Official (1998-2002) 310 Sundancer Thread

Just purchased a 2001 310 Sundancer. I have been chasing a battery issue with a dead cell, long story short i have learned a bit about my boat. What I won wis that the motors are not wired like I would have expected. I have three batteries two of which are wired in parallel to the port motor, this apparently includes the house battery. The other battery is wired to the starboard motor which has the alternator, this the is the only motor with an alternator.

Question:
Is this a usual configuration, I was expecting one set of batteries for the motors and the house battery to be isolated?
Is is common to only have one alternator?
Any thoughts why the stereo runs off the single battery with the alternator.
When turning on the "AC Convertor" this I am assuming is really the battery charger. Has anyone had issues with this not being able to keep up with DC power needs?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Mines a 2002 the 2 batteries in series are my house and starboard motor batteries.
The single is the port motor and the generator.
Both my motors have alternators. (2 gauges on dash)
Everything dc runs off the 2 batteries.
I also have an emergency start switch at the helm if one bank is dead you can start on the good bank.
The AC converter is the battery charger

I have a 2000 310, 3 stb batteries wired in parallel that start stb motor and serve as house bank. 1 additional battery the serves as port starter. Both engines have alternators.

If you only have on alternator, then you are missing one. There should be one on each engine. AC converter charges both banks. When I am on the hook, I have enough power for 3 days if I am running the refrigerator, longer if just lights and head.

Really not a good setup with one alternator. This must have been a quick fix from the last owner. It's important to get the electrical manual and review manufacturing battery diagrams to assure that nothing else has been removed or modified before you go ahead and installed anything. Wires could have been damaged and thus disconnected and so on. I would look on getting things back to manufacturing spec's for piece of mind. Happy Holidays.

Still looking for a 310. Found a 99 with 5.7 v-drives. Not sure if it's mpi or carbs. Did they do carbs on a 99? Going to look at it later in the week. Told that there's some moisture readings on the deck. Is that common?

I am not sure about the mpi v carbs for that year but moisture on the deacker is not uncommon my 2000' had moisture due to a leaking deck hatch. Had forward third of deck pulled up, core replaced and then deck put back. Hatch was also removed and resealed. Fixed problem. Not cheap though.

The 99,s were fitted with both based on the package selected, at least this is what I have seen on the market. I haven't had problems with moisture at the hatches but it is commen and if not attended quickly it could be messy and expensive. I did have an issue with one side window which I sealed up quickly. Really don't use these windows anyway. The most important thing to check is if the area around the hatches are soft that's a problem. $$$$$. Good luck - Note! these are great family boats.

awesome work. great job. You are going to love the extra real estate you have added. I did the same thing to my swimplatform two years ago. Best thing I did to the boat besides the dripless. Look at my avatar

can someone please tell me the pound rating for the struts that hold the engine hatch up on a 1999 310 sundancer?
or even a part #
i had read it somewhere before but i'm searching and searching but not finding anything.

Looks great. How hard is it to remove the platform from the boat? Is it all bonded to the hull with glue or something or just bolts? thanks

It was bolted and glued but not to hard to remove. You just have to work it up and down

Anyone know how to take off the rear bench so you can have an open cockpit to fish? Think there is a way to rig it so it is easy in and out?

In my 02, the rear bench comes right out. It's attached at the back on Hinges with removable pins.

Hope this helps.

Sure does! The pins needed some work, but I got it out! Much easier than anticipated. Thank you!
