Official 330 Sundancer Thread

My '99 330 has a pressure water hookup. It's located in the Starboard locker behind the helm seat.

That's where my 95's hook up is too. The door has a cutout in the bottom to accomodate the shore hose. On a side note, I found that I had more water pressure with my fresh water pump on than I did with the shore water hooked up. I found this unusual since the city water pressure at our hose hookups were very high. I finally replaced the regulator at the shore water hook up, and now we have better pressure with the shore water on.

Another newbie question on the dockside water. Do I just screw in the hose and turn the water on??? No valves to flip or anything else to do? I imagine I need to shut off the fresh water pump too...?

Thanks

You have to shut off the fresh water pump to use the dock side water. Other than that, you should be good to go.

As promised, these are the photos of my cup holder modification. Cost $0.30- total! I used some plastic sleeves from one of my kids plastic backyard slide, but you can find them at any hardware store. I purchased longer stainless screws. Took the old screws out- placed the sleeves and voila! now, this thing HOLDS cups, not just spills 'em. BTW- my 10 year old did ALL the labor on this job and earned himself the ability to actually DRIVE the boat for about an hour!

Masmar,
That mod looks great! Funny thing is, I saw a guy at Watch Hill a few weeks ago that did the same thing. I thought how cool, easy and inexpensive it was and actually took a few pics to post. I left on vacation and forgot about it. Thanks for the post!:smt038

Ippa2- The dockside hookup on my 1997 is the same too, starboard locker behind helm. Just be sure it's snug or it will drip on the carpet.

Now that you mention it, I think I am going to pull the carpet out of of that locker because it is going to get wet just connecting and dis connecting the water. It will never get any air, and will get moldy smelling. I already pulled the carpet out of the mid bilge where the shower sump is. Why would they carpet that anyway?

BTW, I went to Menards and got a brass quick connect for my dockside water connection. I got the one that you can disconnect without shutting the water off. It works slick, and is easy to use.

We have a '95 330 Dancer, and we do not have a sink in the cockpit above the port locker. There is a lift up door with a small storage area that has a thru hull drain in it. I have seen sinks in other Sundancers in this area, and assume this was an option when originally ordered. Has anyone installed a sink and cold water faucet in this area, and if so, any do's/don'ts/opinions/advise? Wifey really wants one here, and I can see where it would be handy.

I wanted to do same for mine as well, I do not have sink there. One of the items on my list for next year.

If you decide to add it, you could patch in to the drain already there, and run a "Tee" off the fresh water line from the bilge area, not really too hard toughest part would be to cut the top for the sink

Take pictures of you do so, and itemize the parts list, so I know what fits :)

good luck

With regards to the carpeting in the starboard aft locker and the salon floor storage, I agree why on earth would they carpet those areas??? The starboard aft locker on my boat does have a pretty mildewy smell to it. I will certainly pull up that carpet. I expect there to just be a gelcoat liner under the carpet in that locker? Not that it really matters. No one will see it.

Thanks for the EASY fix on the cup holders. My wife constantly puts her beverages there and I have to keep moving them for fear of a 6" boat wake knocking them over.

I will be making that improvement this weekend.

I was hoping to find someone who has already done the sink addition so I could get ideas on where to get the sink and cold water faucet. Just from looking on the web, it looks like it would be around $300 just for parts! I think the biggest pain would be getting the cold water line up through the bilge area.

Good question??? I was going to Lowe's on my lunch break today to try to find something to use. I was going to guess 2" maybe 2.5"?

Also what size SS screw did you use? I would imagine you wouldnt want to go too big or else it could open up into where the sliding doors is stored.

Also did you seal it with silicon or caulking?

Thanks!

This brings up another question I have for the 330 owners... What does everyone do with the storage space that is effectively under the helm seat? My 330 has the cupholder to starboard below the throttles and then there is a rather small opening to store things, but the space seems to open up under the seat. Currently I store my helm cover in that space, I just really cram it under the seat. But I've been wondering what else could functionally be stored in there besides that or a towel or something kind of manipulatable...(sp?)

I raised my helm seat several inches. It makes a great place to store life jackets.

Sea Ray must have done something radically different on that '95.

All of the 330's I have ever been aboard all had the backrest that flipped down for access to the area under the helm seat. Getting to the area from the starboard edge is a no go.

You're right about the access through the bench seat cushions on the back of the helm seat. That is where I store all my lifejackets. But I also have storage directly under the captains portion of the helm seat via access next to the captain's cupholder. Its just kind of a tight opening for access.

On a side note, I went to Lowe's on my lunch break and in the screws, nuts & bolts section I found the "nylon fasteners" section which had these perfect little nylon spacers. Each spacer was 1" so I bought a bunch with plans to glue or 5200 2 of them together and then use them as supports like the pictures below. Should work pretty well. I'll post some pics once I get it done.

How did you go about raising your helm seat???

My seat is manual. Unbolt the tracks from underneath. Depending on how your tracks are held in place, you may have to get a 90* angled screwdriver to hold the screw while unbolting it. Mine had small bolt heads so I was able to us a rachet wrench.

There was no Plastic Lumber in Lowes of HD a few years ago so I ordered some leftovers from this firm.

http://www.american-plasticlumber.com/

There is plenty of plastic lumber around now.

I have to look at the different lumber and how it's stacked to get the specifics. I know I did a lot of countersinking and multiple attachments so all the strain would not be on 6 long bolts. IIRC, I attached the seat rails to 2x4's and attached the 2x4's to 4x4's then the 4x4's to either another 2x4 or 5/4 decking. The plastic lumber runs paralled with the keel.

There is nice vinyl on the back of the helm seat. It actually looks factory. There is no vinyl on the back of the passenger seat at the helm so I left it as is.

The only down side is it is very difficult to reach the storage space beside the helm seat now because the seat cushion is right up against it.

I used plastic instead of wood to avoid rot and any "runs" on the cockpit when the wood got wet. I friend had some leftover lumber from a project and did his with wood. I think he used mahogony. He's happy with his setup as am I. It's obviously not flying bridge visibility, but it beats standing for hours particularly considering I need that hard top to be about a 10 inches taller!
