware only the track is aluminum. Any recommendations to go with aluminum or the non-metallic track? I really would like to repair and forget about it for awhile. Thanks in advance.

I am no help, but feel your pain. I replaced the trucks on mine last year, so far so good. My challenge is where the two doors meet/overlap. How do you get them to "connect" again so closing the one on the right pulls the one on the left closed?

I remember a post but couldn’t find it. Does anyone know where to source these covers for the windlass buttons?
