Official 1980's Weekender/Sundancer 300 thread

I know some of yaw'll replaced the old rollers in the cabin entry.

How did you adjust the left side roller? There seems to be no possible way to get to it.

I just had my entry door completely out and removed and serviced both sets of rollers. I'm not sure I understand your question because both sets of rollers were installed the same way. I didn't see any difference between left and right.

Oh wait - you're leaving the door in place. Yeah, I see no way to get to it without removing the door.

No, I have removed the door to get the old rollers out they were shot. There are the upper rollers and the lower. Right and left corners on the lower right corner (once the door is back in place) How do I adjust the roller so that it's even? Or do I even try to?

I still need to clean the tracks and wax them, then clean it all up. I'd love to get the frame powder coated but that's a bit over the top.

I see. There's an adjustment screw and I just made sure both of mine where in the same place. Roughly half-way in. I don't know that it does a lot to actually adjust the height of the roller.

I would have love to have the frame powder coated, but that's just overkill and I need to spend the money in other places. So I painted my frame both on the door and on the boat. It won't last as long as powder coating, but it looks good for now.

What is the name of the canvas company everybody says has the old canvas patters?

I never found anyone that went back to the 80's for canvas patterns.

Has anyone installed A/C? I plan on keeping my '87 300 SunDancer and would like to have A/C at the dock (no generator). Any experience would be appreciated.....

Great Lakes Boat Top. Their "get a quote" tool goes back only to '93; I sent an online inquiry and got the same answer, no patterns for 80s models.

Might be worth contacting Quint4 (thecanvasmedic.com) in case he's done work on any classics.

Thank you T, I will take time to email later

H2, this is a couple with a newer SeaRay, I just couldn't remember last night

Gck,
Have you considered a "drop in" hatch a/c? They're heavy but easy to take off the deck and leave on the dock while you're out boating.

My first cruiser came with one, I still have it if you're interested. I believe its a Cruisair 5000btu model.

**Winterizing**

Hey guys, what is your standard procedure for winterizing your Weekender or Sundancer? I'm considering leaving mine in the slip all winter. In the Carolina's the lake doesn't really freeze, but we do have some 20 degree over nights. Should I invest in a bilge heater? Do I drain the freshwater system and vacuuflush?

IMO, a bilge heater is an excellent investment. Combine that with sealing your vents and you and your insurer should both be happy. We keep heat going in the cabin because we stay on the boat at the slip most winter weekends and want the convenience of fresh water and flushing, but plenty of other posters do what you suggest and winterize the interior systems. The caveat to a bilge heater is frequent or lengthy power outages during prolonged cold spells. Although science may say important parts won't freeze as long as the water stays above a certain temp, I don't live that close to the edge....when daytime temps were in the teens and twenties and we had surface ice in the slips, I was VERY glad for the peace of mind a bilge heater gave me.

I too use a bilge heater but I do winterize my systems. We get ice around here and it will and can take the power out. The big thing is to be very sure you block those vents. They let the cold air in and any heat you have out. Be sure to fog the engines. Like Tgirl I keep the cabin heated but I did drain the freshwater system.

P.S. I've seen discussions of block and pan heaters, too, but don't know anyone who uses them so can't help with any real life pro/con details. Just thought I'd mention so you can explore the variety and see what fits your needs and budget.

Can i kindly ask: what size flat screen did you install? 19 or 24? I thought about the same idea to mount to the side of the closet with a Z bracket not to take of space. Thanks.

So, I guess my next question is, are you using an external antenna for reception for the flat screen? Thanks. Sorry if I'm getting ahead of myself, I started at the last page of the 300 thread and worked my way back to page 65 so far!

I wanted a tv my girls could see from the salon berth. So I have a 27" in the same location your thinking of on a Z mount. I use a Velcro strip to keep it in place while underway. The antenna thing is a problem for me. I'm under a metal roof. I use a Image antenna that works sorta. My neighbor took one of the old pancake antennas and modified it, then placed his Image in it, I worked out great for him.

Upgraded my homemade vent covers from the foam noodles I'd used the last couple of years....didn't really want to drill for snaps/canvas covers yet.

That's interesting, what are they made from and how are they attached? I'm guessing they are tied on with the strings?
