Official (1990-1993) 270/290 DA thread

I pickeed up the boat at Powell for the annual winter migration to Phoenix a couple weeks back and found the vent window had been shattered. Not sure what happened and of course no one at the storage yard can help, so I'm in need of a new vent window, any ideas?

I believe that is plate glass isn't it? Can you just get it at a glass shop? I will measure mine and take some detailed pics if it will help.

Thanks Quint, I will try locally if you or someone could take some pictures and measurements that wouyld be great. It shattered like an automotive window, tiny parts - millions of them. So maybe its safety glass, looks tinted also.

Standby..........

I will get you pics and measurements in a few days. I went out climbed up under the boat cover with my camera. It took one pic and died.....low battery.

Which vent hatch?....Top or Side?...Large or Small Hatch? My 270 is still uncovered in it's carport, Mike.

He said "vent window" so I am assuming the glass in the center of the windshield that opens.

Did not even thing of that!....Glad it was not the windshield...that could be hard to replace, Mike.

Wow my boat is dirty! So here is what I got:

14 3/8" tall

17 1/8" wide

Here are pics of power vent motor holes (do you have a power vent?)

Thanks quint, I do have the power vent, so I appreciate the extra info, it would have ben impossible without this info to replace the window! Don

I recieved a drawing back today from a glass fabricator here in Denver for the power vent window glass. I remember that my window had little tabs on either side that swung out to hold the glass in the closed position. Does this ring a bell ?

Yes two holes in lower part of window for them. I left them out of my post because mine just have bolts in them and I didn't know what the hell they were for!

Thanks Dave, I will forget about the side latches, they were broken anyway - $128 for the glass - anyone know if the glass is 3/8 or 1/4"?

You can send me the bill Jerry, can't say it will get paid.

Hopping for some good Idea's what to do with this headliner that I dislike. I have most of the mid cabin done with white vinyle (how every you spell that), Some of the glue I used wasn't very good, like I supected. Must use the "heavy glue". Had to do some touch up on that, Looks really nice. But to do the whole cabin would be a lot of work and some good glue so you knew it would stay up in all locations.

I'm thinking about changing my hitch on the trailer. It is too short right now, but needs it short to get it in the barn. May make one that telescopes or two tungs. Basicly a 3X6 tube on the trialer and a 2x5 tube that is movable or removable. Something like that. I would pull better and I could put the camper on the truck if I need to. That maybe a winter project

I have the Hitch made for the trailer and old one cut out. I used 1/4x4x6 for the out side tube and 1/4x3x5 for inside tube. I took about 70 pounds out and putting in about 220 pounds. I’ll be able to extend this out more than 5 feet. I'll probably run it at 4 feet out, that will give me 4 1/2 feet engagement of the two tubes. I have about 20 to 30 thousand clearance on the shims pads between the two tubes, hopefully the sage won't be noticeable. I should get it welded in the trailer today

Bigblock,
Any chance while your working on the trailer you could get the thickness of the front power vent window? Should be 1/4" or 3/8" Thanks Don

Don,
I would have, but the batteries are out of my boat and I can't open it to get a thickness measurement!

Don, I'll have to see if I can get to it, Boat is tarped off My boat does not have a power window. It maybe different for some dumb reason.

Got it welded in. Needs paint and wiring done.
