Official 280 Sundancer Thread

Well, a happy and sad day today. Thanks to CSR, my 280 now has a new captain. I am so happy that it is going to a great family who I know will enjoy it as much as we did. I truly love this boat! I want to thank everyone in the group for all the wonderful information they have provided. Although I am currently Sea Ray-less, I still plan to stay a member of CSR. Now I am off to search for a cure for my n-foot-itis.
Thanks everyone,
Mike & Terri

Glad you were able to move it. Best wishes on your search for the next one.

Need to replace my oil dipsticks. The yellow tips are about to break off. I called a local dealer and they wanted 34.95 ea. Surely there is an aftermarket stick at a local parts store that will work. Has anyone replaced theirs?

What kind/brand of glue/adhesive you guys recommend to rebond the midcabin cupboard mirror ?

I hate to ask this, but does anyone have any experience with repairing or replacing the holding tank in the 280? I'm seeing some seepage around the base, and I'm afraid it's going to have to be removed for inspection. Can this tank be removed with the 8.1L engine in place? Any other problems associated with it's removal. This will be a "crappy" job for sure, and I'm not 100 percent sure I even want to mess with it!

UPDATE: Just finished the repair job. Heads up to all that own the Dometic 28 gal. HTS model holding tank. They put a threaded insert (not stainless steel) in each of the 4 corners at the bottom of the tank. If you have a leak, it may be from a rusting fitting. Checking other threads, this is a known problem. The company offers a $300.00 fix, but I chose to do my own plastic welding job, and it's bone dry now. Used the Harbor Freight hot air welder and HDPE welding rods, bought at Grainger. It was a messy job, but won't happen again. I did all four fittings, so no chance of future leaks.

GARMIN GPS on my 280. i have a Garmin 5208 that is giving me trouble and thinking about replacing. Garmin suggested a GPSMAP 7610 or 7608.
i have a sounder and XM on the 5208 and as i understand it I will have to replace everything and cables to go to the 7610/7608. That means if correct i could go to anything, but i do want the sounder and XM feature. i dont have radar .
On the other hand I hate to get into changing out all the senders and cables. an alternative is Garmin will re build the 5208.
whats your guys thoughts and opinions? any one gone from a 5208 to something else or have similar experience
thanks
Im ready for the season!!!
Dave

Could Someone tell me what size the outside sink is? My boat never came with the chrome cap on the end of the spout. Currently there are just threads there... I'm trying to find a female aerator that would fit on those threads so it looks complete.

V-berth closet shelves??? Weekend project to finally install some shelving in the v-berth closet, the undersink cabinet, and the TV cubby. Has anyone added shelves here before? Templates? Thanks.

Anchor line replacement. Sorry if this has been covered before but my search did not help. While retrieving the anchor this weekend, the line came in fine but when it got to the space to the chain, it would slip. It appears to be a little worn, but not real bad. Is that indicating its time to replace? If so, does anyone have any recommendations? Maybe a west marine part number?
thanks
mike

Hi Mike
Wondering if you ever received a response to your anchor line replacement question. The line for my '06 280SD looks a bit old and it's not that long. I'm looking for info on the best type and size choice and how much line I can fit without causing issues.
Thanks,
Steve

I had a similar problem
i replaced the anchor line and chain but ultimately changed the gipsy which solved the problem
as the gipsy wore the chain also slipped

I purchased the gipsy thru Imtra, 508-995-7000. Their customer care people are very helpful.
Good luck

Yes, replacing the gypsy from IMTRA pretty much solved my problem also. That said, I still hold some tension on the spring loaded finger with the side of my foot, when it hits the transition from rope to chain while retrieving the anchor. That's the only point I get some slippage with the new gypsy.

Before replacing the gypsy or the the line try cutting off the old splice and resplicing. This may fix your problem at no cost and minimal time.

Well, I went down to the boat this morning thinking I was going to fix my PEX water hose fitting by replacing the leaking ones with the Shark bite fittings. .... I found more leaks the water heater was leaking. Took me about 6 hours to get that sucker out. #€£¥^£€¥+^#%. I would like to meet the person who designed the rear attachment. Why could they not figure out how to place a bracket for the rear mount to slide under. That way it would slide forward after removing the 2 screws holding the front. Well I got it out. Now it's time to start shopping for a replacement.

I would like to remove the upholstery piece that is the backrest for the stern seat that faces forward. I think it is pretty easy as my mechanic has done it, but don't want to bug him about this.

Does anyone know how?

Thanks, Mark
