Official 1998 Sea Ray Sundancer 290 Thread

2) Since i have had it my motor hatch is heavy as shit. I have replaced the 2 shock pumps with what i thought i had in it. If i lift the motor hatch i have to use a metal pipe to hold it up. Does any of yours stay up on its own and if so what lbs shock are you using.

Really need to buy the correct ones. I bought mine through the marina parts department and the 2 that I bought work great. Might want to look up the part number and see if you bought the correct ones.

part number 813980 80PSI 12" to 20" extended.

Jeff: Totally agree. Early in our boating career, it seems something went wrong every trip (lost tools, blown head gaskets, piston going through the side of an engine, dinghy motors going overboard...). Now, our standing procedure before trips is to just throw some quarters in the bay before we untie the dock lines. Our joking belief is that King Triton is getting something; It might as well be something of our choosing.

I 100% agree. I started this rituals after i spent 1 entire month down at the marina in the hot engine room trying to fix a problem. I swore after that that i would pay my fee to the boat gods before every trip. Has worked for 2 years now and plan on doing it for many more

No. I think standard. Love them. They let in just enough breeze to keep it very cool down there when on the water. Normally dont open top hatches due to having people up there on the sun deck hanging out

Hmm, I would love to have those. Mine must have a different option package. I only have the 1 main forward hatch and not the two smaller port/starboard hatches either...

I've seen a few late 1998's have the 1999 features. They also have the kitchen on the right and 3 sky lights where the early 1998's like most of us on here have the kitchen on the left and only one. :(

I did a search thrue sea ray. Gave them my hin # and was told its a 1998 with a 1999 layout. Built in july and they always change over style in june. Can learn a wealth of stuff if ya call them. They can give you all info for your boat when it rolled out of factory

Fyi. Think from 98 + they all basically the same boat. Only change was the cabin layout.
Ok thanks Jeff. In that case, I think I can consider this the right thread for my 2001, since I didn't see one specific to that year. Appreciate you checking it out!

We are all welcoming. :)

The systems are probably pretty much the same until the next facelift I do believe.

Shark,
Ducky has a great library of info on that boat. Has downloaded all manuals and stuff. I have printed out all of it and put it in a binder to keep on the boat. Has saved me many times when something needed to get fixed. Great to have this site for guys like that who have taken the time.
