Official 280 Sundancer Thread

Thanks Jason. The anchor I had was always good to me, so I want to replace it with the same. I assume it was the original one that came on the boat... Unfortunately I didn't pay much attention to its exact style, though it sure looked like a Delta. The Delta style and plow style seem to be very similar...are they basically one in the same?

Same style as Delta but different design/footprint. Both are plow anchors but what matters here is the specific design which varies per anchor. After checking part numbers, I am certain you would have had a Kodiak 25lb Plow Anchor as OEM equipment. It shows SRPN# 1733352 as the anchor for 03 and 05, which I had.

Delta is simply a brand name given to Lewmar's plow anchor. It may or may not work. Like I said before, I saw a Delta on a 2003 once but the anchor would not seat properly and completely in to the chute. This is the problem others here have encountered. So to say "it would work" would depend on who you asked.

A Kodiak should fit in perfectly. That is, unless a PO put another brand anchor on at some point and changed the anchor chute to accommodate it, but that is probably not too likely.

Thanks Jason, great info! I just found the same part number in the 2003 280 Sundancer Parts Manual. And it mentions it has the Lofrans Marlin windlass and comes with HT 1/4" chain.

No problem. If you choose to go with the Kodiak again you will have to get it from South Coast Marine Products in Clearwater, FL. They don't have a website but the number is 727-573-4821

I ended up just sending the cord back to Raymarine and they fixed it for $70. I wanted to replace the radio but at the time other stuff took precedence

Finally getting around to replacing my rode on my 280. Will 8-plait line work with the Lofrans Marlin windlass? I believe the gypsy I bought last year was #7. I suppose it is for 1/4" chain. Correct me if I'm wrong, as I'll be ordering the new rode tomorrow.

Does anyone else have a difficult time filling up with fresh water? I have a consistent problem with getting a water / air lock with my water vent hose and it prevents me from getting water into my water tank. I currently use about a 2' section of hose that has been cut off and connected to my water hose to fill it up. I push that 2' section down the water fill hose, trying to bypass any water getting in the vent hose. Long story short, the dear Mrs. was not happy when we were about 25 miles away from home and no shower for 2 days. I honestly thought the tank was full, but to no avail. Only had about 3 gallons before going empty. If I loosen the vent hose from the water tank, then it fills with no problem. What am I doing wrong?

the vent must be plugged some insects like to build nests in there. I'd take the hose off if you can and clean it out.

You likely have one of two issues here. One could be a clogged vent (look at the underside "screen"), unless your vent built into the fill plate then it's less likely (although not impossible). Another possibility is that your vent line (from the tank to the actual vent) is not a continuous "uphill climb". If there is a dip in it, then water gets trapped in there and effectively acts the same as a plugged vent. Take a look at the line along it's entire path - at least to the point where you can see it going up towards the vent. More than likely, one of these two things are causing your issue - both relatively easily addressed. If it's a dip in the line, re-route/re-support it so there are no dips.

I replaced mine with the 8 plait line and it's works well.

Has anyone had their toilet system serviced lately? Recent water leak set me back $1350.
i had no idea what parts needed replacing after 5years
duck bill valves, a filter and seals
the water line needed to be repaired as well plus a new fresh water pump
Holy crap!!

Good to hear, as I went ahead and ordered it. It was delivered already and I should be installing early next week. 150 ft with 15' chain set me back $180.00, delivered. Here's the eBay link in case anyone is looking for a similar rode. The seller also has different lengths available. Looks like good stuff to me, although I'm no expert on rode.

New this this forum, just purchase 2006 280 dancer with twin 4.3s. Has anyone experienced pulsating water pressure out of transom shower, all other facets have normal pressure?

Any advice.

Could be a crack in the fixture letting air in or clogged handle. What happens when you unscrew the handle? Same thing? I have seen these often get freeze damage as they are sometimes forgotten about when winterizing. Also, the chrome head can build up corrosion and clog.

Thanks, I will check and see if that works. Appreciated.

Has anyone replaced their engine hatch hydraulic cylinder assists? If so where did you find the replacement cylinders? I have the 2003 280DA, without the motor assist, it' manually operated.
Thanks!

Does anyone know what the size of the anchor that is standard on the 280DA is? Would it be considered a Delta style? Reason I ask is I lost mine this past weekend, right at the chain/rode splice. I'm pretty certain that last link rusted away and finally gave way. :smt009 So....I need to purchase another, and new chain also. I'm looking at this 22lb. one that I've heard a lot of good things about on this forum: http://www.marinepartdepot.com/wibeshau28.html . I also need new chain...any idea what type of chain I need to be compatible with the Lofran Marlin windlass, and I good place to purchase from?

Some new boat bling on the bow! The 22lb stainless delta style anchor I purchased from marine part depot looks great! And it fits perfectly in the anchor chute. Also added 40' of new 1/4" galvanized chain.

I guess there are advantages to losing an anchor...

Pic coming...once I figure out the right url!

My starboard engine is smoking during warmup. Definitely appears to be excess fuel during warmup causing the smoke. It is also idling ruff during warmup. Any ideas what could cause this? I replaced the fuel filter and IAC filter and that did not resolve the issue. Its a 2005 280 with twin 5.0's. After it warms up it clears up and idles fine. I'm thinking the choke mechanism is malfunctioning but not sure.

I had this same exact issue and symptoms last season on my Cobalt with a 5.7 and it turned out to be the head gasket. I sold this boat to a friend this spring when I got my current Cobalt and the boat died on his second trip out this year. When he brought it to the shop they got it running and it was smoking until it warmed up then the smoke stopped...just as you described and just as it did for me last season. They did a compression test and found poor compression all around. They replaced the head gaskets ($1000) and it has been running great since and no smoke at all.

Not sure if it's the same issue for you but might be worth looking into.
