Official 280 Sundancer Thread

how would we know what 22p version they are? what a pain. There are other numbers stamped on the propset, not sure what ones you are referring to.

Your signature and boat details does not have year, model or engine package listed so we don't know what you are referring to other than you have a Bravo 3 drive and presumably a 280 Sundancer. These details help people here respond to your requests for information. The responses you get will be more plentiful and specific if you take a few minutes and fill them out.

This link (that I posted in Post #4139 of this same thread) has the information you are looking for regarding prop and drive information for 2003 Model Year Sea Ray boats. Other years are available on their website.

Sorry I figured that was clear that I have a 280 DA as i was posting in this thread.. it is a 496 with Bravo 3 2.20 ratio. I currently have 20P propset, and my numbers arent where they should be for rpm and speed. That link you posted didnt work. I already contacted Searay they werent any help, could only tell me the serial numbers of drive and not what prop it had.

From the link jason78 posted, note the difference in drive ratio along with prop size.

2003 280DA 496 MAG( 375 PHP )
STERN DRIVES Bravo 3, 2.00:1
PROP, 14.25"X 22" CUP BR3 R13602474800
PROP, 15.75"X 22" CUP BR3 L1360239

I checked other literature I've saved from 2004 and it also matches with jason78's link.

Well That dosnt help as I have a 2.20, although the other guy who posted said he had a 2.20 and 22P. The question is thats a big difference in diameter for props.. 14.25" vs 15.75" Was one set for high elevation from sea level Im guessing ?

That is the set itself...one of each on your B3 drive. Maybe I missed it but I didn't see where anyone said they had a 2.20 ratio like you have. What WOT rpm and speed do you get? Did you buy it used...do you know it's history, were it came from or whether or not it had any major drive work or replacement?

New to sea ray. I have been searching for a sun pad for a 2006 280 sundancer bow. Have searched internet and can not find any.

This was not an available factory option for this generation 280DA. You would need to check with your local canvas/upholstery shop and have one made custom. As an alternative you can check out the West Marine "Go Anywhere" seats. I have two of them and other than finding a place to store them, they work quite well.

Hello everyone.

I'm not sure if we've discussed this before. If we have, pls direct me to the posts. But my genset would start, run for a couple of minutes, then stop. Sometimes it runs 5-10 mins, other times runs shorter.

I haven't been out that often and don't know where to start debugging so I don't have any other information to share. Is there any way to start it at home at all? By connecting to water source somehow maybe?

It has about 89 hrs, looks new.

Thank you.

What generator do you have? Kohler 5E?

I think so

Good morning.

I was checking out the fresh water flush kit that hooked on top of a seacock but not sure if this is the way to go for my twin set up. I will be doing lots of salt water boating since marinas are only 15-30 mins from my house.

Closed cooling is probably best, but I'm not sure if I'm ready to spend $2000-$2500 or more just on materials alone for this boat. (I was thinking of either getting a newer 280, or the next size up to max utilize my trailering setup, in the next year or so. Yep, 2-footitis is itching in me already. Been eyeing at 2007-2010 310 but not sure if trailering it is practical or not. Can't/won't slip I don't think)

Lots of uncertainty, as always. Hehehe. That's when I turn to you guys. Pls advice.

Thank you

You may have a fuel starvation issue which is shutting down the generator after it drains all the fuel from the carberator bowl... Or more likely sounds like you may have some air in the closed cooling system. There are lots of reports on here where someone has an air bubble in the closed portion of the cooling system and that prevents the anti freeze / coolant from cycling through the heat exchanger to be cooled by the raw water side of the system. Once the coolant gets too hot, the generator shuts itself down.

Have you checked the temp of the generator with a IR gun when it shuts down?

No I haven't checked the temp. How hot is normal?

How do we know if there's air bubble or not?

There's a T branch out what seem like an inlet for garden water hose hook up. I think I can hook the water up, shut off the seacock and start the genset at home. Picture included.

How you read the meter? Is it 893 or 89.3 according to this picture?

What's some of the maintenance work I can perform myself and how often?

Thanks.

Nhi

The reading is 89.3 hours. These Kohler Generators like to be run or they get to be problematic. This is extremely low hours for a 12 year old genny. Most recommend running it under load at least monthly.

On to the problem, yes it sounds like vapor lock to me too. I had a thread that showed exactly how to bleed the system with pictures but the pictures have been removed for some reason so it is now pretty much a useless thread. This other thread may help you understand the problem and how to bleed the air from the cooling system. http://my.boatus.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=65798

Standard maintenance is changing the impeller and oil change at least yearly. Also flush the coolant every 5 years I believe. I will look for the service manual unless someone else posts it sooner.

Does anyone with a 2005 280 know what type of Clarion head unit is in our boat? It's a CMD something.

I think that's what I have as well. I want to hook up the MF1 wireless remote but Clarion is telling me it can't be doen on this model.

I am in the process of purchasing a 206 280 sundancer 496 b3, I have it listed on my profile but do not have it yet. My question is do you like the 496 set up? I have read so many posts arguing in both directions. I would like to hear from some one with 496 b3 knowledge. I boat at The Lake Of The Ozarks. It get pretty rough for a lake do to big boat traffic.

i currently have a Ultra Custom 28 stealth with a 496 HO. It only ways 5600 pounds loaded. I get around OK with it but want to change to cruiser. This sight has been very helpful in my decision of the 280 sundancer but has me confused on power plant.

I am supposed to look at the boat in one week and have a hold on it but not sure if I am making right decision on on single engine. I know that I am going to hear the slow speed monuvering is tougher but being a long time boater I have no problems with single with X drives and b3 should be a better set up.

Hi everyone! We're new here - just purchased a new 2011 280 Sea Ray Sundancer on Friday. Long wait before we're able to get it in the water in the spring. I have two questions - we're looking for a ladder to use off the front of the bow to the beach. Any recommendations? We're looking to not spend a whole lot for this coming summer, but would like something convenient.

Next, we're only used to using a porta potty, so with the different potty set-up, do I need to put any chemicals in the holding tank? If so, what and what type of toilet paper should we use?

Thank you!

Dometic makes a holding tank treatment to reduce smell but you won't need it if you pump out regularly. There is a vent on the holding tank that has a charcoal filter. You may need to change it every few years. If you overflow the holding tank the filter will get stinky. Make it a habit to pump out every time you get fuel and you should be ok.
