I'd like some honest opinions on this brand of trailer. They seem priced well below what I've been finding from other similar types.

The one I would need I believe is this:

29' - 31' ... 12500 lbs ... $4125

Most of these aluminum trailers come in at $5,500 and up.

I suppose you get what you pay for many times but is there any reason to believe this won't work perfectly fine for storing my boat in the winter and towing it roughly 750 miles per year?

I don't need the Rolls Royce of trailers.

Haven't heard of them, but try the guy over at Pirate Marine and see what he can quote you, he seemed to be really good on price for aluminum.

I've heard of them and my buddy has experience with them. Years ago he ordered one and he got a very very good price on one. The quality was great he said and he never had any issues.

I once called Nextrail and the guy who answered was very old and crotchety. I called for pricing on a specific size. The number I got from him was totally different than what was listed online. What you need to be aware of is that various brake packages, bunk or roller options, etc will adjust the price accordingly (usually up at that). Plus they tack on shipping and they only ship when they make a run to your specific area.

I did some research earlier and I believe the trailer manufacturer 'Tow Master' is actually Nextrail under a different name. I asked Nextrail point blank and the guy totally stumbled on his words before he answered no he's never heard of them before. Funny thing was the internet listed them with the same address I believe. I have a triple axle Tow Master trailer and it appears identical to the Nextrail.

Your sig says you're from Indiana. If that's the case, there is a company in Huron, OH called 'Boatwheels' trailers. I've worked with them and they do very nice work and put out some nice trailers for a reasonable price. Their trailers also look very very similar to Nextrail (I'm wondering if they're really kits and any trailer company just buys them and puts them together?)

I have a NexTrail tri-axle trailer with brakes on all 3 axles and I used to haul my old 1988 29' Chris-Craft with twin 4.3 l. I/O without any problems.

Bill,

Have you called them and asked for the price with brakes on all axles, torrsion bars, and LED lights?

My other concern is getting a trailer that properly fits the boat. Most trailer manufactures would not make the boat to the same width as the boat (that was a big issue for me).

Plus, be carefully buying a trailer from a long distance away. It took my trailer guy three seperate tries before I was completely happy with the balance, braking, and positioning of the boat. You just don't simply buy a trailer and boat slides up without any problem.

I can shoot you some pictures of my trailer. If you look at, you will see why a good trailer costs between $6K - $7K for your size boat. Also, 750 miles is a more than a fair amount of trailering, you want to get it right!

I bought an Owens an Sons aluminum fixed bunk trailer for my 260. It fit absolutely perfectly.

I have had a dual wheel NexTrail trailer since 06. never an issue

The 290 weights about 4,000 pounds more than a 260. When you add that additional weight, it makes a big difference with trailering (most of your "error" factors get much smaller).

BTW - Over the weekend, I weighed my 2008 Ford F350 diesel and 290 on the Trailer (they are both fully loaded with supplies and fuel, I just fueled both up at the truck stop) --

ANYONE WANT TO GUESS WHAT THE WHOLE SETUP WEIGHED???:grin::grin:

I'm guessing 23,500 lbs?

We used to sell Nextrail. Nothing really bad to say about them - we stopped carrying them because their pricing started to get too high. That was four or five years ago. Maybe their pricing has come back in-line with other Al's, now?

I'm going to guess 24,200lbs?

I'll get a quote on it with the options i'm looking for. Disc brakes on all three axles, spare and mount, LEDs, center bunks.

When looking at aluminum, I would get versed in the engineering differences of a fixed-bunk versus adjustable bunk. I have a high preference for fixed-bunk.

Pete, I now tow a 310. I am not sure what would be more difficult about a larger boat. When I got the trailer for my 260, it fit the bunks perfectly with a tongue weight of 8% when pulled all the way up to the bow stop. I really liked that trailer. Now I tow on a powder coated boxed steel trailer. Also nice, but MUCH heavier than an aluminum would be, and still not rust-proof.

Also, I am not sure if you are on aluminum or not. If on aluminum, I'd say your total setup weighed out at 22.5K. If on steel, I'd say 24.5K. Maybe a touch more in each case if you load particularly heavy.

Wow....great guesses! (I think Bill was peaking at my weigh slip....).

It is an aluminum trailer, and the total for the truck, trailer and boat is 23,920 lbs :wow::wow::wow: (only 80 lbs shy of 12 tons...well, once my son climbs back into the truck, we over 12 tons).

So, next question, is how far am I exceeding Ford's recommended limits on my 2008 Ford F350 Diesel (SRW)?

I am sure you are over the ford specs, I go over them all the time with a couple of gooseneck trailers, one fully loaded is 22k by itself, it's a monster (I have an f350 with the 6 liter diesel, hauls them just fine.)

No King trailers in Ohio.

So, Nick, where does that put the loaded weight of your boat? Around 12k? Not sure what an F350 weighs or your trailer. I think I'm going to go with a Loadrite trailer from here. www.piratemarine.net

Bill, looks like you are buying from a local manufacturer. That's good! Will they build your trailer at the same width as your boat?

My F350 probably weighs around 7.5k, and my trailer is about 2.5K, which puts my 290 around 13K pounds.

Yeah, I didn't want to deal with shipping and a long distance dealer in the event I need work on it.

They seem to have the best price around here for something other than Venture trailers. I looked up close to one of those and didn't care for it much. It had leaf springs and I think I'm convinced that torsion axles are the way to go.

When you say, build to the width of my boat, what exactly do you you mean? I'll email you pics of the trailer with more details.

Stick with a 102" trailer. Might as well keep one of the two things (boat and trailer) legal.
