Official 330 Sundancer Thread

David what can you recommend bedding the stantion with besides 5200? I assume I need something a bit stronger than a silicon...?

This is not to sound snotty...what exactly do you define as bedding? To some it is the repair of a soft deck core. To me it is a seal between the stanchion and the deck. Do you define it the same as I? I don't know which is correct.

If we are on the same sheet, this article may be of some help.

I have never used anything stronger than 4200. It is far more forgiving.

Here is another newbie question... I'll be sure to get all my newbie questions out this fall so next year I'll be ready to go!

I'm starting to plan my attack of winterizing and in doing so I'll be changing all my oil. That means genset, transmission and blocks. Since we're all in the same boat, no pun intended, can someone tell me which oil & oil filters to use for the following?

7.4L (carbs) 1997 MerCruisers
4.5k Westerbeke Genset
Hurth HSW 630 V1 Tranny (obviously no filters)

As for my bedding question I took it to mean adhereing the stantion base to the deck.

Thanks

I don't have the #s with me at the moment; but I switched my fuel and oil filters to the NAPA counterparts a couple of boats back. They are available in just about every port and they deliver. AAA membership gives you 7% off at almost all their stores.

If you think of it can you look up the filter numbers next time you're on board? Thanks!

As for Oil Filters I have always used a FRAM PH-30 filter. As for Oil I use Valvoline Racing Oil, Straight 40 weight or 25W-50 depending on what is available (I believe it is about 7.5 quarts per motor). During the winter months I keep a watch for sales at Wallmart and usually stock up.

Google marine bedding compound. There are tons of brands and articles. When you remove the old stanchion, check to see if any moisture has gotten in the core of the deck. If not, your good. If so, you need to route out the contaminated core, fill, drill, and rebed the new stanchion.

Let us know where you stand in that area. The rebedding is easy.

Hey Yall! I'm moving up from a 20 Sundeck to a 33-35 Sundancer, anyone know whats the smallest I can get twin 454's in? This time I'm going for power Yeah I'm looking for a long weekender for 2.5 people I'll put Sat TV on it and install bow thrusters for sure. I saw one that had rear thrusters also but I think thats a little too much.

Well not quite sure depends on the year of the boat. I have 454's in our boat and that engine room is tight, there is not too much space between the engines. They are pretty common in most late 90's models from the 330 through the 370. Then the 8.1's come in, in the 2000's...

I'm looking at yrs 1998-2006. Is there a big difference in the 8.1's ?

I just posted this pic on the Northeast forum, but seeing that its appropriate for this forum I thought I'd repost here. Also I love the early morning lighting of the houses in the background.

Does this boat have a "Cored hull" or is it solid F.G.??????
Thanks in advance,
Brian

I'm 99% sure the hull is not cored... but I do not know from experience. Just an educated guess. I would think coring wouldn't come into play until something closer to 40' if at all.

Anyone know for sure what the deal is on the 330's?

There is NO coring below the rub rail, except for the wood in the transom. There is coring in the decks.
