Official 240 Sundancer Thread

I get no beep when I turn the key. Maybe I am mistaking the terminology, buzzer, beep, alarm.

I just know in my old boat I would turn the key and I would get a beep until the oil pressure came up and it would go off. I think this is a safety beep/alarm so I would like to get it fixed. Just not sure where to look.

Thanks,

I went up to the boat today to try and figure this out. I suspect I have found the problem. At some point previously, either for storage or transport the camper assm's were removed and replaced flipped front to rear. I found the straps on the rear camper assembly instead of the front. Also the flipped poles matched the illustration. I'll have help tomorrow and will change them to the correct set up.

thanks all who replied.

Ya, no problem islandhopper00. I appreciate all the help and the wealth of knowledge from this forum.

I went to the boat the other day, mine has a split level dash with gages on sort of 2 separate panels. I removed the top panel with all of the gauges, about 8 screws and tucked in behind there I found the buzzer. I unplugged it and put my volt meter on ohms across the wires and then turned on the key. I did get a signal so I am pretty sure its just the buzzer that has died. I read on some other forums that they sell these buzzers at radio shack so I am going to drop by there and pick one up. They are like 7 bucks, so worth a shot as the original quick silver kit is like $30USD on ebay.

Anyway thanks again,

:)

Hello,
Just wanted to say hi i think i have been through the entire 165 pages of posts. I finally got a 2003 240 for myself! We looked for over a year, I have tons of questions but have also learned allot about the boat already.

So, it's getting about time to be beautiful camping weather in Arizona and I have a question about the camping top for my 1998 240DA. Can someone please tell me the sequence that you take to put the camper top on? Like for instance, do you raise or lower the back poles or the front poles? I tried this last year and after almost ripping the canvass due to everything being too tight, I gave up. I do not have a manual for it so I have to just take a shot in the dark. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Cheers!

Hello! New to the site and new to this boat we just purchased a 2000 Sea Ray 240 Sundancer with 15 hours on the brand new MercCruiser engine and only 188 hours on the boat itself. It sat on a trailer most of it's life but was lovingly cared for for the most part. We look forward to many fun times on the boat and some Miami to Bahama trips if the boat is capable of that.

On my 250 all the poles are in the lower position.

Folks... I have a 2007 240 Dancer that I bought new. I know, leave me alone about buying new boats. However I am having problems with the water heater and am looking for a short term fix. The "radiator" hoses running from the engine to the water heater and back serve to heat the "fresh" water while under way. I have never used the water for potable water on the boat, but the in connection to the water heater has corroded to the point that it broke off and when the boat is under power the water pumps from the engine into the bilge. Spoke to a mechanic at MM at he said a short term fix would be to take the input and output hoses and couple them so that the water circulates... until I replace whatever is wrong with the heater. Thoughts?

Sounds like what I would do... can't see any problem with doing that at all

Ankrummg, I had the same problem with my 2008. I was replacing all the hose on the engine and just removed the heater hoses to clean up the engine room and plugged the ports. Connecting them together as suggested would also work. Now we just don't have hot water unless we are plugged in to shore power.

was the hot water from the engine to the heater a default installation on the 240 ? i have the hoses plugged - so not connected and i do not see where they should plug into the water heater. of course Hot water while underway would be a nice thing !

OK. Quick question. I have a 2000 240 with the 5.0 Efi. I am doing my winterization and changed the engine oil by using the drain hose that comes out the drain plug hole. How much oil does it take to re-fill the engine. I have 5 quarts in it but I can't tell where it is on the stick, it is to clean. I called a couple different sea Ray dealers and they all say at max 5 quarts. I am just not sure what I am seeing on the stick really my oil level. Anybody with the same engine care to comment on how many quarts it takes to fill theirs?

Circulating engine water through the HWH coils is a pretty standard feature. Should be two nipples on the front of the HWH along with the blue-cold in and red-hot out. Mine plugged and broke off so my hoses are plugged as well.

This same thing just happened to us on our way back from Fernandina Beach. The black hose connection coming from the engine to the water heater leaked water all into the bilge and the pump must have stopped working and the engine got so wet it was sputtering when trying to give more throttle. I hand bailed to get the water below the engine and get it restarted but now have to replace the bilge pump and the water heater as the boat sits on my trailer. Any recommendations for a great bilge pump and water heater replacement?
