Official 1998 Sea Ray Sundancer 290 Thread

We are all welcoming. :)

The systems are probably pretty much the same until the next facelift I do believe.

Thanks! I've been browsing through the thread, and everyone is super welcoming! It's great to be here. We just got the boat 10 days ago, and we're loving it!

Ok thanks Jeff. In that case, I think I can consider this the right thread for my 2001, since I didn't see one specific to that year. Appreciate you checking it out!

A lot of our 1998's identify as 2001's so we are all inclusive.....:D

The previous owner installed tri-color LED lights on the arch, which aren't fully functional now. I can see that water has gotten in them, and would like to replace them. Does anyone know how they're typically removed? I tried turning the bezel, thinking it might screw off, but seems to just be spinning. Do they pry off, or maybe I have to get to them from the top of the arch? Any advice would be appreciated!

I'm also looking to replace the plastic cup holder on the port side of the deck, and the transom door stop - both are cracked. I gave the part #'s to a local sea ray dealer, but haven't heard back yet. I also checked online, but couldn't find them. Anybody have any sources, or ideas, for these small replacement items?

Just a suggestion..... if you are looking for something specific post up a picture.

Most can find anything or give you some suggestions on what you can replace the item with.

As our boats get older we have to get creative once in a while. ;)

Yes, will do. I just came back from the boat and took a few pics of the LED lights I’d like to replace (or change bulbs if possible). I just don’t know how to get them off and didn’t want to break or scratch anything. I also took a pic of the cracked drink holder. Now, let’s see if I can post the pics correctly, lol!

We all have the stupid cup holder and I bet most are cracked. I was thinking at some point to remove mine and make a replacement out of teak. The lights on the other hand might have been replaced at one point because they are different than the ones on my 1998 model.

I found the part # for the cup holder, but no luck locating one yet. I’ll also try a local plastic fabricator that my Sea Ray dealer suggested for the transom door stop (pic attached of my broken one).

Yes the LED’s are replacements, but I thought maybe they would be removed the same way as the factory ones, whatever those were..I think someone suggested gently prying them off, but I figured I’d ask before I tried that.

Like ducky has said. These boats are older and we have to be very creative. Just remember if you cant find a part use your imagination and make something or if your not handy have it made. That makes your tub custome and personal to you. Almost every time i go out i sit and thing of new things to change or play with

Yep, understood. I'm going to bring the drink holder and transom door stop to a local plastics guy. Same here - always thinking of new things to do - especially since we've only had it for two weeks! I appreciate the replies/advice from you guys. I actually browsed this entire thread from the beginning, enjoying the ideas, advice, pics, etc. My wife already thinks I'm crazy!

The transom door stop is an easy one. Cut it down short (just above the next screw hole) and put some white gelcoat in the boat to fill the top screw hole. That would be my quick easy fix.:D

The cup holder is up for discussion. I hate that thing and I'm thinking of just removing mine and leaving that area open and clear. I can't tell you how many times a drink or bottle of water fell out of that and landed in the lounge. It needs to be about 1" taller.

Good ideas, thanks! If I do have the cup holder re-made I’ll go taller for sure.

Thanks for the suggestions. I found a local plastic guy who knocked out the transom door stop ($30) while I waited. Perfect replica.

He will also make the cup holder ($100), except 1” taller.

I was able to get the LED lights off (pryed the bezel off, and then 3 screws to remove the fixture - piece of cake). Ordered the same ones on Amazon, so I’m good to go.

I hope everyone has a great weekend, and Happy Fathers Day to all the dads out there!

Post some pictures of the finished cup holder. I’m sure there are many of us out here that need it replaced. Mine is cracked also and I hate that it’s so low that nothing stays in the holder.

Will do. He’s super busy, but when it’s done I’ll post some pics.

Quick question: What does everyone use to reach the front windshield to clean it?

I scrubbed the crap out of my boat yesterday..... My dock mates probably thought it was abandoned. :(
