Official 240 Sundancer Thread

All - I have a 2008 240 Sundancer with a unique problem. The stereo (Clarion CMD5) will gradually fade out - no power or function from the head unit or remote on the helm. After several days, it will magically come back on. Did this three times this season and of course the dealership is scratching their collective heads. And of course it is presently working, so they can't track the electrical issue. This sounds like a voltage problem to me, but not sure where. Maybe the panel - a bad switch maybe? The head unit was bench tested and came out fine. Anyone else have this experience?

I have a 2007 and the Clarion is a little screwy as well... My MP3 input jack doesn't work right. What I did because I had some similar problems is take the unit out , and check all the wires. Also go to the Clarion site, there is a bulletin posted about some issues with the wiring...

Just want to say hello and let everyone know that in Wilmington North Carolina, I was on the boat all weekend.

Anyone jealous?

Hey Mike.....get fffffff......j/k
Good for you,it was 50 here today, won't be long.

Hi all-

First post after lurking a while, TONS of great info in here - I think I'm narrowing in on a 2000/1ish 240DA for my first boat. Seems like there may be some thought that the 5.0L is a bit underpowered and I should look for one of the larger engines if possible. Question - does the B3 on a 5.0L work efficient enough to make that a significant boost over a B2? Or should I be looking for something w/a 5.7? Would you consider a 5.OL a dealbreaker knowing what you know now?

Thanks!

I have a 2002 5.0 EFI (Throttle body) with 240hp and a B3 outdrive. Power is fine and I have topped out at 36mph. Only times it feels underpowered to me is if I have a few people on board. I am doing a full tune up this spring so hoping for a bit more power.

Nick92675, I have an 07 240 with the 5.0 bravo III outdrive. I have had 4 adults and 4 children on my boat, and she gets on plane fine. Would a 5.7 get her on plane faster, yes, but the 5.0 does just fine for my needs. If I had the choice with my boat in a 5.0 and a 5.7 with all of the exact options, I would have gone with the 5.7, but I found a great boat at a great price with a 5.0L with a genny and I could not turn it down. As for everything in life the answer is... it depends...

Hello! New to this forum and wanted to say thanks in advance to the helpful comments.
Currently in the market for a 03-04, 240 Sundancer and was wondering if anyone could help me out with pointers specific to this model.

Very happy to see your information on the 240 with the 5.0L MPI. I just purchased a used 2006 Sundancer with the 5.0 and was wondering if I made a mistake by not finding the 5.7L. Like you I think I got a great deal so your info on performance made me feel even better about the purchase. Can't wait to get the boat in the water this spring.....

Bad switchpad, ECM. Wire in another switch?

Hi guys-
I posted a general maintenance question in the electrical forums, but just wanted to see if anyone else had a solution to this problem.

Here's the link:

http://clubsearay.com/forum/showthread.php?t=40623

Basically, the switchpad and/or EIM is faulty and I can't find replacements (nor do I wish to shell out bucks to replace them) just so my freshwater system can operate showers, head, etc.

Anyone wire in a switch to bypass the digital switchpad at the helm? Or maybe wire in to the accessory switch?

Thanks for the help!

2007 240DA Transom Lid Dimensions

Can anyone give me the dimension of the transom lid? I am looking into designing a name for our 2007 240DA but I'm not sure how much area is available between the lid handle and the bottom of the lid. The boat is in storage right now and inaccessible so any help would be appreciated!!

Thanks

Jim

Re: Bad switchpad, ECM. Wire in another switch?

Hey Dan, I noticed your in Pensacola. Do you have a slip there or know/recommend a good one. I have been thinking about wintering my boat down there when it's not summer here in Minnesota.

I keep my boat trailered in a spot with power and water onboard Naval Air Station Pensacola. There are a ton of marinas around with both indoor and outdoor storage. My friends use Holiday Harbor Marina as the family who owns it are good people. You may want to check them out.

Hi everyone,

I can see that I am not the only one who is having difficulty leveling out the boat when on plane. My 2007 240 Sundancer lists steeply to starboard and even after installing the bennett automatic trim tabs I anm struggling to keep it level when there are more the a couple of people on the boat. Is this a common problem with tis model ie; the beam is not as wide as the larger boats? Thx/Matt

Are you trimming the drive up as you are coming up on plane? This is a common problem those with newer 240DA & 260DAs have discussed.

No...i am putting the tabs right down before powering up to plane. Should I be doing this in stages...Thx

You should leave the tabs up, then as you're getting up on plan start to trim the drive up. The 1st time I took my 240 out I thought the boat was going to roll over. no problem once I learned about trimming the drive from CSR.

Jack...thanks for the advice, I also thought the boat was going to roll. I had installed Auto trim tabs however when i engage them they dont seem to be doing the kind of correctiosn that i had hoped. I have found though that trying to get up on plane with the tabs up is laborious on the engine and takes longer. What is the CSR?

Try the tabs up then start to trim the drill while getting up on plan, I have no problem.

CSR = Club Sea Ray:grin:
