Official (1998-2002) 310 Sundancer Thread

Ok so I am now very frustrated... Last year I had to replace the strbd shaft seal. The mechanic had to cut it off and therefore had to replace the shaft as well $$$$$ ... Yesterday the Port seal failed and started leaking. I have the blue dripless seals.

How many of you with the inboards have had this problem? I cannot believe I am going through this again...

Go to your local sign guy and have him/her print you a couple. All you need to do is find a good one and take a pic with your phone, send them the scan, and they can print it off for you.

Looking for a Raytheon RL70C Chartplotter/Radar unit. Only need the head unit and sun cover. If anyone upgraded their electronics and has one laying around please let me know.
Thanks

I would suggest the SL70C if you can get your hands on one unless you need the dual station functionality. it fits in the same hole if that is your goal. It's color and much faster to switch screens.

Tides Marine - Strong Seal (makers of the dripless shaft seals on our v-drive models) has a rebate program. If you contact them and ask them to send you a replacement, they will give you a RMA - MRA number to return the old, bad one and you will receive 1/2 of the purchase price back as a rebate. Just ask them for the rebate program.

Hello fellow boaters. I have a couple of questions:

1. We used the boat yesterday and I noticed that at some point while we were out, the engine hour meter on the port engine no longer shows anything in the display. Like any good boater, I banged on the display a few times with my finger but still nothing. The RPM gauge works but not the hour meter. Has anyone ever experienced this?

2. Thank you to those of you who recommended calling Imtra about the radio antenna. I removed it from the boat, called them to get an RMA number and mailed it back. A few days later I had a new antenna, cable and all.

3. RPM Question - Our 310 with inboards rides great at 3200-3400 RPM but at this RPM range we are going about 18 mph. When I get closer to 4000 RPM (maybe 3900), the boat really moved along nicely at about 25 MPH. I know there has been a lot of talk about the ideal RPM range but I wanted to pose the question again ... is 3900-4000 too much strain?

4. Has anybody ever been able to find the litter stickers that say "Throttle"? Mine is peeling off and I would like to replace it. When I called Sea Ray they had no idea what I was talking about.

Thanks and happy boating!

Craig

Anyone have any thoughts on 1 and 3?

Also,
A: our down foot petal on the bow for the anchor stopped working. This is the second time one of those petals has broken.
B: our RL70 tends to lose it's fix. Sometimes it recovers from that and sometimes it doesn't. Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks!

Any of you 98 310 owners ever service the shower sump?. Where do you access the sump? Since the 98 has a unique cabin plan other years may not be in the same place.

Thanks for any advice before I dive in.

I run mine around 3600 and 3900 all the time. My cruising speed is about 21 knots (25MPH) and its at 3800 RPM. I do notice she doesn't like for me to take her over 4100. She'll do it, but she sounds upset...LOL.

I don't know if this will help, but on my 2002 the shower sump pump is under a hatch that is smack dab in the middle of my cabin on the floor. The hatch is about 4' x 18" and its intended for extra storage. ON the aft most part of this compartment is a box abot 18" x 12". That is the shower and A/C drain basin and sump pump.

Pull up the mattresses in the aft cabin. Panel there. Easy access...

Thanks, that was going to be my guess. Peeked in today and lots of water down there. I am guessing that when this fills up due to a failed pump that it must go into the bilge.

Lotsof current threads on sump pumps. Guess I am due.

There is no sump in there, and no holes to bilge.

Makes sense that there are no drain holes or there would not be standing water down there. I am going to pump it out and get to the root of the problem tomorrow. So if the shower sump goes south and you do not catch it it will flood that area as mine has. Seems a backup would be in order by design as in the main bilge.

Help with GPH Burn!
Im very frustrated that my boat is getting such a terrible GPH burn. I have a B&G Engine Network Gauge that monitors fuel burn straight out of the engine's computer port. I bought the boat new in 2000 and used it for 6 years exclusivley. During that time I went on many trips and always burned between 22-24 GPH running at 3600RPM doing ~ 20kts. The boat was then leased out for 5 years and I just got her back the end of last year. Now after I've fixed the boat up to make her enjoyable to use again, the boat is burning 34-38GPH at 3800-4000 RPM running 17-18kts.
Over the winter I've had the props conditioned. The mechanics have been all over the engines. I know they say older boats get heavier, but I had a surveyor check the boat prior to getting it back and the hull has no wetness or moisture.
First question for you 310 Inboard Captains ... What RPM at what SOG providing what GPH Burn?
Second Question ... what can I check?

After some drive work, I found that a previous owner 'tinkered' with the gearsets in my bravo 3 out drives...

Trying to get an idea for what max RPM you guys see on a 5.7 EFI w. Bravo 3, and what speed/RPM combos.

I'll see about 26mph at 3200 RPM (which seems to be where the boat is happiest) and a max WOT of about 4200 vs. the 4800 it says on the engines.

I have a 22P props on, and a bravo 3 with an upper is a 2:0, 27/32 and the bottom a 2.43 - a 13/24. 'Stock' per Sea Ray is a 2:00:1 and a 24P prop. Sea Ray moved the 1999 to a 2:00:1 and a 22P prop... (same engine/horsepower) and a 4800 max RPM.

I managed to get my gauge and switch panels changed over the weekend.
Here is some before and after pictures. I don't think it is necessary to tell you which is which.

Little by little things are coming together.
Here is the new 24" TV mounted and the new front bunk coverings. (wires will all be hidden when done)
Also added images of the beginning of the stripe removal and buffing job.
New canvas should be done this week. Finish engines and should be ready to go. It has been a long summer's job.

Looks great. I have a 19" flat screen with built in DVD that is mounted to the locker door. It swings out when you open the door. The little shelf below yours is still exposed and where I keep my dish receiver and FM modulator for piping the TV audio through the stereo system.

Looks Good Bob......very nice.....

Mike,
I considered doing the same but, I wanted the bigger screen and more important I did not want to lose the cabinet space.
I still have enough room under the TV for the receiver.
Bob
