Official 280 Sundancer Thread

Moving on, noticed some water intrusion in the mid berth, water stains mostley against the aft wall, more towards starboard. Are the port cushion bolts, still suspect on my year model? Would that make 4 possible points of entry?

There are a few posts and good solutions on this topic earlier in this thread. Here is a copy-and-paste of an earlier post I made on the subject (post #2182...there are a number of other related posts around there as well...):

-------------------
I had trouble with water in the mid-berth earlier this year as well. It took a while to figure out where it was coming from, but I did find it. There was a primary and a secondary site, both related to the "trough" on the inside of the windshield. In general, there is a problem with the 280DA design behind the windshield that causes water to collect and then run down into the cockpit. On the port side, it makes its way along the windshield until it runs down in the area of the lounge. On the starboard side, it will run down the helm near the throttle, ending up at your feet.

In my case, there was a leak in the sealant between the helm module and the top of the gunwale on the starboard side. Water was going through this opening, down the inside of the wall behind the helm, and then through an opening where all the wiring harnesses go. From there it continued down until it reached the floor (the base of the mid-berth) and then ran all along the back firewall. A similar thing would happen on the port side, except it would run behind the lounge cushion and occasionally find an opening to below.

How does one tell, what the level in the fresh water tank is?

The only way to know without installing a sensor is to peel back the insulation and look at the level. We have fresh water at our dock so I drain the tank weekly and top it off before each trip.

I recall someone in the thread installed a sensor.

When the water starts spitting and sputtering, you are empty! After I get some of this work out of my shop my boat comes in for dinette area upgrade and fresh tank monitor/ and add an additional tank for next years Bahamas trips!

I would like to see your list! Did you ever mount your grill?

Donnie,
I posted the LED retrofit / replacement write up in the 300DA Questions thread since it's for that model, but here's a link to it (if I figure this out right).

I'm not sure if you have the Perko fittings in the arch/cockpit or a mix of some of the Attwood fixtures that have the bayonet style base. Hopefully this write up helps. Either way, the superbrightled folks were really flexible with me, and just asked that I not order a ton of bulbs in every variation. They requested you order a few of the dfferent styles and variants, then decide how you want to proceed and order the required quantities. I also made an effort to keep track of which bulb came out of which mylar packet so as to make it easier for them to check back in when I returned them.

The grill... Still working that one... I sent you a PM with more on that. I will have a functioning grill with top notch mounting in the bilge for storage this season, mark my words!

Anybody replaced one of the plastic handles used to operate the sunshade/screen for the front hatch? Where can I get one and then how do I replace it?

A very nice young lady named Melissa helped me out.

How hard was it to remove the trim work of the unit to replace the broken handle?

That I won't know for sure until the spring. The part arrived after the boat had been hauled-out, winterized, and shrink-wrapped. I took a look at the installation manual on the OceanAir website though. It looks pretty straightforward.

Going to install a stereo amp that requires 4 ga. pos. and neg. Can anyone, tell me , or direct me to a thread that would best explain, tha source of each? Thanks

Want to hook my Raydome to my fwd acc. switch with its 15 amp output. I can hear a relay clicking in the fwd. EIM. Wanted to know if anyone has had the EIM opened up and knows which wire exits the relay?

There is a wiring diagram in the back of the Sea Ray manual that has this information. The "extra" circuits are noted on the diagram. They are taped off and the end of the wire is normally only a few inches from the massive plug that plugs in to the EIM. I have not tried to get any of the spares from the forward EIM but I imangine you would need to remove the EIM to access the harness in that location. I know others have done this with the Forward EIM though, maybe one will speak up. I used a circuit on the AFT EIM but the harness is easily accessable there.

Thank you Jason. The few inches was the clue to the puzzle. I was looking too far downstream. My manual said it was coiled and teminated.

Anyone have a link to Searay boat part #'s not Mercruiser. Thanks. My local dealer has such a bad attitude, I hate asking him anything.

For Sea Ray parts use the parts manual! In case you didn't get one when you bought your boat, you can download the manual in PDF format from the Sea Ray site.

Are you talking about the dealer in Hyannis? I use the guys in Medford and they have always been helpful.
