Ahoy mates,

Although I just became a member of this site recently, I have been an almost daily visitor since late August when I purchased a new 2006 270 Amberjack from the SR dealer who is located just minutes from my home.

First, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the creators and many knowledgeable contributors to this truly invaluable site. The number of threads related to questions that I have also had has been utterly amazing. Since the purchase I’ve been diligently reading the owner’s manuals provided and others that have been obtained, and purchasing some equipment. I would like to be a knowledgeable owner and be able to do as much maintenance as possible. Before the launch in early May I will be posting the remaining questions.

Although I’ve been boating on Lake Erie each summer for over 25 years, the AJ270 is just my third boat. I’ve owned my second boat, a Tiara Continental 2200, for 17 years. I love her dearly and it will be difficult to part with her, but she is for sale. For over five years I had been looking for the largest single engine trailerable “hybrid” boat that could be used for fishing, cruising and entertaining. I had just about given up when I noticed an ad in the local newspaper by the local dealer who was offering substantial discounts.

I really like the cockpit layout, particularly the fold up transom seat and swivel helm seat, the large amount of storage, especially in the lazarette and transom, the closed cooling system, hull color, and the great deal of standard equipment. While she is expected to meet my needs better than any other boat that I am aware of, she is still a compromise, as is the case with all boats. My preference is for classic styling, more real wood and fiberglass and less carpeting and vinyl in the cabin, and greater attention to detail. Since 90-95% of my boating is expected to be done with four of fewer people on board, I’m hoping that the engine size will not be of concern, but I’ll know better in a few months.

Although she is not equipped with a generator nor the fish package (neither are preferred), among the major options, she is equipped with heat/AC, Raymarine C-70, and windlass.

Future plans include the following. Prior to launch I would like to install four rod holders. In the fall I would like to purchase a Fisher custom winter cover and boat stands. Within a year or two I would like to install an auto pilot. In three to four years I would like to purchase a ¾ ton tow vehicle and trailer so that I can explore other areas.

I’m getting really excited and looking forward to the upcoming boating season!

Thanks again,

Seabattical,

Welcome to CSR, and congratulations on the 270AJ!

althought all boats are a comprimise, i think SR has done a great job with the AJ's. The interior is similar to a sundancer, with a nice, open aft deck. IMO, the AJ is not much of a comprimise.

Enjoy!

Gregg
