Official 1980's Weekender/Sundancer 300 thread

You may want to put some aluminum plates or big fender washers inside to spread the load and avoid high point loading forces at each bolt.
I do have some good size washers, but bigger is always better. That's a great idea! I just worry that I'm crushing something that shouldn't be crushed!!

Scorpio, I did replace mine years ago when the old plastic one cracked. There isn’t much play in those lines (wires)

BTW, I did mine in stainless. I didn’t want to do that job twice

They did. I also bedded the screw and assembly. Knowing now the problem was elsewhere. I was getting drips from the area.

I just finished replacing the power inlet with a stainless Marinco unit. The cord is now tight in the fitting with no wiggle.
I put an IR gun on the back side of the old receptacle while pulling 25 amps and it read almost 200 degrees! I couldn't keep my hand on it. Also, main breaker was 145.
I replaced the 10 gage lead in wire along with the receptacle just in case, also to give me more slack to work with in the future if needed.
After replacement, at 26 amps of draw, the inlet temp is 99 degrees (ambient temp is 88 right now) and breaker temp is 90. I noted some brown discoloration on one of the prongs in the old unit, wire looked fine but I replaced it anyway. Took almost 4 hours total including r/r the cockpit side panel and drilling the screw holes bigger in the new ss housing to accommodate the #10 screws of the old unit. SS is a pain to drill.
Fishing the new wire took the longest at about 1 hour.
BTW boat is in the water so had to do it while tide was right so I didn't have to lay on my belly to reach, 6 ft tidal range here.
Glad I did the job.

Mine had dried out and split. I wish I had gone the same way you have done and replaced the wires

Hello Everybody, I am happy to see this forum is still going. We are enjoying our 4th Sea Ray. We have had 240, 290 and 340 Sundancers. Now we are loving our '87 300 Weekender. Raw water cooled 270HP Crusader 5.7 direct drive inboards. I have a quick question. I don't see strainers on the engine water supply lines. There is a sea cock shut off valve (the kind with the wingnut on one side and the lever on the other). Beyond that there is no strainer that I can see. Is this normal? Am I looking in the wrong place? Thanks so much.

Follow the hoses from the seacock. It should lead you to a strainer

on my 86 300 Sundancer, my hot water runs slow. I checked the cross-over valve and it's open. Cold water runs well. Any suggestions?

Good evening CSR members. On the post above, I found the problem. The cross-over was not completely open, DUH. Anyway I am about to winterize the fresh water. Am I correct that the first gallons of solution goes into the hot water tank first and you should shut the cross-over before continuing to add more?

I don’t use any pink in the fresh water system. I disconnect the lines then open the all the cabin connection, the water drain into the bilge. Then I connect my air compressor and blow all the lines out. Be sure not to forget the valve that you connect for dock water

I appreciate the input but I don't own a compressor. I have always used pink. The last two years it seems that I used so much. I was wondering the excess went into the hot tank?

There are a lot of folks that use pink in the tank. When I purchased mine someone had used it but left it in there way too long. My tank and system stunk the entire first season.

I come out of the water very soon for a cleaning, them back to her slip. After that I guess I will start following in your footsteps.

Pulled the bot today for winter and my anodes are GONE!
All 4 trim ram zinc are gone, only the studs remain. The anode on the cav plate, port is 70 percent gone, starboard IS gone, just the bolt remains. The two zinc screw caps are al out totally dissolved and the 2 pound hanging zinc fish I use is nothing but a nub. My tab zinc are worn but not abnormally. I don't see any drive damage but WTH happened? I've never had zinc burn off this bad.
6 months slipped in salt water.
I guess the zincs did their job but why so much wear?

I had a battery go flat and charger went off on over temp. That was in early Sept. Hanging zinc looked fine then.

I had a slip neighbor for a couple of months in an old 1930s wood work boat, only unusual thing all season.

Nobody else in marina reported heavy wear, I'm perplexed.

If you're on shore power, it sounds like they may have something wonky with their grounding, at least with that power mast.

Scorpio, somewhere back over the years you rebeded your windshield. Well it’s about that time for mine. Question, the windshield seems to be split into three sections. The two side glass sections and then the windshield. Is that really the case? Is it a PITA to get things realigned once you’ve pulled the side wings? Mine needs new glazing and bedding.

I never pulled it totally. I pumped 4000UV into the screw holes and that stopped my water ingress issue.
I'm interested in this issue myself. I'd like to pull it and rebed. I think it's a two man job just to prevent damage.
