Official 240 Sundancer Thread

I want to install an extended swim platform. I have researched a few companies. Each company platform size and price varies. I would like to go as big as possible. My concern is will it effect performance of the boat? Has anyone with an 06 or 07 installed a platform? What size is it and how has it effected the boat? I know that Swim Platforms Inc will come recommended but their platform is too small in my opinion especially for the price? It is only 18" deep. I would like to be at least 25"-30" deep.

I looked into getting one from Swim Platforms Inc for my 2008,I think it should be the same as yours. The only reason I haven't done it yet is because that would up my slip fee $430 extra a year.

Here is part of an email they sent me:

The platform is tapered inward at the aft corners, this
allows for easier maneuvering around docking areas and other boats.
The side flanges are contoured to fit your hull, offering a nice look.

Our 240 Sundancer platform measures 87" x 25" and is constructed of fiberglass with a
gel coat finish, similar to your boat construction.
For safety, the top surface has a diamond pattern non skid, molded into the gel coat.

A heavy rubber molding, trims the bottom edge, for a nice look.
This helps to ease those boating 'bumps' too.

Your current ladder will be relocated to the new platform that can be used on either side
of the platform.

We install an oval port in the platform, allowing air and water pressure to transfer thru.
The oval port can also be used as a grab handle while using the boarding ladder.
This eliminates the need for a grab handle, a possible tripping hazard.

We supply 2 stainless steel down rod supports for the aft end of the platform for added stability.
The underside of the platform has an easy to keep clean, gel coated surface.

You can fit three or four people on the platform.
We say 600 pounds….very conservatively.

As long as the platform is properly installed, your warranty will remain good.

We supply stainless steel mounting hardware and installation guidelines.
The installation can be done in under half a day with a couple people.
You'll need to supply a tube of caulking. We recommend using 3m 4200 " fast cure", if launching the next day.

Anyone have issues with their Aux input on the Clarion radio? Mine has the separate aux connection from the radio in the wall. When I plug my ipod in the voice is all drowned out and just the music plays... I tried messing with the equalizer but it doesn't get better. I tried another ipod as well and the same thing happened. This is on an 07. I Also took the radio out to see if there was a connection problem but I couldn't really figure out where it was connected.

I went on the clarion site and there was one product bulletin but it was for the cmd5. I have the cmd4. Maybe the aux connection is not ipod ready?

Jack I misquoted. Swim Platforms is 25" deep not 18". I did get the same info from them but by the time it is all said and done the cost is at $2000 plus. Also I do not like the ladder location underneath. I want a telescoping. There is a company called mountain marine that I found and like the look of the platforms and ladder options. They offer a deeper platform and they are priced better. The only thing is that I would have to template the boat as they do not have a template for my year and make Sea Ray which is not hard to do. This is why I am asking if anyone has ever put on a deeper platform on this model and have had performance issue because of it.

I was looking at the bathroom mirror today I noticed it has a hinge at the top? Does this thing open at all?

A/C drip pan on a 240 Sundancer. I have a 2008 Sea Ray 240 Sundancer, that was purchased brand new in April 2008. I have 266 hours on the boat and have used the a/c about 12 different times, for about a total of 80 hours. The last time i used the a/c I noticed that water was leaking from the drip pan and going into the rear sleeping area. I took the boat to the local sea ray dealer and was informed that the plastic drip pan had a crack, which led to the water leaking into the rear sleeping area. Sea Ray dealer advised me that the warranty does not cover the drip pan and that I had to come off of $700.00 to correct the problem. ($124.00 for a new pan, $600.00 for labor). Has any one have had this problem with thier drip pan cracking?

HELP !
I have 2 2002 24' sundancers that have a small water problem in the stepdown bpart of the cabin if any one has any similar symptoms please let me know!. I is approx 1-2 gallons that accumulates in the stepdown part of the cabin. I use a shop vac to remove the water but i am hoping to find some information from other owners if this is a common problem.

Yes it has a very tough velcro fastening on the bottom. It's a way to clean behind the mirror.

hmm, I was pulling pretty hard and it wouldn't open. Is there any storage in it? I'm afraid I'm going to rip it off the wall...lol

Nothing behind it. It will come free, just pull both sides. I've only flipped mine up once.

Hi all-

First post after lurking a while, TONS of great info in here - I think I'm narrowing in on a 2000/1ish 240DA for my first boat. Seems like there may be some thought that the 5.0L is a bit underpowered and I should look for one of the larger engines if possible. Question - does the B3 on a 5.0L work efficient enough to make that a significant boost over a B2? Or should I be looking for something w/a 5.7? Would you consider a 5.OL a dealbreaker knowing what you know now?

Thanks!

I just recently traded in my 2000 240da. It had the 5.0L bravoII. (220hp) The only time I felt it to be underpowered was with a full load of people (8). Otherwise, it even pulled my up on one ski no problem. (with just two people in the boat.) Topped out around 39-41. Ran real smooth too.

The BIII is more efficient. The BII started life as houseboat/pusher drive and usually does its duty swinging larger diameter props on boats that dont plane. They dont put BII's on little cruisers anymore....and is an odd find.

I often had water accumulate down there on my 2000 240da too. But usually not that much, but it did puddle once after some real heavy rains.

Mine problem was a combination of the cockpit cover not being too water resistant anymore, and hard rains would find their way through the cover and the cracks in the cabin door. Also, the portholes were not water tight, and would drain down the sides, and the last place I found water coming from was the water line connections under the galley. They were not tight where the plastic lines met the steel lines, and were dripping.

good info, thanks! i've seen the BII on a few i was looking at, sounds like maybe there's a reason they don't put them on little cruisers anymore? then again...

...maybe not! ch435 - why'd you upgrade? how long did the 240 suit your needs?

We had it for about 2 years. (I was just the second owner) By then we knew we liked the Sundancers, and decided to upgrade to a 280.

2010 240DA questions

Just got s new 2010 Sundancer and i had some questions for other owners.

Has anyone found a good skylight cover? I'm wondering if there are any good covers that fit, or any suggestions. Mainly looking to block out the light when sleeping onboard in the forward berth.

Are compasses standard? There is one in the GPS but ive been looking around at other 240's and it seems like they all have them. None of the 2010's at the dealer did though.

Also looking for a sink insert, like the 260's came with. Anyone know if there is an insert that might fit?

Thanks!
