Official 330 Sundancer Thread

A question for all the 330 owners... do your trim tabs extend below hull lines when pushed down all the way?

I had my hauled a few weeks ago to have my props reconditioned and I noticed that the trim tabs when pushed down as far as they would go were on the same angle as the bottom of the boat. So really they acted more like an extenion of the hull rather than actually going below the hull.

Let me try a picture so they looked like this hull -- -- tab
When I would expect them to look like this hull -- \ tab but not quite this drastic of an angle.

My initial thought is to cut a block of Starboard and use it as a spacer on the tab where the piston (actuator) connects to the tab. That would give me at least an 1" more of travel.

They need to go below at an angle to boat bottom or you will not get proper function. I would check your system out.

Check the fluid level in the reservoir mounted in the transom inside the ER. To check the fluid level the tabs need to be retracted fully. The fluid level should be about an inch below the top of the reservoir.

If you need to add fluid I find putting ATF fluid in one of the generic plastic ketchup bottles with a tapered tip makes the project much simpler. You will need to remove the plastic cover on top of the hydraulic unit and in the front corner remove the little plastic plug that seals the reservoir. Then you can fill the reservoir.

LTD 330 - I saw your post back in March regarding the rear gas shock for locker. Did you find a replacement? I need to order one. Could you point me in the right direction?
Thx

I need to replace the gas shock on my transom locker hatch. Does anybody know what the replacement size of the shock is?

Thanks.

I took the old gas shock into West Marine and found an exact match. It was a 9.5 inch Gas Strut made by Taylor.

Hi all

I have recently had made two new moulds (taken from my original air intake vent covers) for my boat and as the owner of the moulds I can supply new GRP (Glass reinforced Plastic) covers that fit perfectly and are much much stronger than the original units.

I can supply them for £75 (uk Pounds) each side plus P&P and I am willing to ship worldwide.

Regards

Tony

If anyone need to see hi res pictures of the ones I have fitted to my boat (without any adjustments) then please contact me directly at tonycclark@aol.com
Hi Tony,
do you still have a port and starboard blower vent covers?
Will you ship to Canada if so how much? how do you want payment?
I currently have a 1996 searay sundancer.

thanks very much,
john

Not 330 specific, but was wondering if the hard wired CO detector in the cabin needs to be replaced after a certain amount of time? The ones you can buy for your house have about a 7 year life span before they display an ERR code, and sound a chirp to tell yoiu that it is time to replace the unit. Any thoughts?

Fuel burn specs (gph) - now that I've owned the boat for a couple months...

I searched this thread and didn't find much on this. I would think some of you have Flo Scans or something telling what these boats burn. My rough calcs, based on topping off the tanks, running the boat for a couple hours and refilling, have put me at burning 27 GPH at an average of 3200 RPMs which is 22 knots or 25 mph. So that is about .93 miles to the gallon, which is what I expected based on some other postings on different forums for these boats. Keep in mind these are carbs too.

Also on a side note, I had my props reconditioned and it turns out the props are not the factory 17x17. They are some kind of hybrid with 17 diameter but 19 pitch at one end of the blade and 17 pitch at the other... weird. Never heard of that. This could be why my WOT RPMs are only 4000. I'll look into having them put back to 17x17 this off season.

Actually I'd be curious to know how the drives compare? Low 20's??? I know they'll be less than the v-drives. I just moved up from a boat with a bravo drive and frankly I'll take the increased fuel burn. Painting and scraping that drive was about the worst part of getting the boat ready!

About 19 GPH @3000 RPM ,since going to 4 blade props I can keep the boat on plane @ 2800 RPM which gets me around 24 MPH,3000 nets me 27MPH,3200 29 MPH ,WOT 4500 47MPH. Agreed on the maintenance, but we are in fresh water. However there's the argument about sterndrive vs v drive that's a subject that has been discussed here. They both have issues IMHO.

Re 330 vent covers

If anyone is interested in buying and needs shipping quote then please supply post/Zip code for me to get best price.

My previous post estimated around £75 Uk ($116.00 and C$ 120.00) P and P to the states/Canada using Parcelforce Worldwide service however I have checked out the DHL prices and these seem cheaper, using DHL this comes out at £45 UK ($70.00 C$72.00)

Hi Tony,
Did JBL33 e-mail you? It seems he is anxious to get a pair of those covers.

Aluminum Radar Arch paint issue...

So does anyone have any preventive or maintenance points about the radar archs on these boats?

Mine is starting to bubble in a few spots. I'm not sure if there is anything I can do to stop this or slow it down. My friends boat has the bare aluminum exposed in a few places and he has no idea how to fix these bare spots.

I'm curious too, but would also love to know what other owners are doing to prevent this, if possible...

Thanks

Ippa2,
I also have that bubbling on my arch. I spoke with my gelcoat/paint guy and he wants to remove the arch and repaint it. I am considering doing it this winter:smt021. I REALLY don't feel like removing it but I think he is correct in stating that it is the only true way to get a thorough repair. We are going to consult on this again soon when I get my new port bilge vent cover from him. He said the reason it is bubbling up is due to improper surface preparation before painting it originally. I wish these were fiberglass!!!

I had heard also the "proper" way to correct this is remove the whole thing and redo it to the tune of about $2k. If that is the ONLY way to fix it I will wait another 5 years until I have some serious cracking going on. I'm not about to put $2k into it only because of a few bubbles.

Let me know if there are any cheaper, easier ways to remedy this or at least postpone doing a full redo on the arch.

And yes I wish they were fiberglass too!

Hello, I am new here and would like to find a nice clean looking stationary transom motor mount for holding a 2hp Honda outboard for our dinghy. Anyone have any ideas where I can find one? I am especially interested in one I saw on a Sea Ray which had 3 short posts (ea. approx 8" long) mounted to the transom with a plate attached. Thanks much.

Todd

Yes he did and is after port and stb side so many thanks for your help.

You're welcome Tony. I'm glad you guys were able to hook up. Your covers look excellent in the pics you sent. It just so happened that I was able to get together with another CSR member locally and borrow his cover to make a mold for my fiberglass guy. If we didn't hook up I would be ordering a few covers too. Thanks again for posting the covers, I am sure alot of 330 owners will benefit from your efforts!
