Official 1980's Weekender/Sundancer 300 thread

Outside of the shaft to outside 37""
Outside rudder to rudder 40"
outside tunnel to outside 52 3/4

Thanks so much. One question for clarification. Is that first measurement to the outside of the other shaft, or the outside of the boat?

Outside of the shaft to the outside of the other shaft.

my question is still the rudders and tunnels. The bunks should be to the outside or inside of the tunnels shouldn't they?

Thanks. That sounds good.

I'm not sure if the tunnels will be around the bunks or not. I'm pretty sure about 2 feet will be hanging past the bunks, so I'm not sure if the tunnels will actually come into play - or at least not very much. I'm thinking the biggest issue is the prop shafts. We'll see. My bunks are almost 45 inches apart, so I should be okay.

This week is fall break for the kids so we're taking a few days to go on a short trip and when we come back I'm going to attempt a pull out.

How much LifeSeal caulk should I get to re-seal stanchion bases and to run a bead along the rub rail? (Yep, gonna take the redneck shortcut for now since it sounds like removing/replacing cleanly would be a bear; ours is original metal.) I know I can use it for other things so it's not a problem to have a little extra....just don't need to get crazy. Think two 10.5 oz tubes will do it with some left over?

Two tubes should be more than enough.

Tgirl, skip the rub rail, it won't work. Mine still leaks and it mostly due to the upper hull and the joint with the lower hull. You'll need to remove the rail and place new rivets to tighten the joint up. It's the only thing that seems to really work

Shaun or any other 1988 300 owners. If you still have the old boot strips, are both sides of the boat the same color? Mine seem to be original to my old girl but one side is green and the other is burgundy. Did or would SeaRay do this back in 88?

Surely that's not factory. I don't have a boot stripe anymore so I can't help you. It almost sounds like someone did port for red and starboard for green.

My '89 has blue on both sides. Sounds like a PO started a replacement and never finished.

She has two strips the upper is blue the lower is green or blue

Mine are both burgundy. Dock mates 300 is green and silver but the same on both sides.

I'm sorry I didn't get measurements. I was focused on winterizing and yesterday my son got married so I wasn't around the boat.

When you put it on the trailer are you traveling with it or is it just for storage? I'd like to see how it fits and looks. Hope you get some pics.

Gorgeous shot down the hull side. Thanks, but dwna1a got me the measurements. It will be stored on the trailer (at my house) over the winter so I can work on projects. I do plan to travel with it some as well. I will share some pics once i get it loaded, but for now, here's a pic from picking it up this weekend.

And congrats about your son's wedding.

That's a big trailer!! Wow! If I did that in CT I'd need oversized permits every time I went to haul it.

I think every state requires a permit for something this wide. There's just very few that actually enforce it for weekend warrior types. Most are very strict about it for commercial haulers. I really won't have any issues locally and I'll likely only pull it out a few times a year. I'm going to look into permits for when I travel a significant distance, but I'm not sure if the permit hassle will be worth it. We'll see.

PLEEEEEASE SAY IT AIN'T SO!!!!

But I figured it might be.... :(

Yes, it's a Duramax/Allison setup with a tuner that gives 500hp and 950 ft./lbs torque. Should easily handle the 300.

Nice! Back in 2001 I had a Dodge Cummins that I did a lot to. Rebuilt trans, injectors, turbo, timing box... At one point I had about 700 at the wheels. It was so much fun to drive. I dialed it back to about 450 and it was a great daily driver. With more HP, more things break!!! LOL

Well for all those thinking of the 4 bade switch, do it if your not worried about the top end run. At 2500 and in 90' she was up and settled nicely. At 3000 she she smooth as silk and moving right along. I will post speeds tomorrow.

and by the way....stay away from the bluefish nets, I now have one wrapped around one of my new props, maybe both

I don't think I've ever felt so damn stupid. I saw one marker with a small flag and tried to miss the marker. I never saw the other marker and cut right across the top of the net. I got some of the nylon rope and a few of the floats off but I'm sure there is more under there.
