I am just under 1400 on my gas one, hoping to get to 2000!Over 2000 hours. Was not very well maintained by the prior owner with oil sample showing very old oil. Want to baseline all the mechanical systems, so out it came.
More than one generator mechanic has told me there's no reason you can't get 5,000 hours on a gas oneI am just under 1400 on my gas one, hoping to get to 2000!
Changing out some gold in the salon, looking to take the reading lights out. I did the one in the aft first, I THOUGHT that was a pita.
Damn, the 2 in the stateroom! The splices are above the trim that it’s mounted to. Trying to gently pull them through the ceiling to unplug. No movement that I can see…. Who else has changed these, and what advice do you have?

What did you have to remove to get it out? Exhaust tubes? Curious how it came out.
Awsome! Appreciate the pics. 2-3 man job?Correct, the starboard exhaust tubes were pretty much it. Additionally, bought a tilt-lift hoist sling off Amazon for $80. This was critical, as it allowed for tilting the generator at different angles to get it out, otherwise there would have been a lot more scraping. Used a forklift as the attach point with a chain hoist.
Putting it back is going to be interesting, as I would prefer not to scratch up the refurbished generator. Have some sheets of lexan I plan on cutting to lay up against the starboard engine and the fuel tank. Should create a smooth "chute" to assist dropping it back in place. We'll find out.

Just me and the forklift operator. The tilt-lift hoist sling made all the difference. It has a cable drum that uses a 1/2 inch ratchet to make 1/4" tilt adjustments on the fly with one hand. Would not have even tried it but the mechanic who did the engine surveys, assured me he had done this multiple times for a diesel 380DA.Awsome! Appreciate the pics. 2-3 man job?
I may have missed it, what make/model light did you go with? I'd love to get rid off all of the brass lights, thought I see where brass/gold fixtures have made a comeback in houses. So, I figured this out, first one in the aft is where to start. It’s just tight, but straight forward.

Does anyone know which hull, shaft and trim tab anodes our 380s take? I plan to do a short haul soon and want to replace them, I prefer to not pay the service shop to do it for me.
Thanks, do you know what diameter for the trim tabs?mine did not have shaft zincs, heard no 380s from that era came with them

I asked boatzincs.com which material was best for the water we will be boating in, which is mostly fresh but some salt, he said aluminum.
