Official 240 Sundancer Thread

I will be dry docking indoors but using it exclusively in Salt water.
I am able to flush after each use.

To make up the v berth do you use the velcroed cushions on the side?

Thanks again for your patience!

I need to get a flag mounted, do I have to drill for that or is there a pole that would use the stern light mount?

I am posting this question who is a friend. If weight is put on the transom enough he gets a nasty leak into his bilge. The mechanic told him there is a rubber boot that surrounds his steering coupler. This is ripped and thats where the water is comming in. The only way to replace it is to pull the boat and cut a hole in the transom. This seems extreme. Has anyone done this repair themselfs before, or can walk me through how to do it?
Thnx.

Is there a way to store the camper canvas on the boat? I don't want to carry it up the dock and home etc from the marina. I was thinking I could store it under the mid cabin pads?

Also, what's the best way to install it? I was caught in some drizzle last weekend and tried to put it on while on the lake, but there was at least 2" gap between the rubber extrusion and top of the windshield. The manual is pretty vague on sequence to put this stuff together.

I have a 240 towing question. Is anyone towing with an 06 or newer F150) I'd like to get a 240 in about 3-4 years but I need more towing capacity before I can. (Actually I'd like to get one right now, but there's this money thing I'm working on.)

Properly equiped, most F150s I've looked at are rated at 9200lbs with payloads of around 1400lbs. I'm trying to avoid a Superduty.

I leave the biminis up but the canvas rolled and covered in the boots, then carefully roll the clear vinyl with protective sheets in between each and stow it in the bag it came in. I then stow it on the vberth or mid cabin. We always deploy full canvas each night to keep the dew off and any mosquitos out.

That's just practice, get the zipppers started about 3-6 inches then set the seal a meal in the extruded windshield as I connect each piece. You just will have to do it a few times to get the hang of it. It's also easier if it's warmer.

I think you'll be fine but I wouldn't tow a bigger boat with it. Double check your capacity

Thanks. Those are the aproximate capacities of a 06+ F150 Crew cab, 6.5ft box 4x4 lariat. There is no way that I would use that to tow anything bigger. I also don't see my income supporting anything much bigger until after retirement anyway not to mention that my availabe water isn't that big.

Mike

I had an 05 F150 Lariat 4x2. I had the 155 gear differential, not sure if I remember correctly, but I had no problems towing it. I am located in Miami, FL so we don't have any hills. Depending where you live, a 4x4 may be needed.

I'm in northern Ky so we get snow and all that plus I have some property to get around on so 4x4 is a must. I'm going to get the 3.73s, you probably had 3.55s, so I think I'll be good.

Now I'm excited. The less I spend on the truck, the more I can spend on the boat eventually.

Yes, you are correct. I had the 3.55. Make sure the trailer is set up correctly for your boat. Good luck!

I have been towing my 2004 240 Sundancer for years. I started with 2004 Ford Expedition with a 5.4 motor and 3.73 gears. It was not bad, but the boat on a CAT scale with trailer (obviously) fuel, water, and gear for an overnight came in that 8950-lb. Border line for the 9200 capacity of the Ford. I towed from CT to FL twice and once up to Lake Champlain. I had good four wheel disk surge brakes and a sturdy aluminum I-beam trailer. In 2006, I ended up with a 2006 GMC Denali as a company car. What a P.O.S. to tow with. 6.2 motor, 6 speed, and 3.42 rear. HORRIBLE! I could not tow to FL, I couldn't tow beyond my office and home (20 miles). I'm an experienced hauler and have towed thousands of miles, foot to the floor to maintain 50 mph on little inclines in CT was the norm in the GMC. It simply was not safe. I just purchased a new 2010 RAM 2500 MegaCab with a Cummins T/D, jake brake, and converted the trailer brakes to E over H for use with the in-cab controller. Now I'm smiling. If you tow locally (under 10 miles) with the right tongue weight, you can use pretty much anything if the law doesn't see you. But DO NOT use a tow vehicle that is nearing border line capacity for any distance. You endanger yourself, your family, and others on the road. I know many people don't like to drive the 2500 / 250 + kind of truck, but there is a reason Ford, Dodge, and Chevy make them........for your new 240!!!!!!!!!!

I currently have the 08 Tundra 4x2 and I only tow locally or to the keys. The tundra pulls no problems. However, I know I want to go bigger and I need a bigger truck and I have my eyes on a F-250. Unfortunately, I don't like the price tag. I am thinking of getting a bigger boat to wet slip.

AM looking for a replacement prop for my 1997 240DA that i just purchased. Any suggestions on what I should put on her?

Thanks!!

The 1997 240DA i just purchased has the carburated 350 merc. I am pretty sure that has 260 HP, but the registration that I got with the boat shows 210 HP. Can anyone confirm the HP for me? Like I said, I am pretty cure it's 260.

Thanks!!

I had a 96 240 DA and the base engine for that year was a 210 hp 5.7. It's not unlikely that yours is also. It's adequate until you have a full load and then it's a little harder to keep it on plane. Experiment with your tabs. Good luck,

Hey all, love the info you guys share on this forum. Makes me glad im a sea ray owner. Any ways this is my third season boating on my first 2000 240 sundancer. A few things have been bothering me about the boat and i cant seem to find answers, so ill give it a shot here. :smt100
__my camper canvas is way out dated, the rubber doesnt stay in place, smacked me once across the face going 28 miles an hour. yeah it hurt. i cut the rubber off at various places and replpaced it with heavy dutty velcro. needles to say it has not worked. what are my options and how much would a brand new camper cost, my zippers are rusted as well.
__My next question is regarding my fridge. Stoped working one day after i purchased the boat. is it fixable or need i replace the whole unit. $600 bucks aint cheep.
__Lastly i have tried to figure out how many galons per hour my boat burns. any one have an idea of what this boat should be getting. Also should i fill up super or regular.
Any advice will be appretiated...

Todd, thanks for the reply. For now I have it under the mid cabin pads flat with some really soft sheets in between everything. In a week or so will try and camp out with the kids.
