cruisers net is 9 am, channel 71, The rock anchors are a great idea. Also when you get to an anchorage, look around on shore for permanent anchors with rings grouted into the rock, there are many places throughout the North Channel and Georgian Bay that have these to tie the stern to. Our picture in post 3 had our stern tied to an already there permanent rock anchor.

Rental works ;). Last 4 times we were up there were in my 42' sailboat (6' draft). We followed GLCC charts precisely and my wife was always on the bow coming into anchorages looking for those rocks that could ruin your day. FYI we had an all chain rode which came in handy during a squall in Bear Drop.

Don't have my charts handy - but it's on the north side of the channel. Pics of our last trip in our sailboat in order: Detour, Beardrop, Hotham and Eagle

What is the attraction of that cove?... It's a bit out of the way so just wondering

Like a secret place, because it's out of the way.

Everything up there is a bit out of the way! That's the whole point!

Yup - but do watch the number of boats that might be anchor there for the night. Normally it's only a doz. Several years ago we had 24 and that was way crowded - also we had a squall blow through there that same night. But that's a whole different story.

When we were there 10 years ago we shared the anchorage with 2 other boats.

FYI. Resist the temptation to swing on your bow anchor. Much better to bow anchor and stern tie to the shore. Most coves are well protected and as long as you get good bottom you will hold. What you don’t want happening is swinging into other boats or them swinging into you.

And sail boaters are notorious for only swinging on anchor and taking 10 to one plus in scope. It’s how they get privacy from power boat heathens so they can dry their Birkenstock’s and woollen ponchos.

Makes me think of a couple of them that tried to tie up the shower at a little marina I was at. The shower was not being used but one guy tried to prevent me from going in because he was waiting for his friend to get there....they shared soap he said.;)

Long Point Cove is a special place for me because of some personal reasons but it's a beautiful run back to the cove and a serene setting once there. Capture.JPG DSCF6083.JPG

If that's navy island to the west I've been there. Nice.

Careful there are some ex sailors here now that we've moved to the 'dark side'

Also as a point of clarification I've never shared soap in the shower with another sailor - except maybe my wife

That's the entrance into the cove. Navy Island would be beyond the land to the left of the entrance. I was anchored where the star is, looking north.

This is one of my favorite pictures in the North Channel (I hope it attaches). This is in Baie Finn, as you pass the old resort. Yes, that is a bear sitting on shore. However, notice the red circle painted on the rock wall ahead of the bear. Yes, that is a channel marker.
