Official 2003.5-2008 340 Sundancer Thread

Anyone happen to know what size the clamshell vent covers are on port side for the exhaust fan? Found them on ebay in two sizes, Small 5-11/16 X 5 and Medium 7-3/8 X 6-5/8.

Finally went down and measured mine, 5 11/16 X 5 in case anyone needs to know at some point in the future.

I finally own my 340 sundancer after long search, thanks to the many members of this forum (in particular this thread) with lots of important feedback as i was going thru last try which nailed it.
Boat is running great, all spark plugs, wires , antifreeze, impellers , oil/filter, were replaced
On the first week , looking to do bottom paint and blue underwater lights , probably seablaze X from Lumitec , anybody tried these? Want to install 4 lights.

thanks everyone.

We have them, ours change color from blue to white. Great lights, good choice! On recommend from another CSR member we put 3 on which is ample.

I am new to this Forum - very soon to be purchasing a 2005 340. No salon flat screen - has anyone added this themselves? If this isn't the correct pace to post this question could someone please direct me to the right place?

Thanks!

what s the fuel burn per hour?

The reason you're not seeing many 8.1's around is they are the preferred engines and sell much faster than the 6.2's. While the 6.2 May be enough power they are working a lot harder to get the same results of the 8.1's.

With the 8.1's your best economy is right around 3250-3450 rpm and you'll be getting .95-1.00 gph.

After searching, I found this bulb in a local electrical contractors store. The bulb is also used in refrigerators believe it or not. Let me know if you are still looking and I'll get you the contact info.

Has anyone installed a Digital Converter box to get reception on the original TV's? If so can you tell me the model you got and where you installed them? Do you need a DTV for each tv?

I found it easier just to replace the televisions with HD LCD/LED sets. I found a 23" thin set that replaced the stock 19 inch that mounts on the bulkhead.

so I posted this in the Gas engine section but cant get any replies, so I figured I'd try here and see if it helps.

So I launched my 2005 sea ray 340 with 8.1's today and everything was going great. Motors started up with no problem and seemed to be running fine, idle was good but low fuel alarm went on and noticed tanks were empty so... We backed up from the the hoist and pulled over to the fuel pumps, we got gas and restarted motors. At this point everything is still fine except that I noticed one of my smart gauges was reading that one tank was full and other was dead empty. I thought that was weird because all other gauges in that cluster were working fine but thought maybe just a loose wire. I bought the boat last month in Florida and just had it shipped to michigan so it traveled 1300 miles and figured a loose wire is very possible. Anyway, we started heading across the lake at idle and everything still seemed fine until I began to accelerate and get on plane, right away the guardian alarm started beeping and telling me "overspeed" and throttle down. So I immediately did. Lifted the engine hatch here I see that in the tray under the one engine there was a lot of water but still everything seemed ok and rhe boat was idling fine. I shut her down and restarted, tried to acelerate again and got same message.so during throttle up it alarms but as soon as I throttle down it goes away. I turned around and took it back to marina so a mechanic can check it out tomorrow. Anyone have any ideals?? The crazy thing is that the boat sounded great and seems fine other than the alarm. Not sure if fuel gauge and this alarm are connected or if they are completely different. Let me know if anyone has had a similar issue.

Had this alarm 3 years ago - Idled fine - give it power overspeed alarm - When it was all said and done the intake under my boat had become clogged with sea weed - not enough water was getting to the pump. Check your impellers look at your strainers is there debris in them?

That's a good thought. To be honest I was so mad that I buttoned it up and went home without looking at anything. Ill check that out tomorrow while I'm out there. thanks

I had this alarm when some kelp wrapped around my screw and again when I had a bad bearing. For the kelp I put the boat in reverse with a little throttle. For the bearing, I had to have it replaced. Best of luck!

when you had the bad bearing did it idle fine and sound ok? did the alarm only come on when you tried to accelerate? how much was the fix and how long did it take?

Dose anyone else with a 340 hear complaints about the swim platform being too high off the water? My wife gripes about it all the time because its too high to sit on and put her feet in the water.

Any solutions to this other than trying to convince her we just need a larger boat?
