Official 240 Sundancer Thread

Here's my set up. It's a magma bait table with dual mount. The grill is mounted to one of the legs, with a arm sticking out the side. It can be rotated so the grill is over the boat cockpit or over the water. I drilled the holes in the side rails and mounted the brackets.

That's a great looking setup you have there. We tend to tie up with others so I'm afraid I'd be cooking over their boat which probably wouldn't make them happy. I saw a guy you had a pole mount for one of his bimini posts which I think will work best in our situation.

Yea, I try to always raft up on the port side. If I can't then I swing the grill in over my boat and just be very careful. I put a cloth over the seat to catch drips, but honestly I haven't had any problems. Works great.

If you worry about the grill being over a rafted up boat you should mount it on the stern so the grill is over the swim platform. If you mount it on a bimini pole, wont it still be over a rafted boat? Just thinking.

With the fenders in between the boats and tieing up with afts aligned I have a nice little space over the water. Worse case though I simply swing the grill so that it's over my platform. In looking at your picture, it doesn't appear you have an aft bimini (I didn't see the connector on your boat). That's where I've installed the pole mount on my boat. Right above the latch for the door.

Yea, no I don't have camper canvas, would like to though.

Ah yes...I see it now. Should work great.

Have you seen the new swim platform for our model boat by "swim platforms"? They have built a nice one for us. I'm on the fence about adding one to my boat. I like it. The estimate they sent to me was about 1400.00 for the platform and I forget what shipping was, and the crate cost. Out the door seemed like close to 2000.00.
I'm trying to decide if it is worth it or not. They'll only go up in price as time slips by though. Oh well, decide later. lol.

The admiral puckered up a little on the $2,000 price tag but I just know that a big box is going to be in the garage one of these days with a note to please attach. She doesn't like diving off the back from the small platform.

It is nice that you can use your existing ladder though.

I want to add one also, the platform is just to small and I think the ladder should be on the port side.

To brag alittle bit, I spoke to Scott at swim platforms when they were still making the mold. I told him I didn't understand why the ladder was on the opposite side from the entry door. He checked it out and made it so the ladder aligned with the door. I still don't understand why Sea Ray puts the ladder on the opposite side of the door. If you look at most SR models it is that way.

You guys are helping me make up my mind though!

Exactly, anyone sitting on the platform has to move when someone gets out of the water and wants to go in the boat.

This was from last Aug.

Platform package is $ 1595.
Wood shipping crate and packing material is $ 98.
Current freight (fob Phoenix, AZ) to a business at zip code 02563 is estimated at $ 346.
Delivering to a residential address is $ 63 more.

My swim ladder is on the opposite side of the door. I like it that way because I have my grill mounted there too. This way if I'm grilling and someone wants to climb aboard from the dock I can keep grillin' and I'm not in their way.

very nice install. I noticed on your cooler you installed the flush mount metal clips. Did you screw to swim deck or did you router out a whole to flush mount them?

Thanks. They are surface mounted but are so low profile, that when the cooler's off isn't really an issue, toe grab or trip hazard.

Hey guys. I'm new to site and Ihave just purchased a '04 240DA. I upgraded from a runabout and can't wait to get it out on the water. I've read throught the posting and a lot of good ideas are out there. I look forward to reading more and hopefully contributing something to the string. Thanks KenP

OK guys, here's a real tough one for my 240DA family.
"Playdays" is a 2000 240DA 5.7 Bravo 2. Last Saturday prior to launch I noticed a crack in my lower gear casing from prop to the upright turn (about 2 1/2 inches long). Weld it or replace the gear casing? A new casing is $2K +++. No water penetration into the gear lube (yet!) so I will cruise on - but - Why not in November??!!

Well without seeing it it's tough to tell, but you may be able to take it to a reputable prop shop and have them weld it. The question will be the heat generated near the seals. Maybe you can have the lower end removed, all seals and gears removed, welded, then reassembled, but that is quite a bit of labor too.

Best of luck.

Hit the horn button yesterday and the resulting sound was like a very weak goose being strangled! Replacing the horn looks pretty straight foward with access through the anchor locker.

The question is should I replace it with a O.E.M. Searay horn or should I be considering other devices? I had replaced the original electric horn on my previus 220 DA with a dual air horn, but it lasted only a season before it gave out. Any suggestions?

I purchased a replacement (OEM) horn on ebay for around $30. Mine also sounded like a strangled goose. Works great now. I figured if the original horn lasted 10 years, I'd get another like it. Plus the Ongaro is all stainless-steel.
