Official 1980's Weekender/Sundancer 300 thread

Hey Guys,

I've been lurking on here for awhile. I verbally committed to buying a 89 300 WE today! Will take delivery end of next week or so (its coming from out of state.) Looking forward to picking up some ideas and sharing info and pix. Btw, Shaun, your boat looks great!

Next he is making me matching hatch covers, then I think the canvas is done! My A/C fresh water pump went out on me and is being replaced tomorrow. They are also recharging it so it should be good and cold!! It's always something....

He did a nice job! Those covers really help to keep the cabin much cooler. Rain coming in for the next 3 days so I'm gonna work on my radar scanner ( the drive motor stopped working) the motor runs about $30 a new dish $1300! When you did the floor did you remove the seats and go under the cabinets? Could you post some shots of up near the V berth?

Boxerdogty, welcome to 300's. You will find many great ideas and solutions. Post some shots of her when you can.

That sucks about your radar! Much like my AC unit!! I did not remove the cabinets to do the floor and I will get some more shots of the V berth this weekend.

Trying to find an old one for parts, I was told the board may be bad as well. Might just end up with a used 4kw antenna. Rained out of boating today, work tomorrow. Might make the effort to go late and at least have a beer or two

My canvas is very much like yours except in Navy.
The differences are that my window opening in the back is a little larger and instead of glass it is screen with a canvas flap that covers it and can be rolled up out of the way when you just want to use the screen. It started with velcro holdng it down on both sides and the bottom. When the velcro got tired I had it replaced along the bottom, but had zippers installed on the sides instead. Being able to get some air flow in there through a screen is nice.
The other thing I did was had an extra set of side windows made up, but instead of the glass on them I had screens sewn in. I leave them on during the hotter months so it doesn't become an oven under the dark colored canvas. The ones with the plastic glass go back on when it gets cool out.
The hatch covers are a great idea! I just replaced mine a month or so ago. I leave them on almost all the time. They really do keep the cabin a lot cooler.
I don't have the canvas over the transom door, but I do like the way it looks on your boat. What I do have is a double zipper section lined up with the door so I can just roll up that piece to go in and out if I want. I don't use it often, but it does come in handy on rainy days.

I love those ideas. Can you post a pic of the side curtains. I'm going to be replacing mine this season and with the hard top the more air flow the better

I'll try to take and post them this week. In the meantime; they are exactly the same size and shape as Shaun's (except in navy blue). I still have the ones with the plastic (glass) windows in them, but I also have the ones with the screens for use in the heat of summer.
If you only have one set you probably don't want them to have screens, but if you can swing two sets like I have the screens are great!

I will have to replace all of my side curtains. Just seems to be a good time to do both

I'm restoreing an 1980 SRV300 Weekender and I'm looking for the covers that go over the exhaust on the side of the boat near the water line. Anyone have any ideas on how to hind them?

I love the side curtain screen idea! Think I'll call my canvas guy tomorrow and get him on it!! That's why I love this forum!!!

My Weekender doesn't have any covers over the exhaust so I'm not sure what you're talking about...

I agree, mine doesn't have covers, and I'm looking around at the six other classic Sea Rays on my dock, none have them

Hey any one have a problem with the throttle backing down while on plane? My starboard side does and it is a pain to keep up with,i rode about 85 miles on vacation one day and it only takes a little finger pressure to keep it still but 3 hrs later my finger was aching pretty good.Is there a adjustment on the lever ,or is the spring too tight?Glen

I believe there is a way to adjust the tension on the throttles but have never done it. I know of you pop the trim cover off the top there a 4 screws that will release the whole throttle mechanism from the helm. That should give you good visibility to see any adjustments that are possible.
