Official 280 Sundancer Thread

New this year with a 2008 with twin 4.3 mercs and Alpha 1 drives. Don't know about engine flushing. Should I be flushing with fresh water while in dock? Is it difficult to hook up the flushing kits?

Flushing is a good thing to do...*if* you can do it of course. While in the water at a dock? Probably impossible.
For the flushing "kit", all you need are the flush muffs that cover the intake ports on the lower unit's. You hook the muff to a garden hose, turn the water on, then fire the engines up and let them run for a couple of minutes.

So...for you, that is probably impossible!

So has anyone come up with the answer to the "correct" P.S.I. reading on the Smart Craft gauges while flushing? I let mine run til it got to operating temp and and it actually fell to .5 at idle:huh:

pictures will absolutely be coming... i want get her new name on her first!! speaking of... does anyone know someone who does nice custom graphics? i want something that is not cheesy looking. i have a design sketched out already, i just need that artists touch to it. after all she is my "dream girl"!!

No there's not two...that's MY boat...lol I bought it from these people! I have been waiting three months for dinette and v-berth tables, I see there was a dinette at the time of the video but looks damaged! I'm sure glad I didn't have to pay what they were asking back then:smt038

yea i knew that the one in the video was yours when you posted that picture. mine will be renamed to "dream girl"... she goes by another name right now. i am headed out tomorrow to look at marinas to store her. cant wait for spring!!!

Well lucky for you I want a new name...lol It would be kinda awkward having two 280's going by the name "dream girl"!! I still haven't found the right name. That's almost as hard as naming my business...lol

When did you see that video for the first time? I never saw it! I actually found the boat on Craigslist after they had it for more than 6 mos and really wanted to get their cash out of it. Seems they bought it at a auction and thought they were going to move it! I saw the price was 79K with no trailer and started dropping!! I think they need the cash flow to pay floor plan on their new boats...lucky for me:smt038:smt038 It is in excellent shape...now... and they will probably be glad when I don't come back...lol

BTW: My wife wasn't too crazy sun bathing in the back with the words "dream girl" on the back of the boat...I sensed a little jealousy...lol

Sorry guys, I did a search but couldnt find what I was looking for.

My microwave is just a glorified clock now so I want to replace it.
My questions are how easy and what is involved in removing it, what power (wattage) are they and would there be any issue in fitting a normal small domestic one in its place?

Cheers

KG,

Is your boat on 110 VAC, or 220? Its been so long since I was down your way, I can't remember if you guys are a 220, or 110 country.

On the US boats, the microwave is just a mini domestic microwave. Not knowing 220 appliances I can't really say much other than it would follow that a 220 version would be the same. The big thing would be if you can get a microwave that physically will fit. Here this size microwave is aimed at college students (actually their parents) as a dorm room accessory.

Hi Henry,

Thanks

We are 220 down here.
Have taken it out. It makes all the right noises, the clock/timer works even the plate turns but it doesn't actually 'do' anyhting in the way of heat or cook something.
I have had a brief search for a new one but they all seem a little large for the hole it should fit in. I think I'll see if it can be repaired.

Cheers

Graham

All repaired and back in. Some gizmo was replaced for $70 and all was good. It cooked us lunch out on the Harbour today. We are having a fantastic settled summer so far this year, the hours are racking up on the boat.
I treated her to a burgee pole today in anticipation of a CSR burgee arriving soon, convinced the supplier to fold it up and pop it in a letter instead of a $40+ postage via UPS!!

Hi Guys,
I used to "belong to" this thread but I just bought a 2004 340da and will be moving over to that thread next week!
Like many, if not all of you, I replaced my Toshiba 8/9" TV (in my case with a Jensen 15" marine tv) and the only two things I have left after I trade in my 280 are the tv and the original round frisbee cockpit table (I had a nice teak table made...shoulda kept it...)
Question: is there any market for these tvs? Did anyone bother to sell them on ebay? I'm not sure if there's any "demand" for them or are they just good for the proverbial boat anchor?
Oh, and I do have the round table for sale if anyone needs one.

Buying new anchor chain this week.
She currently has a pitiful 10mtrs of close link 8mm with ?? of rode spliced on the end.
I intend to buy at least 35mts more chain.

My questions are.

Should I upgrade to 10mm? The windlass will take 8 or 10mm.

If I stayed with 8mm, is there any reason I can't 'tag' the original 10mtrs on the end before the rode? Its in good condition. Having 45 mtrs of chain does appeal!

Does the TV have a digital tuner? If it does, I would think there is a market. If not, probably not much demand for it.
(I'm pretty new to the 280 scene, so I don't know much about the TV's yet)

Nah, it's an old-fashioned CRT with a VHS player built-in (at least in mine!)! Might make a great emergency anchor, but that's about it.

I'm considering putting a built-in coffee pot in it's place this spring/summer...anyone ever done that?

I know this has nothing to do with your topic but I am shopping for a 280 & was wondering what kind of fuel consumption you at cruise & what speed is that?
