Official (1998-2002) 310 Sundancer Thread

I was down at the boat yesterday...thanks guys for the advice on removeing the forward bulkhead. Very simple...the speaker grills are a snug fit, if you put some pressure on the side with a flat tip screw drive and push some pressure on it while prying out, they come out without to much jostling. Se the screws behind the speakers. Will plan on replacing my mirror in the next few weeks.

Looking forward to updates on your progress. I need to replace my mirror as well.

Has anyone experienced a lose back rest on the campaion seat at the helm? The bolts that go through to the storage area under the seat are tight. The problem seems to be within the back rest. Just wondering what I'm up against with this repair.

Thanks!

View attachment 24850I have the same issue. I didn't know the seat had these bolts below it. I will check it out this weekend, hopefully my problem is that there lose. If not were in the same boat.... Thank for the tip.

We just replaced our tan cockpit cover, bimini, sunshade on our 310 with black.

Anybody want the bimini and/or sunshade? (fore/aft of the arch as noted below)

  • They have a little mildew on them underneath, but are un-torn and I'd guess they'll clean up ok.
  • Likely original to 2001, but have been in the sun only the last 3 seasons.
  • Not up for grabs is the cockpit cover. We are keeping that for storage.
I was going to toss them since the snaps probably wouldn't line up for anyone, but I thought I'd ask.

(yes, I know the starboard rope is (was) wonky on the cleat )

I would Love them! Email sent. Very generous of you.

All yours brother.

PM or email me your address and I'll get them in here and boxed up to figure out freight.

Shouldn't be very much.

Do you want/need the valances (zippers) too? I think I have them.

Take it easy.
Chris

Woo hoo!!

Thanks! PM sent, but I got an error message at first. Did you get it?

Also, I would love the zippers.... This is quite nice of you!

^^ Agreed.

Way to young. I turn 46 this summer and it's not lost on me that I can't assume to be around.

Live it up Gentlemen.

So sorry to hear this. Life is short, you gotta live while your living. You just never know...

Hello 310 crowd,

I am looking at getting back on the water shortly and I am looking at some 310's in the 1998-2002 range. 1 has the 350 Mag MPI Horizon, a few have the straight 350 Mag MPI, and 1 has the 5.7L 260 HP engine. All have V drives. I am thinking I should avoid the 5.7 260 HP boat.

What the opinions on the engines? What is the difference between the Horizons and the other 350 Mag MPI. I have read where it seems that the best running for the 310 is about 3,400 RPM @ about 20 gals per hour.

I am just wondering about the power overall for the weight of the boat? Another option is to move up to a 330/340 with the 7.4's. I am planning on using the new boat on Lake Michigan also. Would there be a big difference ride wise between the 310 and a 330?

Anything in particular I should look out for when checking out these boats?

Steve

I would recommend the 340... You will get about the same running GPH even with the larger engines.. and MUCH more room. Wish I went with that boat in the beginning.

If you get a horizon engine on the 310 ...

make sure that you check that the water ingestion problems have been fixed and have the compression checked and mapped in ALL cylinders. If the middle two are low .. that means water ingestion and the engines need replacing. Mercruiser did this for many here for free.

Avoid the smaller engine.

In whatever boat you choose.. Sit / lay down on the beds (all of them) not just for a second .. take a few minutes and try to get comfortable .. Get into your sleeping position WITH a partner... Stay there for a while .. The 310 does not have a lot of room on the beds... it looks like a lot, but nope... I had to remove the "back rest" cushion from my front bed because there simply was no room up front. See my previous posts...

Otherwise, the boat is great.. It has the best u-shaped seating out back for parties of any boat that size... The boat is very reliable. Also, a custom camper-back is required if you plan to spend time on it over periods of duration.

Enjoy!

I am in the process of replacing everything at the helm...already replaced the dashboards but can't seem to find replacements for the black panels below the "Windlass Remote" and the "Trim Rockers". Could have them made, but was hoping for something easier.

not that, but considered having the top of ours Rino Lined.

had p u bed done and fellow did a great job on it. liked the non slip texture when wet.

didn't follow through, :smt089 as getting boat to fellow was to much trouble

I just installed SeaDek on my swim platform. Boat Too Small, check your PM.

Does anyone have their v berth mirror cracked. I purchased the boat and it has a slight split right in the middle, interestingly enough, saw another 310 with the same. Wonder if this was a defect or a hard slam down causing this to happen.

I am thinking of replacing, but concerned about messing with the interior vinyl...

Any thoughs....

When we saw our 2002 310 in the showroom (in 2009) for the first time the mirror had a crack going across it. The salesmen said he didn't know how long it had been there or what caused. We ended up buying the boat and they replaced the mirror before we took possession.

I sold my 240DA and upgraded to a 1999 310DA this January and dropped it in the water May 1st in Northern Michigan due to good weather. We love it. When it arrived we completely stripped it from the graphics to the hardware and not only repaired but replaced a lot and upgraded items. Did away with the "Sea Ray Swoosh" graphics on the side and went with Black and Gold single stripes. Also did the pillow topper out of memory foam with a down 1" feather bed on that, works great and we have slept on it a half dozen times already. We removed the old style tv and installed a retractable arm with a flat screen TV in that space to fit flush against the opening, then built a small wooden "box" that mounted on the swivel for stuff. Screwed the swivel solid and now acts as a drawer. Bought new carpet from snapincarpet.com (these people rock and the even made me a custom head carpet). Also got hatch covers which are great to keep sunlight out and privacy when sleeping. Put some stainless latch handles on the transom locker and some Dridek for the bottom of the locker. Went through both engines with new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, filters, replaced impellers on seawater pumps and new water pumps on engines cuz old ones showed signs of leaking. Removed Outdrives and replaced seals, bearings and bellows, new outdrive oil, repainted outdrives and new stickers off eBay, reinstalled and look great. New batteries on sale at NAPA after reading Lakeland boating and numerous advice about sticking with normal marine batteries instead of AGM or other new types. Replaced all the screens in the portlight windows (advice here if you want it sometime). New RUBBER window seals from Taylor Made (replaced the foam junk), installed a new Fusion MSIP700 Stereo with a wired remote and 4 new speakers, awesome sound with no Sub or amp (next year), and Sirius Satellite Radio installed with new antenna on the radar arch (very nice), and the most expensive was new canvas. Went with a factory front with the glass from great lakes boat top (awesome to deal with), and had a custom rear 6' overhang canvas top with a minimal slope aft curtain with windows and screens and a doorway, this turned out awesome and a shout out for Larry and the crew at Grand Traverse Canvas. Recaulked all seams and the rub rail. I know I did a lot more but this comes to mind, a total of 257 hours of work includes a complete strip polish/rubout and several coats of liquid wax brought the boat literally to new. Oh yeah, had some custom sun pads made for the front that snap down, simply awesome. SO, if you have any questions...feel free to ask away, I feel like I know it pretty well but I am learning every day! Good luck and welcome to the 310 club!

I'm not sure if I can call this "Official" or not, but there doesn't seem to be a specific general thread about this model boat.

This Saturday I'm trading in my 2000 260DA on a 2000 310DA; here's the specs on the new boat:
350 Mag Bravo 3's, tan camper canvas, GPS, etc etc etc. Everythng seems pretty standard on these boats. No Radar, possibly adding this next season if it's needed (and $ permits).
Will most likely be adding a genny - we plan on using this boat a lot, and sleeping on the hook a lot. It's got the white interior, with light wood accents. I'd prefer the darker cherry wood interior, and dark canvas, but this boat comes from a seriously anal-retentive previous owner who really took great care of her. So i'm trading minor aesthetic issues for a more reliable and mechanically sound boat.

Any advice, opinions, thoughts on these boats?

Thanks in advance,
Keith

How about some pictures of all of your hardwork. I have also taken off all the graphics on my 1998. about to install the boot stripe but would like to see yours first. same with the TV mount. I have allready bought the mount but am curious about the box or drawer you mentioned.
Thanks
Bob
