Official 1980's Weekender/Sundancer 300 thread

We moved the boat to the port of South Haven. It's just south of where we were on Lake Michigan. I've never seen that before with photobucket and know tons of ppl use it on this site, myself included and have no idea why that happened?? There is a chance your breaker switch could be bad. Those do go bad over time. If its not there is a dead short somewhere. I don't have the lights under the gunwales so I can't help with those. As far as the short goes, if the switch isn't bad the next thing would be to isolate which fixture is shorted out. This can be done by disconnecting one of the wires from the fixture and then turning the switch on. If it stays on while one of them is disconnected, that fixture is shorted. If it trips with both disconnected I would suspect the wiring is shorted somewhere in the arch. In that case I would fish a new power wire to them and just re-wire.

The one under your gunwales are on the same switch, mine also have a switch on the fixture. If it is one of the lights in the arch just skip finding the short and run new wire, while you are working on them switch to LED fixtures

Thanks a bunch for the compliments! Floor is hardwood Teak and Holly. It was glued to the floor and is from Tiara Yachts. My brother in law is the flooring supervisor for them and did the floor using scraps and run overs from them. We used regular household paint and rollers. As far as prep all we did was thoroughly clean the walls. Went on and covered great in is holding up great! It is amazing how much it not only modernized, but also brightened up the cabin. Post some pics of your boat when you get a chance. I'd love to see some new ideas!!

I will be posting pictures soon. I am having the boat buffed this week and it should look much better.

Can't wit to see it! Mine needs a good buff and wax but at this point I'm gonna wait until she comes out for the season.

I got mine out again today. Took my wife and 6 of her out of town girlfriends out for the day! It ran flawlessly again. My little case of buyers remorse is just about gone!! I hate to think of the fuel burn, but it purred nicely at WOT of about 4600! First time with the plotter/sounder too. I was worried the prop wash would mess up the readings at speed, but no issues at all. I mounted the transducer between the prop pockets just to the right of the drain plug. Haven't routed the cable yet, though. A little nervous about taking a hole saw to the transom. I need a 1" hole to get the plug through, but then it's just a cable. How do I seal it properly? Or is there a better way? Can put it just below the swim platform out of sight, but it will get washed every time I come off of plane?? Do you guys have thru hulls or how is yours routed?

Seal any holes with 3M 5200, great stuff. Not sure exactly what you're trying to install but do you have to go through the transom or can you go through the bottom of the hull in the engine compartment?

The cable for the transom mounted depthsounder transducer. I assume drilling above the water line is always better than below.

Yeah, my preference would always be to drill above but obviously that isn't always an option. If you take your time and seal up everything really well with 5200 you shouldn't have a problem.
I always fill the hole and coat the screws (both the threads and under the head) with 5200 and let the excess ooze out. Once things are mounted and tight you can use a little acetone to remove the excess adhesive from the surfaces.

Got the new letter ordered for the boat name and port location. With the new canvas I'm changing the color scheme of the boat, so the lettering needed to change. The next thing I wanna tackle is replacing the bow pulpit. Have any of you with the same model ever tackled this or removed it? Not really sure where to start. From some responses I got from another thread, there's was bolted in through the anchor locker. Anyone else with the same boat as me able to confirm this?? Any help is appreciated!

Shaun, I will go down to the boat late tomorrow and see what I can. I replaced all Nav lights yesterday evening and forgot to cut the batteries so I need to cut the charger off and check things out.

Sounds great, thanks!!

They are bolted through, look really close at the wood grain on top to locate bungs and crefully drill the center out with a small bit,try not to hit the screw heads then put a screw in the hole and pop the bungs out .Next hang your head upside down for a while with one arm and a wrench in the locker.take 4 or five advil and have a few beers to relive the aches in your upper body.

I'm on the boat now, all I can see is the screws on the top side. Use a brass wood screw to pull the plugs and do it by hand (no drills) the locker hinge needs to be undone and the wiring for the windlass. That looks to be it

Thanks guys! I am planning on getting to the boat this next weekend so I will take all of your observations and see if mine comes off the same way. Thanks again!!

Anyone have any idea as to where I can find these plastic warning signs? Like the one on my transom door, and the ones on my helm and stern?

I've seen them on eBay in the past, so check there. Another option is to bring them to a local sign/trophy place and have them make new ones. They would be very inexpensive to have made.

Thanks, I've redone my transom door and refinished all the teak trim work. Only to look at that faded red plastic warning tag. None at the helm can be read, if I'm gonna do one, I might as well do them all.
