Official 280 Sundancer Thread

I would dive the area where the collision occured and try to find the blower cover. That part is no longer stocked by Sea Ray. They will custom make you one for about $1000. You will then have to gelcoat it You might get really lucky and find one on the Internet. There was one for sale several years ago.

Welp, thought nothing of only having one set of keys to my boat. Lost them this week somehow. Would I be able to contact Sea Ray with my boat info and they would be able to provide me a key number so I can get keys cut? Twin engines and cabin door...
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Kevin

They Keys are made by Mobella. You can look on the lock on the door (inside I believe) and you'll see the (3 digit) key number on it. With that number, you can order them off ebay (sometimes) or get them from your local SR dealer. Some people have ordered key blanks from mobella and had them cut, but that requires you to have a working key.

Another thought is Flounder Pounder. If you are unable to find the right key, FP may have the entire lockset. One of the guys who stores his 250 in the same yard we do just replaced his hatch lockset from FP. I believe he said it was less than $ 100.00. Not the cheapest solution, but a solution.

If the cabin is locked and you cant find the lock number on the back, check your paperwork from Sea Ray (if it is not locked in the cabin to). I had a factory cut sheet in my owners manual bag that had engine and cabin door key numbers listed. If not, SR Customer Service should be able to tell you based off your serial number.

Hey all,

Thanks for the help, contacted SR and no luck there. Still calling around to see what I can do, really would like to just have keys cut... And yes, will have SPARE keys made for sure!

I know my local Sea Ray dealer has a complete set of Mobella cabin keys on hand for the service department. If your dealer has a set, they can go down and try each one until you find the one that fits, then you know the number. There are not as many different possible keys as you may think. You won't be able to do anything until you determine what the key number is. My dealer was selling OEM Mobella keys for like 7 or 8 dollars each.

Find another Sea Ray close by, a 280 if possible and see if you can borrow their key. Chances are its the same key. I had a buddy with a 280 and ours keys were interchangeable. Sea Ray only has about 4 different patterns.

I know on my 01, the 2 ignition keys were the same number, but the cabin door was a different number. I ordered 2 extras of each when I purchased the boat and put them in my safe at home.

If I remember correctly, I believe I saw where the dealer, or original owner had written the key numbers down in the owners manual somewhere.

I am hoping the cabin was not locked when you lost the keys?

If you are looking at borrowing someone else's key, it doesn't need to be a Sea Ray. Rinker, Tiara, Meridian and others use the same hardware lock by Mobella and the keys are often interchangeable. When I had my 280, my dockmate had a 36' Rinker and our keys work on each other's boats!

Hey Folks!

Thank you SO much for all the advice, it is very helpful! With all your advice I was able to find a nearby Marina (takes awhile to find an honest shop) who claims to be able to find a workable key and get some made. I'm not out of the woods yet, but thanks to you guys I see light at the end of the tunnel and it's not another train!

So, those of you reading my posts, GO MAKE A SPARE SET OF KEYS!!!

Hi All,
I took a trip to visit her yesterday and found that she has been hit on the rear starboard quarter buy an unknown vessel. There's minor damage to the gelcoat but the blower cover has been smashed off and lost.

I've done some searching around on the web over the weekend but haven't had much luck in finding one. Can any give me some clues where I may locate one. The part number is 1473743 I believe. It's the cover that sits over the blower vents on the rear starboard side.
Ian

Hi Ian,

There is someone on ebay that makes and sells GRP replacements (the originals are plastic) have one and the colour match and fit is not bad, I also saw on another thread that Searay will make the original to order but think they quoted $600 each.

Goodluck!

Hi,

Does anyone know what size balls are used in the cabin door runners? I know I will need to take the entire dash out so wanted to get the parts ready (in Australia and shipping can be expensive / slow), also how many are required? I checked the parts manual but it just shows the runner as a complete unit and no details on the balls used in it.

Thanks,

Anthony

Hi Anthony,

I had to replace the "trucks" on the cabin door of my 280DA....and it is possible to replace them without removing the entire dash. You just need patience. The door doesn't roll on balls...they are called trucks and they look like little toy cars with 4 wheels. There are a total of 4 trucks -- 2 for the top and 2 for the bottom.

I once had a link to the replacement parts but I deleted it since I sold my 280DA but you might get what you need from this place: http://www.boatoutfitters.com/boat-sliding-door-hardware.html?attribs=354

Good luck!

Hey guys, simple question...for those that have the low pressure fuel boost pumps installed on your 280DA, where is the boost pump and in-line fuel filter mounted for each engine? Pics would be great! I'm getting ready to mount mine this week/weekend to cure my summertime vapor lock issues and was looking for suggestions or locations where they are normally mounted by Sea Ray or what others have done. I'm considering mounting the port engine components under the generator support where the electric fuel valves are, and mounting the pump on the starboard side gunwale for the starboard engine behind and beside the waste holding tank...

Bought the 9 keys that Sea Ray makes, found the ones that worked, returned the other 8 keys... Sea Ray wanted $600 to change my locks and provide new keys... The Mafia is more honest. SMH Patience worked out for me and the advice of this group. Thanks to all!

I am looking for a sprayer for the Galley faucet. Does anyone know where the best place to find it is? (Part # 1908592 sprayer)

Thanks

I ordered a replacement sprayer for my '09, so I am not sure if the OEM will be the same. The manufacturer for the '09 280 is ITC. The part number was Model is 97800-17NI (Brushed Nickel). You can contact their customer service department at customerservice@itc-us.com or call Monday-Friday, 8-5 Eastern Time at 1.888.871.8860 to place an order. It cost around $30.

I have also used them to switch to LED lighting.

Great! thanks for the info. That's a very useful website, if I end up needing / ordering any trucks I'll report back here on the part number.

Thanks,

Hi Friends: Have 2 minor but persistent issues with my 04 280DA with T/5.0 B3s.

1 An oscillating vibration at cruise
2 The boat pulls slightly to starboard.

The gimbals have been replaced, props tuned, trim tabs fully up, and I've even gone as far as swapping drives with another B3 boat but with no improvement. All drive work done by a Merc Platinum shop. As far as the vibration, I thought about engine alignment but have told that since the drives slide out and in so cleanly during fall lay up, that can't be the problem. Would welcome input.
