Last year I installed Oil Mates on my the 3126 Cats and my diesel genset. I now have 200 hrs on the Oil Mates (Cat) and they have been performing as advertised. I'm sharing this because the cost of petroleum products are outrageous.

Oil Mate™, by Engineered Machined Products (EMP), is a patented advanced oil management system for diesel engines that significantly extends oil change intervals (4000 hrs) and filter life (1000 hrs) in order to decrease downtime and lengthen an engine's life span. It is an automatic oil exchange system for any diesel engine - it changes oil while the engine is running!

This system removes a small amount of used engine oil and blends it with diesel fuel to be burned during combustion. The used oil is then replaced with an equal amount of fresh oil from a make-up tank, extending oil and filter use. Oil Mate™ outperforms every competitor on the market and operates within emissions guidelines.

Oil Mate™ does not affect the engine's flow or pressure. It is not a replacement for the filtration system - it improves and works in conjunction with the oil system and can be retrofitted to your existing engine.

I know there is going to be some pros and cons out there, but if you have any questions feel free to contact me.

Keep us posted on your progress. I'd like to know how the systems turns out.

My thought is that it takes more oil to trade it out little by little than to change it all at once to get to the same, pure level. That's true unless, you concentrate the contaminants in the oil that is burned as waste. Does it do that?

But........what about moisture from condensation and combustion by products in marine engines? This system essentially ignores that and at tremendously extended oil change intervals your engines are going to collect a lot of it in the oil.

No thanks.......I'll stick with Caterpillar's recommended regimen of an annual oil change or 250 hours, whichever is first. Oil and filters are a lot cheaper than buying iron from Caterpillar.

This kind of reminds me of that "Introduction to Natural Logarithms" from Calculus and engineering school. I remember that problem of "How many times do you have to flush the toilet before you'll drink the water after someone urinates in it." If I recall, the size of the flush made a big difference... I see their tests are for a 7 quart engine and I have questions what happens when you have 8 gallons in an engine?

I'm no expert at engine oil but it just raises a lot of questions for me that would make me pass.

1. What is the effect of engine oil capacity and engine size?
2. What are the long term effects on other components like fuel injectors, pumps, turbo, etc.
3. What is the effect when using synthetic oils vs. natural?
4. What is the "real" cost savings.

I don't get the cost savings either... at $900 per side, that's a few oil changes on a DIY basis since you have to still change filters. Changing filters is the hardest part... with a Reverso, the oil change is easy.

Not to poo poo on it, but if the basic concept of this device is "the solution to pollution is dilution" then the laws of physics are such that more oil will be needed to dilute compared to a full oil change...

I would rather do a few other things like a fuel polishing system (not magnets) instead of this gizmo.

Hmm...

Hurley Marine and this company are both in Escanaba, MI...

Are they related? Is this an advertisement or a real post looking for comments?

I'm getting old... and slow... I should have seen that with all the (TM) use in the name.

oh well... ignore my previous questions/comments then.... it's pointless.

But... do any of you know how many times you need to flush the toilet before you'll drink out of it?

Exactly... And do you know how many times you need to flush the toilet before the dogs will drink out of it?

ZERO!

So if your boat/engine is a dog, this product is perfect for you.

Unfortunate - That you can't be more straight forward when posting - after you beat up Dom's Davits...

Does that mean I shouldn't kiss my dog on the lips anymore?

Wait! Let me say something nasty first before you delete it...

<deleted>

Ok... you can delete it now.

Do you guys want this deleted?

Yes...but can you just leave Gary's excellent toilet flush advise....
