Official 280 Sundancer Thread

I haven't had that problem, but the first thing I would check are the connections. Make sure they are all tight and no corrosion at both ends.

Can anyone tell me if a 280 with a single in it has 'bow steer' like the 240 and 260? I know the twin power doesn't do that... does it?
Thanks :)

I only have experience with an old 230 and my previous 250 which both tended to wander. The 280 with a single is far more cooperative and predictable. The bow wander issue seemed to be more a function of Stern push from the single screw (prop wash) where some of the force/thrust of the prop was lost laterally cuasing the stern to push a bit and a bit of ovet-steer on my part. With the BIII I've not notices it at all. The handling characteristics are fantastic even with my single engine. I love this boat and one engine works fine for my river application.

Not having 240/260 experience, I can't really talk about differences. But I can say the 280 with the 496/BIII pretty much goes straight in the direction that it is pointed. I will also add the 280 / BIII backs up the straightest of any boat I have ever operated. The only thing I can attribute to that is the counter-rotating props on the drive.

I moved from an '06 240 to a '04 280 with twins. There is no comparison. The 240 was a constant struggle to keep balanced when there was wind or passengers moving around. The only time I use my tabs on the 280 is if I want to get on plane fast otherwise I don't touch them.

Hole saw on my fiberglass scares the crap out of me:wow: What size holder (3/4" of 1 1/4"), stainless pole? what type of clips? 30" flag?.. I really want to do this right so I'm sorry if I'm a pain with the questions. Thanks

I encourage you not to use a hole saw. Their cut isw not as clean as I like. When I've drilled into my boat I've used a Forstner bit. Here's a picture of the bit and hole it made when I installed my transducer.

I used holes saws for the heater vents I installed, because a Forstner bit in 3" and 4" sizes I'm not sure is even made but it would be cost prohibitive.

Anyone change out the original tv/DVD player on their 280? I am thinking of moving to 15 or 19 inch TV and have been trying to think of different install options and how it will look. Any pictures appreciated.

I agree with you on the forstner bits. I do a lot of woodworking and that all I use fro holes in the range of about 1/4" to 1"

Here's the closest you will come to a forstner bit in large sizes. Not really a forstner bit but not a hole saw either, kind of a cross between the two.

Isn't that a tow ring under the power cord hole? If not, run a line between the cleats with a loop in the center. The 290 has one on the lip of the swim platform.

hey what are you guys with twin 4.3s getting for fuel burn?
What RPM's? What cruising speed?

30 mph, around 3200 rpm trimmed out, 1.5 mpg. Sorry don't pay any attention to the gph.
