Official (1998-2002) 310 Sundancer Thread

thank you articspud

i did look at the garmin web sight. lots to choose. nice to have a idea of what to start looking for.

i am the opposite of a computer nerd. we get along good with the rino 130's and e tract legend we have now but there 10 years old. i knew there would be better+easy to use stuff.

i hate having something on the boat that doesn't have a use.

i see your in gig harbor. one of gerry and my dreams, is to try the inland passage (is this the proper name) to alaska when she retires. thats a few years if the future holds, and to be honest, i haven't looked much into what it would take.
do you think our 310 could make a passage like that?

we have a lot of time on inland lakes but the only time on salt water was back east with my brother in law on long island sound. form that, i did realize we have much to learn.

thanks much, garry

I would go with the Garmin 740. Its touch screen and easy to operate. Did I mention its easy to operate!!!

thanks ardeprint; all input and opinions are a great help.

NEED TO K I S S:smt021

thanks for the operating coment:smt038

I think that this is the right place for this question... How do I replace my cockpit sink. It is cracked and looks awful. Is the only thing holding it in place is the caulking. I found a stainless sink that would fit but wonder where to start this job. Thanks for any information.

The sink is held in by nothing but sealant. Pry it up and you will see the drain hose attached to the bottom. Don't know what else to say ...

Both engines have new impellers, thermostats and all hoses have been cleaned and inspected.

Both engine is running well, but (IMO) the port is a bit high in temp 175 -185. Its stable and does not fluctuate. This engine always ran a bit hotter, but I don't recall if it was this hot. It could be a bad sensor or guage, or perhaps this is a normal temp range????

Infrared thermometer readings match starboard engine which runs at 175 on the guage. At the thermostats Port is at 170 +/- 5 (actually both are).

These guages are not very good to begin with!!!

Maybe I'm just getting paranoid?!?!??!

There could be a build up of "crud" in the water jackets, especially if it's raw water cooled. Flushing may help.

I have flushed the system before. Maybe there is a better way or chemical. I use the flushing kit and a garden hose.
1) Anyone using something special when flushing. 2) What proceedure do you use.

have you thought of taking a 2 jumper wires and taking loose the sender wire on each motor. then crossing jump wires from one sender to the other.

this would be a simple test to tell you its sender, wiring related or real difference in temps.

i read like they are the same with a infrared temp sensor? the pix look like about the same to me

Yes I know... The pictures look the same, but there is a slight difference. I guess going 20 knots on a moderate chop contributed to a photo with a slanted angle.

Hi everyone
I'm new to this site but not to boating. I have a 99 310 w/ 350 v drives.
This afternoon the fiberglassed block that the steering cylinder mounts to separated from the hull stringers.
I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if so how did they repair it?
Is this something that I should contact searay with?
Thanks

I have recently had trouble getting a fix on my Raymarine RL70. From everything I've read, the Raystar 120 battery has probably failed.

I have two questions:

1. Has anyone tried the technique of manually entering the boat's position in longitude and Latitude during start up? How do I do that?

2. Has anyone installed a Raystar 125 on a 310? My boat is a 2001. If it is not too difficult to pull the new wiring I may attempt it myself.

When we had our RL70 it took forever to get a fix....but we did finally.....since i upgraded to the C90W It gets the fix very fast

Do you ever get a fix with the RL70?

I have had the same problem with our RL70. I find that if I turn it on before we leave the dock it's fine for a long time but once we go under a bridge or some other obstruction it loses its fix. The only way to get it back is to slow the boat down, almost to nothing, and then it will pick the fix up again.

I'm looking at getting an iPad to use for GPS.

I have gotten a fix in the past but it took a long time. I haven't had the chance to completely power the system down to see if I can get it to work again. I am thinking of trying the ipad for a second source.
I found a replacement gps antenna made by evemore model se320 that they claim is a direct replacement for the Raystar 120 and 125. The rl70 seems very tedious to input a route so if the ipad works I may abandon putting more money into the rl70.
Has anyone mounted the evermore unit? It costs about half of the Raystar 125. They are listed on ebay for around $160.
I ordered a Bad Elf unit for my ipad to see how that works. It appears to give Navionics a good fix without the need for 3G service. That should buy me some time to figure out if I want to replace the antenna for the rl70.

I replaced my Raymarine stuff with new Garmin. I installed the 5208 chartplotter, GMR18HD radar and the GSD22 sounder. I could not be happier with the Garmin product. It is easy to use and seems bullet proof.

Yup! That was my thinking also, to go with Garmin... but went with Raymarine anyway......Raymarine C90W to me is not easy.....

Had a chance to get to the boat yesterday. I shut down all power to the entire boat then restarted the electronics. The GPS picked up 8 satellites within a minute and gave me a fix. I still need to take it out on the water and see if it loses the fix while in motion. If not, I will probably try to make it through this season and work on it in the fall when it gets hauled out for winter. Thanks for everyone's help.
