Official 1980's Weekender/Sundancer 300 thread

Thanks, that's the view I needed! You have the style frame cross members I wanted but dif mot have. The style I had were arches and as you adjusted the bunks wider, the tops of bunks angled in more, causing alignment issues.
BTW what is the weight rating and model number of your trailer tntitan?

Cool, glad that helped. The trailer is a something like a 12,500 trailer, but it has a carrying capacity of 10,800 and that's how Venture sets the model number. So it's something like a VBT-10800.

I need some help finding a replacement strainer basket. The strainer under my steps (I haven't followed the hoses yet - not sure what it's for) has a busted basket. I've been trying to find a replacement but without any identifying numbers on the strainer or the basket, I can't find a match. The strainer is a Perko and the basket has no bottom (it's rusted out). The basket appears to have a diameter of 1 5/8 and is 4" tall. Can someone help me identify where to get a replacement?

I'm sure there are multiple sources, but I've gotten several different things from www.defender.com and they have a wide variety of strainer baskets; most listings include measurements, which is very helpful.

That strainer should supply water to the head and air conditioner.

Thanks, and I like Defender also, but I cannot find my exact dimensions on their site. I'm not sure if they don't have what I need or if my dimensions are accurate because of the slightly rotted out basket I have. I'm hoping someone can either confirm the dimensions or maybe even a part number.

I figured it did at least the A/C, but I didn't know it did both. My basket is rotted out and was just sitting in the bilge so my head and A/C are getting raw water with no filtration.

I replaced my strainer basket several years ago, and I think I got it from either Boatersland or Defender.
Can't remember how I knew which one to order, but I may have called them on the phone.
Mine is stainless with a black plastic bottom, and it's either 4 or 5 inches tall.
My guess is 4", and if that's what your measures, then that's what it probably is.
Take a look down inside there with a flashlight and mke sure the black plastic bottom of your isn't still in there.
I remember that mine came apart (bottom fell off) when I was washing it out.

Hello all. just signed up here. I have a 1987 sea ray 300 ( abandoned after hurricane sandy ) and doing a restore over the winter. the boat is in pretty good shape, all the ac/dc components work and the boat was not submerged. I do have some fiberglass work to do on one of the stringers, the wood is in good shape but the problem I'm having is keeping the hull dry. Im getting water in through the base of the arch which I pulled out and re siliconed at the attachment point. still getting water dripping in from the wire holes at the base of the arch. I didn't re silicone the aluminum trim around the edge of the arch thinking there has to be an overlap in the construction of the arch. after several hrs of light steady rain I get about 4 gal of water in the hull. any suggestions?

First, welcome to CSR.

Mine leaked at the base of the arch were the arch met the gunnel. After cleaning the area I re caulked the area and no more leak. Another big area that leaks are our blower vents.

Welcome to CSR and the classics thread, mea3pk!! Is yours a WE, a DA....?

I've been watching for leakage, too--do you mean blower vents leak because of their design with vertical openings exposed to rain/runoff? Or do you mean around the perimeter where they're sealed to the boat? I'm guessing there's no fix to the former without refitting with a different model of vent, but if it's the latter, it will be another item on my ever-growing to do list!

It's just where they are located. One is right under where the gunnel drains down the side of the boat. Water drains right into the vent then down the hose.

Ive been working on a fix every winter since I bought the boat. Whatever comes from my experiments I will be happy to share. Whatever you try remember you can't block the vent as it is the intake side of the system.

I use a piece of plastic baseboard from Lowes and duct tape them over top of the vents like a little awning. I extend it a few inches fore and aft of the vents for good measure. This works to keep water out of my bilge over the winter. As to leaking from the arch wiring holes, good luck. I get just a bit of a drip, never makes it to the bilge though. A nuisance for anything kept in the storage area under the port side on a DA.

I don't have the arch on my boat, but I rarely get water in the blower vents.
It has to be a steady rain from a direction that drives it in on an angle. As I said, in certain circumstances I do get a little rainwater in there, but not a whole lot.

Has anyone changed their 12 volt switch/breaker panel(s) on their 80's 300?
I'd like to change the one on the lower right side of the helm where the ignition switches are,
Mine has seen better days. I've found a company online that makes them up, but they want me to send them my old one to use as a template, and I'd rather not do that if I don't have to.
I was hoping to find a company that might have the template already, or someone who has changed theirs, and still has the old one that they no longer need that I could send off as a template.

I did a little poking around and that thru-hull only supplies the A/C. The supply line for the head runs aft along the starboard side, but I haven't been able to trace it yet.

Now I'm gonna have to go and check mine out, I know I have one line running to the AC but I don't remember seeing one running towards the head.

I forgot to trace those lines but I did find my oil leak. The oil hoses leading from the remote oil filter are the culprit. Hampton Marine will be replacing the hoses and possibly the filter housing.

thanks for the replies everyone. yeh i do also get water in through the blower vents. mostly on the starboard side but a good portion of that is due to the fact that the screws on the bottom of the vent that go through the fiberglass missed the holes on the inner plennum and pushed it away from the fiberglass, simple enough fix but i do think that whole setup is poor design but i can work around it for winter storage etc. this whole problem won't be "as" bad when i get the deck drains straightened out. in the coming days what ill be using for the aft deck drain tubes is a common kitchen thin wall pvc drain extension. the only thing I can find that will fit in the drain channel with a low enough profile in 1 1/2' to adequately drain off the water.

I do get water in my blower vents, but the hoses in my vent box are at the top, so I just sealed the vent box to the hull to prevent the water from running down into the bilge. I get a little water trapped in the bottom of the vent box that dries up with in a day after a rain.

So I went down and checked the hoses. Mine has one hose that feeds the AC pump. None lead towards the head.
