Official 2003.5-2008 340 Sundancer Thread

Just purchased a 2006 340 and I have no idea what this pad is and where it is used? PO was not sure…any help would be great!

I believe it's a cushion for the cockpit table if you want to make a cockpit sunpad. I've got the same pad but have never used it.

I will take a look at it tomorrow and if it doesn’t work well, will put it in the attic with the built in vacuum cleaner tubing. Thanks for the reply!

I do not see where this would snap on to anywhere near the cockpit table so it remains a mystery unless someone else knows where it goes?

It is indeed the pad for the cockpit table. It sits on top of it and the straps pool under each respective area and snap onto snaps that are on the underside of the table. The table then sits in the edge of the U rear seating. Stock setup from SR. Makes for a very nice sun lounge area. I few other tidbits. The table and pole store under the engine hatch. There is a hidden storage area behind the mid berth on the left side. Remove cushion and pull seatback towards you. Large storage area. There is another in the cabinet on the opposite side of the mid berth. It is under the lid on the bottom left shelf. Those are just a couple of storage areas some surveyors don't point out. I found and entire 12vdc to 1250 watt 120vac inverter system after bringing ours home. Was never found by the surveyor and the broker had no idea it was there. Our surveyor did a nice job, but he did miss a few things that we found after a month or so of bringing her home.

Korkie - Thanks for the info - I found all storage areas except for the cabinet on the opposite side of the mid berth. It is under the lid on the bottom left shelf - I will look today as well as trying the sun lounge set up you described...Thx!

Another question- what is this water switch for? How and when should it be used? Nothing in the manual describes its function.

Rear defroster...LOL. But really. There is a spare wire in the engine compartment harness. Off hand I don't know the number. There should be 2 wires near the EIM. Get a multi meter and you can check it out. I used that one to turn on my FLIR.

As mnm99 stated it is an extra on the 340. Smaller vessels have the same switch pad and it is actually used to turn on the fresh water system for them. Ours in on the electrical panel, so this switch is extra. The wire mnm99 speaks of can be used to power other components. There are actually 2 wires under there and 2 that come out of the engine room EIM as well. On the switch panels are forward Accs and Aft Assc on the left side and Assc 1 / Assc 2 on the right. Forward Assc and assc 1 wires are located coming from the forward EIM under the steering wheel and Aft Assc and Assc 2 come from the EIM unit in the engine room. The water switch wire also comes from the forward EIM. They are usually about 10 - 12 inches long and may be incorporated in that big fat group that comes out the side of the EIM and are normally terminated wire a crimp end. They will provide 12vdc when the respective switch is activated on the panel. BE CAREFUL that you do not attach a component that requires more amperage than the circuit provides. When I hooked mine up, I went into the EIM and found the actual circuit and noted the fuse size for it so I would know. I used mine for switching on my inverter relay, underwater lights, rear stern swim platform lights and blue courtesy lights I installed in my cockpit. Below is the specs for these wires:

Forward Accy - wire number 535, color Red/Violet, 14 gauge wire, fused @ 15 amp
Accy 1 - wire number 536, color Red/Violet, 14gauge wire, fused @ 10 amps

Aft Accy - wire number 526, color Red/Violet, 14 gauge wire, fused @ 15 amps
Accy 2 - wire number 527, color Red/Violet, 14 gauge wire, fused @ 15 amps.

The water switch can also be used, but i am not sure of that number or amperage.

Also: The wire numbers may not be in line with what the manual says. So as you find them, Put a grounded test light on them and try each switch. Mine were not exactly correct, but were all there.

As this is a new boat to you, never assume things are until you know first hand. Make sure the wires are fused for the proper amps. It takes a little investigating, you just don't how the PO did things. Many novice boat owners do not properly perform maintenance nor installations when it comes to their electrical systems.

Remember this golden rule: Measure at least 3 times and cut once. Always test your work to be sure it is right.

Best wishes for an exciting and memorable boating experience with your new purchase.

Anyone know the color wire for the horn out of the main harness.. I found it once on my 320 but I forgot the color as its prob the same. Or does anyone have the wiring diagram for the 05 340

On our 2006 340. hot side is wire #222 / orange and black. ground is #223 / black both indicate 16 gauge and it is fused with only a 5 amp fuse. Careful if you are changing out your horn to anything draws more than 3 or 4 amps.

If your draw is going to be high - or you want to protect the circuit - you can just wire these to a relay.

Today was a new steering wheel. 15 minutes. 15/16 socket and a rubber mallet. Presto. A few Allen wrench twists and on. The one I took off was the original I believe and very worn.

Ok, you can not post such a pretty piece with a link to where to copy you…

Would anyone still have their original backdrop canvas that wouldn't mind helping me to determine if the backdrop that I have is in fact original equipment canvas please. I purchased the boat used and don't know for sure if it is the original factory canvas backdrop. I am trying to determine if the zippers on my backdrop canvas would mate up with the zippers of new canvas rear bimini if purchased from Great Lakes Boat Tops. Confusing yes but I just need to verify before I purchase and Great Lakes cant help.
Thanks in advance.

I'll bet @KevinC could help here. I'm sure he will chime in.

I may be able to help you out... plus we distribute GLBT so we'll get you a discount when you're ready to purchase.

Send me your info on my request form at https://www.covemarine.com and I will contact you. I will probably want to get some pictures and will want to talk to you.

Thanks @techmitch for tagging me here.
