ny airshow zacks bay long island

That makes sense but, how do you measure the miles? Is it via chart or your GPS? Also, I bought boating suite when it was on sale but I have NO EFFEN CLUE how to use it! Isn't it supposed to help with this stuff?

The miles are calculated via the GPS position, It is the actual course that the boat took, which may deviate in spots from the autopilot track that the boat was following. The Boating Suite app is pretty cool and does help with logging things like fuel, maintenance, hours, distances traveled, etc. But I don't think it will store tracks.

Greg, what do you guys use to log the info? The chart plotter?

I have a PC on the bridge tied into the NMEA and Seatalk buses. Right now I am running Coastal Explorer.

I too have a master spreadsheet for hours, fuel, maintenance, etc. Every time I start or stop the engines for a trip I snap a pic of the engine displays to get fuel, hours, etc. Then I update the spreadsheet with those numbers and any other notes I may want to add.

Todd,

Any half decent chartprotter has a trip log feature (usually there are multiple logs). It'll track anything you want. For example, I use total and incremental miles. So, on each leg I can see how long it took and the total gives me the total NM traveled. If you have tri-data display it'll give you trip log, timer and other features as well. There are plenty of option on getting all the info and all you have to do is find what works best for you. Even this day in age some captains use nicely packaged paper logbook. Nothing wrong with it, as long as you have the right info when you need it.

If anybody needs pump out coming in through ji there is only on open between ji and zacks and from what I hear pump boats will not be back anytime soon. The only one open is at east marina. Heading north through jones inlet cut west through the first and only canal. Its the last marina before you go under the bridge. (Just east of the bridge)

What's everybodys plan so far according to weather. Not looking so good so far

All I can say that we're sitting here and scratching our heads by looking at the latest forecast.

I'm thinking of bailing out this weekend, the forecast keeps getting worse by the day

Boat is Waterproof :) forecast is getting challenging. So far sunday looks ok; monday better.
Stockpiling the rations tonight, so we will see....

Hmmmmm, I belive that I remember someone saying the weatherman tends to downgrade the forecast as the holiday weekend approaches. Now who was that brilliant & observant person?

The pic as of now stinks big time. I don't mind rain, I don't mind chilly temp, but for god sake a combination of everything.....rain, cold, strong winds high seas for more than 1/2 of the weekend might be a show stopper for me. It will be literally a last minute final decision for me.

Well just arrived at dune wood if. First big trip with the boat. Ran perfect. Took ammityville cut at low tide and holy crap that was scary. I was reading 1.8feet for about 200yards. But I don't think I touched at all. Scary scary scary. Once we hit GSb the wind and chop was pretty bad. Now being this is my first run I have a question I was taking waves and chop to my starboard side and the wind was out of the west south west with me traveling east. The boat was all over the place I was constantly making aggressive steering corrections. Is this normal. Wind was pretty strong I would say 20knt and waves were around 2ft. But I was just being pushed every which way even on plane at 24mph. Other than that it was a good trip.

As for sat I'm most likely out myself. Pretty upset about it but hey whatcha gunna do.

Ron, maybe we can meet up on Monday if your going to be out?

Had the beer truck come; provisions picked up. all we need is um sun?
and it would be nice if the marina had electricity.........

No power on our finger. They are working their way back from the front to the back, and since we are on J dock.... Mid June is the ETA.
Its a real PIA. Make sure you come out and play with us this weekend. Dont be a FI snob :)

Well if I don't go to Zachs Bay this weekend, maybe I can finish putting this thing in.
