Official 290 Sundancer Thread

And another ? Has anyone taken the mid berth cushions out for cleaning? I unzipped the covers and pulled the foam out. The covers I a thinking of putting in the washer on delicate. The foam has some mold spots and they stink. Would water with some bleach do the job if I soak for a while and air dry? Any other options?
thanks

I have not take them out.
Covers use a mild detergent, no fabric softener. Bleach solution will be the ticket on the foam with a rinse afterward. Air dry both the covers and the foam in full sun.

Bill, those pumps are notorious for those floats sticking and then overflowing the box. I loved taking hot showers on my boat and that issue drove me crazy until I replaced the pump. It worked flawlessly after that.

I also don't know what the little box is that you are referring to. The only other thing in that cabinet that I recall is a CD changer. I knows those are antiques now but surely you'd recognize it!! :) Just kidding. Post a pic.

FYI for other 290 owners, I still have a custom made heavy duty winter storage coverage for sale. Its big and heavy and in pretty good shape. I also have a new and improved stainless steel and coated AC until pan that replaces the painted ones that rust that came with the boat. That rust leaves hull marks. I never installed the new one I received from the crusair manufacturer before selling the boat and forgot I had it in my basement. Make an offer on both.

First week of ownership has been great, learning a lot about the boat. Decided to get new mid berth foam cushions. Found some water had leaked through cabin top window onto fold down seat/ v-birth. I would like to replace that foam too but can't figure out if there is a way to remove it. Anyone have an answer? Guess I have to re-caulk the windows now too.
Cheers,
Bill

I just re-caulked those skylights (on my 290) about 2 weeks ago! Good luck!

Bay B's, what was your process re-caulking those skylights? Did you try a caulk remover first? What product(s) did you use? I was planning on trying a caulk remover from 3M first to dissolve and remove all the old stuff before applying new. Thanks

Hi, I was going to, however, I found that the skylights are sitting on top of spacers and foam. I wasn't sure the foam was going to withstand any solvents, so I took a different approach. I removed any "gooey" existing caulk, cleaned the remaining caulk and glass with rubbing alcohol, then applied BoatLife Life Calk Polysulfide Sealant. It's messy to say the least. But, don't be discouraged (as I was). After the sealant cured for a couple days, I simply used a razor blade to clean it up. The skylight surface will act as your guide. Just be careful not to cut into the gelcoat on the other side of the seam. I ran the blade across the seam on top of the skylight and the gelcoat carefully. Then you can scrape any excess of the glass with the blade and "roll" any excess of the gelcoat with your fingers. Hope this helps, Richard[h=1][/h]

I re-caulked my skylights also. I used a razor to scrape old caulk away. It comes off easy. I also used Boatlife Calk seems to be holding up well. Each side takes one tube of calk.

Does anyone get an orangish (rust?) discharge from their cabin fridge in the cabin bilge? The bilge has a very funky smell in it that I can't get rid of, and I think it's that orangish liquid coming from fridge. Is there a way to clean the fridge line going to that bilge?
thanks

Quite the quiet thread here lately. We have been using our new (to us) boat frequently, and getting to know it well. My biggest complaint has to be the constant splashing noise under the swim platform when at anchor. It doesn't take much wave action to get it going.

Has anyone installed a Bazooka subwoofer? I have one from my old boat I want to use, and am not sure the best location. If I put in under the helm seat, would I need to cut out a port? Head unit is shot, will be replacing that along with the factory Panasonic speakers. Lots of good information in Cincy's stereo install thread.

Cheers

I would think this is actually coming from a rusty drip pan under your AC.

I never used a bazooka sub but I swear by those JL Audio speakers and sub. For $250 that sub will thump the boat very nicely assuming you have good amps. Under the helm was a perfect location.

Thanks Cincy. The rusty drip pan makes sense since I eliminated all the other sources into that bilge. How do you access the drip pan and filter. I saw a post on this but could not quite figure out where the access point is.

To access the AC filter requires some gymnastics and skinny arms. Pull the v-berth up into the "couch" position. climb over and get behind it. Have some hold the v-berth up and away or rest it on your head (no joke) so you can open up the storage hatches underneath. Then you will see the AC unit. The filter is a thin piece of screen that slides down in a track in front of the cooling fins. Make sense? You will be able to see the pan with a flash light. getting that unit out is a whole different story. requires removal of the v-berth all together.

Have you found the secret storage compartment yet?? I had my boat a year before I did.

I think I found it, the storage hatches you speak of I have seen. I also found zippers hidden in the rubber gunwale backing in the v-berth. Thanks for the detail, maybe if I pour some rust remover like CLR into the pan and run the A/C for a while it will flush some of it out. No really thinking about removing the entire v-berth!

Oddly enough, after climbing over 2 years in a row....I lifted up and the front of the couch now comes up...easy access !!

Ordering new canvas today. Cockpit cover, and eisenglass up front, 3 window sections and sides. Anything specific to ask for? Also going to get a slant aft curtain with window to use instead of camper package, which is a nightmare taking off and putting on.

thanks!

new question -
tired of towing jet ski, i have one of those new sea doo sparks that only weights 400lbs
want to get it on swim platform
does anyone have experience with loading the rear down and getting on plane?
i've loaded the boat with people and haven't noticed any difference except the need for the trim tabs.
btw, i have the twin 5.0's and it's a 2007

i would be interested in the answer to this as well.. cant find weight limits for swim platforms anywhere including manuals. At 400lb dry weight.. figure another 100+ for fuel and weight of a small hoist, it might be allowable. I would think the boat would handle different thats for sure.
