Official 370 Sundancer thread

Quick question!!! Winterizing is done but last night woke up thinking about the Hot water heater. The heater was drained of fresh water. It is heated by the Starboard engine when cruising so is that acomplished by the FWC side or the RWC side? Do I need to disconect the lines and blow them out? My boat is 4 hours away so If I nese to go back down I need to do it soon...

Here is my experience with that silly water heater on my current boat and last boat. There is more water in there than you think!! The drain does not completely empty the tank. On my 370 there is actually a gray in color water line that is in the water heater compartment and runs through the wall into the bilge where it is not hooked to anything. It is also not hooked to anything in the heater compartment. What I learned is that if you hook that up to the outgoing water line (IE un hook the line that feeds the house system) and blow compressed air through the main line at the pump/holding tank...you will be surprised at how much more water will come out.

Some might argue that it is too little to freeze and cause any damage, but I err to the side of safer is better than sorry in this case. I generally get 1-2 more gallons out when I push air through it that way. Why disconnect the outgoing line from the heater?? Well, if you don't you have to wait for it to get all the way through the water system to some end point, so why not just un-hook it at the point of exit and get it out of the heater. The extra line that Sea Ray added in that compartment was actually brilliant in my opinion. Must have been a design addition by a mechanic/boater...I don't think an engineer would have thought of it...LOL Good Luck...

My concern is about the engine water that goes from the engine to the hot water heater and back to the engine. Is it part of the FWC system or is it part of the RWC side? I need to know if I need to go back to the boat and winterize that part of the water line or is that done when I winteized the engine?

Unless I am mistaken it is the engine anti-freeze side for the closed cooling. BUT, if it isn't and you winterized by running anti-freeze through the engine sea strainer or thru hull pick up you would still be good. If it isn't closed cooling and you simply drained the blocks and called it good....get in the car and drive 4 hours...LOL Sorry, hate to see you have to do that but......I wouldn't sleep all winter if I had any doubt.

TheWolfTC ... I guess I am just parinoid this being my first time doing this boat. My past boats I did the winterizing but were mushc smaller and less systems to worry about. You are right it shouldn't matter cause I did run the engines to pump the antifreeze thru from the sea strainer. If it was on the RWC side it would have flushed out with the antifreez and if it is on the FWC side it has antifreeze in it anyway.

Thanks for helping me settle that issue.

I need to know what size /make fridge you have on your early 90's 370 ec's please.Model # if you have it.mine needs repair but ive found a never used take off for less than the repair would be.Thanks Glen

I found it,norcold 540 ,i could of bought a dometic for 350 new take off but its 2 inches too narrow.I guess i will be going to cleveland and pulling mine out for repair.Yuck!

The water heater is plumbed from your engine water pump back to the thermostat housing. It is the FWC side.

Oh, and by the way, Beach House II had her 10 year birthday (to me) yesterday. Still the best one I've ever had.

Ok its official ,i just closed on my new to me 1992 370express with cummins 6bta diesels. Can i join now, officialy? Glen

Congratulations Glen and good luck with the new boat. The straight drives and Cummins power sounds like an awesome set up for that boat. You don't actually need to own one of these boats to be welcome here. I originally started this thread but don't have a Sundancer anymore and nobody chased me away. Mark

Has anyone with a 1994-1997, 370 removed their generator for repair or replacement? That dang thing looks like it is tucked in their snugger than an Alabama tick on a wart hog!! It has to be able to come out without pulling the engine doesn't it??? Anyone seen or heard of this being done?

Ours was taken out for repairs when we first purchased. They removed that side hatch cover, disconnected every thing and carefully lifted it out.

Has anyone replaced the gas shock(s) for the trunk (can't remember if its one or 2). If so does anybody have a link to the exact shock they replaced it with? I replaced it 2 years ago and the one i got was a different pressure curve so it would fling open once opened halfway and drop and slam shut when halfway closed.

I nearly took mine out to replace a failed exhaust manifold, but was able to just un-mount it, and turn it enough to get to the manifold. I would image that you would have to remove the exhaust manifold, and outlet hoses on the Starboard side of the Starboard engine to get enough clearance to raise the genset. Possibly you would have to disassemble the genny a bit too. Still better than pulling the engine.

I need to know the size of the area left of the helm where my r20 display and loran 575 are mounted ,any one know.I am thinking of installing a rl80c there that is 11.5 x 14.5 if it will fit. Thanks glen

We installed the rl80c when we purchased our 370DA 6 years ago. It will fit with a little cutting.

It has taken me forever, but it looks like first of the year I get to go to survey on a 370 DA. The boat is in pretty good condition. It does needs some work. The thing I worry about is the helm instrument panels. They are in really bad shape. I have browsed through this and other threads on Club SeaRay and see a variety of recommendations on where to go to get replacement panels. I would be happy with original equipment or something custom.

What is the current best option these days?

Thats ok cg i looked around on yacht world and found one the same year as mine with the rl80c.Just fits where the r20 and loran are currently. It will be a nice upgrade for the boat.I think i will have to have a panel made that covers the entire area so i can center the rl80 also, either from acrylic or starboard.Glen
