Official 240 Sundancer Thread

He said he leaves the 12V off and turns the Outlet/Refrigerator outlets on the AC panel on. Please let me know if that works.

I kinda of thought that is how it should work. On this one, the refrigerator did not work when I shut the 12v switch off, even though the shore power was on, the main breaker was on and the outlet/refrigerator switch on the a/c panel was on. There was power to the outlet, but no fridge. I guess there is something wrong with it, and will become a negotiation item. Thanks.

Re: 240 Da height when on Trailer

Hi thanks Cos_man99 and Islandhopper, I did some plans with a 12' door and in 2 weeks will measure when my boat is on trailer before going up north.

Regards,

Joel C.

I have a '99 240DA which was in the same model year span ('96-'99) and basically identical to yours. My fridge had the same problem and the solution was very simple. I pulled it out to replace the door latch that had broken and noted that the fridge was simply not plugged in. There is a regular house looking type of electrical outlet back there that you'd buy in any Home Depot or Lowes, and the electrical cord was not plugged into it. I plugged it in the outlet, and voila! it worked.

It's only four screws holding the fridge into the cabinet. Pull it out and see if it is plugged in. My 2 cents is betting that it isn't.

Can you hear the compressor when the refrigerator is on DC? In my case I can hear the motor when hooked to shore power and have refrigerator/outlets switched on at the AC panel. For DC, I switch the AC panel off, and turn on the refrigerator rocker at the cockpit panel. I don't hear the motor when using DC, but there is green led inside the refrigerator that indicates it is on.

We just experienced a problem with our fridge also. Compressor would run but wouldn' get the fridge really cold. The tech at the dealership told us it's not economically feasible to fix them so we took it to someone else for a 2nd opinion. We now have a new fridge. Lucked out and got a deal on one through work that someone had ordered and then was not able to pay for. They have one more there for $589.00 CDN, but I tend to think you could get a way better deal in the good 'ol USA. The new fridge is awesome, even gets the beer ice cold and makes ice in the freezer part. I was quoted up to $1400.00 CDN for a replacement fridge for that size of opening. The one I ended up with took only a bit of modification to install. Good luck.

Thanks. Mine gets cold on AC power. It just doesn't kick the compressor on when on DC. I should disclose that I actually have a 250DA 1998, but the interior is same as the 240s I looked at.

I think the DC side is fused seperately from the AC side, at least in mine it was. You'll have to pull it out of the cabinet to check the DC fuse anyway. I started my trouble shooting by tracing voltages to as far as I could. When I could see the voltages going in to the circuit board I knew it was something else and proceeded to remove the fridge. It comes out very easily, probably takes more time to get it off the boat without scratching anything than it does to remove it from the cabinet. Also, make sure your battery has enough umph in it to run the fridge. I actually think that they don't use a compressor. They might work on the ammonia gas principle, where the gas is circulated by a small pump and heated electrically. The heated gas is what cools the fridge,,,,,,,, I think.

Hello gents !

Im new here and would like to send best greetings from germany to all of you!

i recently purchased a 2006 240 sundancer which is my third boat after a 20ft fishercabin hardtop and a 21ft cuddy - all european manufacturers .

what i like :

-good overall quality of the hull and the interior, far superior in comparision to my other boats.
-sexy overall design and optics of the boat ;-)
-roomy cockpit with a luxury layout
-my girlfriend loves the hot water intallation and possibility to take a shower
-stand up height in cabin
-good cabin lightning
-full sunbrella cover
-much more!

what i dislike:

-dynamic stability , - you have to pay attention to keep it level, the boat may suddenly list hard , in my 21ft cuddy it was not a problem to cross tail waves of another boats being fully on plane - i in my current state of experience with this boat i do not have the guts to do it with a 240 sundancer. ( on the other hand i did not find a single report somebody ever managed to really roll over a 240 DA )
-it tends to be stern heavy, massive bowrise on take off unless you take also the tabs full down ( what has other disadvantages )
-poor cockpit lightning , i miss a bright spotlight for e.g installing the camper cover when its dark outside.

i have also two questions : my galley faucet is leaking al little resulting in the fresh waterpump to kick in from time to time and topping up pressure - is this a known issue and maybe a quick way to sort it out ?

i have the clarion radio and a sirius satellite receiver. when going to sirius on the radio i get a message "linking" but without any result even after several minutes. do i miss something ?

thanks for any input and best regards !

Aerobat77, welcome to the forum and the world of Sea Rays. I have had a few "off shore" capable cuddies and I agree, there IS a big difference in how they behave when the surface conditions change abruptly. I think this is a trade off for having the extra head room and amenities. You'll just have to get used to adjusting the trim tabs on the fly I guess/ Same goes for the stern weight. The weight distribution in these small cruisers isn't as uniform as in a lot of other boats. They are a compromise of sorts. Can't help you with your stereo. Your faucet sounds like it could have some build up of some kind, or some wear, in the seals. You could try taking it apart and cleaning the individual parts in viegar, or just replacing the seals. We've never had a problem with any of ours so far. Lighting; you're right, it ain't too bright, so I bought myself one of those "headlight" gadgets that you can strap to your head, for use at night when we're putting the top on. They're LED's and don't seem to attract as many bugs as the big spot light used to.

Again, welcome to the forum, and please post some pics of your new ride and your family enjoying it. All the best.

Re: 240 Da height when on Trailer

These are just such gorgeous boats that I had to post these picson this thread. We were returning to the "Mother Ship" from a trip into town on the ski boat for Iced caps. My fault, I forgot the coffee grinder on the dining room table on the way out. We now have a designated "boat" coffee grinder.

Thanks to all for the replies on the refrigerator issue I posted on. I checked some of the things suggested; the refrigerator was plugged in and there is power to the outlet. So I guess the AC side is not working. I figure that when at the dockand hooked up to shore power, I can still run the refrigerator on DC. I would think that with the charger on also, it shouldn't drain the batteries.
As I stated, this was a boat that we were looking to purchase. Everything else checked out ok, so we went forward and bought her. So far the couple of times we've been out, I am very happy with the decision. The only thing I have to get used to is the handling and using the trim tabs. Our previous boat was a 215EC, which I have to say is a solid boat that handles a lot bigger than it really is. We're looking forward to our first overnight on the 240!

thanks chris for your reply ! i will look to upload some pictures of the boat, it is in great shape and condition.

@ fav : the refrigator should work with shorepower even when 12 DC is switched off - but when not it is not a big deal here. when you are on shorepower and only 12 dc works it means it draws the power from the batteries - but these are now recharged from the battery charger. when underway you get recharging from the alternator.

it should be not a problem !

Looks great Chris. Pride in ownership is apparent in thoes pictures!

Thanx Mike. We lucked right out and found an awesome one this time. The PO hardly used it. Spent summers sitting on a boat lift at his cottage and winters in dry storage. Has 300 hours on it. Poor guy was probably too busy with his dental practice and young family to get any real use out of it. The v-berth and galley hadn't even been used at all. They've got some miles on 'em now though.

hey gents ! i have some questions for a 2006 240 DA :

i have the navman chartplotter and since i live in europe i adjusted settings to metric units. when i switch off the battery master the navman resets to default settings so i have to make the settings again. does it not have a storage battery ?

the bilge pump has a two way switch - on or off. off is "auto" where the float switch is armed , on is always on. is it also "armed" with battery master off , so hot wired to the battery or is it then really off ?

does the 240 has anywhere floatation foam hidden ? ( i guess not because its above 20 ft and so not in regulation )

thanks very much !

Chris is that black pipe insulation or something wrapped around your bimini top supports? Curious as to what purpose it serves...
