Anybody know how to remove the glass from the light fixture above the stove in the galley?

Thanks,

Kevin

Ah, I need to get the glass down to change the bulb, thanks again!

If I remember, the large ring unscrews. Rotate it counterclockwise.

Thanks Eddie.

I replaced my radar arch lights with a pair of LED lights... White, red, and blue in one light, 4 settings. Hit the arch pad light once and the white comes on slow. Hit the pad switch to stop at the desired brightness and hit pad again within 2 seconds and the white LED stays at that desired brightness. Hit the pad again and the red turns on, to turn red off, hit the pad again. Then hit the pad again for blue... Leave it alone for over 2 seconds and the light resets and when turned on again the white is the first light to come on. Just ordered 2 more lights to replace the cockpit lights. Easy install, connect hot n ground wires, slide fixture in hole and springs on fixture keep light in place. BAM

As for the speedometer, I'd just not worry about it and replace the gauge with something else. They are horribly unreliable on any boat and have little value. A gps is MUCH better and works.

The only time it would be useful is if your in one heck of a current.

threejays,

I purchased the lights at West Marine as they are a qualified distributer of Lumitec products. The part number from West Marine is 14714406. They are $90+ per light, but worth every penny. Anybody can install this light in minutes... You can get this LED light to suit all your needs or wants. You can get different colors, more colors, less colors, different trim rings, stainless steel, white, etc... I didn't choose the stainless steel trim due to maintenance issues and wanted lights to just blend in with the color of the cockpit...

Hi Henry,

How is the vent cover attached?

Thanks,
Charles

Charles,

It is just glued along the perimeter. When I re-did mine I glued around the leading and trailing curves, and a couple of 2-3" beads across the top. I also used caulk on the joint after the adhesive had set so that rain water would not run down into the blower openings.

Thanks Kevin, I'm looking to do the same to my 280 once I get her home this week. One other question I have for you is getting on plane. I too have twin 4,3L MPI's no Gen. Do I need to trim her to get on plane or leave the trim alone ? My 290 with 5.7's I leave trim alone and only use it if needed.

threejays, I never use tabs to get on plane. I usually adjust the people towards the helm but this season I'm going to see if tabs will do the trick...

Threejays,

I'd be surprised if you would have to use trim to get on a plane, especially without the extra weight of a benny.

However, seems like this boat need a small bit of tilt to trim out nicely once on plane. This is typically of all IOs I've owned over the years. Some take a bit more or less.

Anyone have recommendations on how to best mount a SUP (Stand Up Paddle Board) somewhere on the rails (or otherwise) so that its out of the way when tying up to other boats on both sides? I don't want it on the swim platform as that will be used....

Hello
Im a Newbie and just bought a 2003 280 sundancer!!! and excited to pick it up next week, the boat was sitting for a couple years and owners lost keys so the broker pulled it out and serviced outdrives, replaced bellows, new batteries, ignition, bottom paint, engines have 92 hours, one tach read slightly higher than the other. It doesnt have smart gages, just standard, engine lid shocks needs replacing I have mechanical inspection tomorrow, have to order some canvas for the sunshade from great lakes canvas? boat seems to start and run fine and i will go through and tune up/replace filters etc. any other input from seasoned 280 owners would be appreciated ,im sure there will be more questions to follow. :smt024 thanks Roy

trdehmer,
I put the paddle boards in on of two places.
1st spot: I made holders for the rails out of 1 inch PVC schedule 80. But there are rail holders that you can buy also. Its usually fine when its tied up to boats.
2nd spot: when I'm hanging out and using the paddle boards I use bungie cords to hook it off the swim platform. so the bungie cord is hooked to the front of the paddle board and hooked to the towable hook on the back of the boat.

Thank you Mr. Boyd!!

What is your opinion on best way to get the vent covers off?

Also, can the covers be painted if they have turned yellow?

Thanks again.

Love this site - very helpful for the new boater!!

Don't suppose you have a photo of the holders you made? And one when the board is mounted on the rails of the boat?

The SUPRAX appears to be the best option I've seen. $180 shipped on EBAY....

Well, now that I know how to take ring off (thanks to Eddie), does anyone have a replacement for the 110v bulb, it seems to be a different size screw-in base?
