Official 290 Sundancer Thread

Thanks! It is a lot different than the 210SEL we traded up from, but I am sure it will be a LOT more fun and a better fit for us.

Now, for a name...

Very nice looking boat!!!!

Fun is in the eye of the beholder!
You said "us" so yeah, the 290 is a big boat compared to a 210...
I'm usually out with my son and girly... there's loads of room for "us". My kid likes to leave the v-berth as a couch and make a fort up there. When he's had enough sun or we're travelling somewhere he always ends up there amidst some Lego Star Wars battle in his fort... cute!

A typical outing for us would be;
Come home on the Friday and do all the shopping, housework, water the plants, feed the lazy cat... etc.
Pack up and head out on a Saturday morning. We spend the day putting around here and there... stopping for a dip (yes the ocean) if it's hot out. We end up at a place that has fireworks every Saturday night. We anchor in the bay in front of it and have a bbq or whatever we brought for dins. Then just hang out and enjoy the show. There's usually friends there... we've had as many as 12 boats together for this. A few cocktails and some good tunes and then hit the hay. In the morning we get up... have a coffee and cook some breakfast... no hurry. Then we'd pull up anchor and head to a marina on one of the gulf islands that has a swimming pool. We try to get there for a late lunch (long trip from the anchorage). We have a swim, grab a bite, have a shower and catch a nap maybe. From there it's a liesurely trip back to the boathouse... where we all cry like babies cuz' we don't wanna' go home yet! I give the boat a quick rinse and off we go.
There's a bit of mess still but then I go to the boat during my lunch breaks to detail it. I'd do it then but my lazy cat is hungry and my grass needs cuttin'... or something like that :smt001
Cheers

"Us" is myself, the admiral, our 8yo daughter and our 5yo son. We don't regret getting the 210SEL. It is a great boat. And we didn't move up because of "twofootitis". We wanted to get into a cruiser so that we can stay out overnight/for the weekend. Also, when we are out for the day and the kid or kids get cranky (because they are tired), we'll now be able to tell them to go down in the A/C and watch a movie until they fall asleep for a nap. We think it will be better for all involved. Your weekend sounds like it is right up our alley-except in a different location. I will have to figure out how to make the "fort" and show it to the clones. They will love that. Does your son use extra blankets to add to it and make it bigger or just get on the bow side of the couch? Does he sleep in the V Berth or the Mid Berth? I'm not tall (5' 4"), so will either one be better for the adults? I just assumed the V Berth would be. Anyway, thanks for the insight. Now, I just need to get the boat delivered!!!

Nice looking boat. Welcome to the thread and your new purchase. I believe you will like this sized boat. I love my 290 (even though it is a 96) for the size for our family (8yo,13yo, me, and wife). We can create a dark theatre down below for kids to watch movies, etc. My 8yo can crawl all over the inside of boat and hide Me and the kids camp almost every Saturday night in the summer either out on the lake or at the marina. My wife has terrible vertigo so she goes to the house after a day in the sun (only 1.5miles away). The 290, to me, is a very comfortable size.

Hello all. Yesterday, after nearly a year of looking and preparing, the admiral and I traded the 2007 210SEL for a 2008 290DA and wanted to check in. I look forward to learning all about this boat as I feel I did with my 210. Anyway, hello!

Please let me know any insights about this great boat. I welcome the learning.

Here she is...

More pics to follow once she is delivered.

Nice find and congrats on your new boat. Lots of room in the 29's. I had a 27 then 32 and now a 29 and love the space. Good lick!!!

Nice... I'm excited for ya'! It'll be a summer to remember for you guys!
So the fort consists of every blanket, pillow and comforter in the boat over top of the bow side of the seat. You have to have the dsi game too of course.
We sleep wherever... I like the v-berth but prefer the mid-cabin. It's a bit more comfortable... but the limited headroom means that... lets say ones favorite sexual position may not be possible... lol
Something to consider

Oh yes. The DSi will be onboard, I'm sure.
That is a bit of a surprise that you say the mid-cabin is more comfortable. Maybe the cost of having a couch/bed combo? I'll have to figure out which is best for sleeping. Of course, I understand the eh-hem "other" limitations of the mid-cabin. I appreciate the insight.

A 4" memory foam mattress from overstock.com will do wonders for the main berth. Cut it to shape with an electric knife. Cuts like butter. Don't use a razor blade! Makes putting sheets on easier too.

Well, yesterday, after a LOT of problems, the 290 was finally delivered. I will have pictures soon! :smt038

Congrats. We are on our 290 just about every weekend. Fishing is good in the slip and nothing like a hot cup of coffee, early in the morning. Admiral lets me get up early, make coffee and start fishing. When warmer weather gets here, we will be anchoring out overnight and enjoying the night sky with a cold adult beverage.

I posted this on the older 290 thread but thought it might work here, too. Does anyone know what type of paint SeaRay used to paint the bildge areas under the back berth (and most of the rest of the "un-seen" inside). My boat is a 1995 290 Sundancer. Here's a picture of the area I'd like to touch up. It's currently a grey putty color which I would just like to match. I just don't know what type to use and I would like to re-coat while I have it all empty and before I re-install everything.

Thanks for the assistance.

Did you try calling Sea Ray?

Probably "bilge coat" google it.

So where do you guys store your grills onboard? I have a Newport (IIRC) and am wondering where to store it when not in use. Maybe build a tray above the batteries? There doesn't appear to be any other room in the engine compartment, so I am curious as to where you all store yours. Thanks.

Before mine went overboard last year, Transom Locker.

Now I am looking at the slightly larger magma, not sure if it will fit...
