Hello all! just found this site looks great so far, lots of Searay knowledge on here. Hope everyone has a great holiday weekend!

Mike

Welcome aboard! I was just up in Ithaca on Tuesday helping a friend launch his 240DA. Beautiful area!

When you get a chance, fill out your signature with your boat/engine/trailer specs. It will help us in the future - if you have a question.

Thanks Lazy Daze! Yes it a beutiful area, I live 45 mins north of Ithaca but work at Cornell.

Hi Mike ~ Welcome to CSR

Our annual summer cruise will take us to your neck of the woods in the last week of July + the first week of August this summer. We will boat across the St. Lawrence River from our marina to Alexandria Bay, N.Y. to fuel up and start our journey west towards Clayton, Cape Vincent, etc. to Oswego. We will be 3 or 4 boats at this point in time and our final destination plans are not yet finalized. I am sure that we are open to suggestions though. After our stay in your area, we will motor back out to Oswego and head across Lake Ontario to Kingston. We will probably stay a day there and slowly cruise back east to our home port at Rockport.

Later ~ Ken

Thanks Ken! I was just up in A-bay last weekend remodeling a friends camp, talk about beautiful wow!

Sounds like a great trip you have planned, I live on Cayuga Lake about 1/2 way down on the East side , it's probably about an 8hr trip through the Erie Canal but lots to see and do for sure.Let me know if your interested in coming this way and I'll shoot you some of the must sees, marinas, wineries etc.

enjoy!

That's great because we were thinking Cayuga Lake. I'm not a wino, but my fellow boaters would really enjoy the winery tours. Any & all information will be gratefully appreciated. Golfing, marinas, anchorage sites, shopping, etc.

~ Ken

I'll get some info out to you after the holiday, but there are several wineries that can be accessed by water and 2 nine hole and (1) 18 hole courses that are located real close to the water.

Mike

Welcome. I have many fond memories of racing J-24s out of Ithaca Yacht Club during college. I recall that Cayuga is one of the finger lakes, but is it actually the middle finger?

Bastard!! Thats the trip I've wanted to do for several years. One reason we bought our 340 is to be able to do so comfortably in the next year or so. One of these days when time allows enough use to warrant ownership, I'll have a summer home near Clayton or C.V..

I grew up spending several weeks each year both in the thousand islands and on Seneca lake. Have they found the bottom of the finger lakes yet? I remember a story about a cow that drowned in one lake and was found in another several days later. Went through some underwater caves or something??

Isn't it amazing how there always seems to be local folk lore in almost every corner of the country? If it isn't big hairy bi-peds, it is now free-diving bovines. :smt043Whatever happened to "the cow jumped over the moon"??

Wilky, welcome to CSR!

Some good fishing your way. I grew up in Auburn, and spent many summer days fishing on Cayuga lake. The wife and I still have family in that area.

I will admit I don't miss the snow. Maryland is about as far north as I'm willing to live these days.

Yes we are the middle finger, but don't let that keep you all from visting!

We only make a couple of trips down to Ithaca every year, there is a lot of boat traffic down there in the summer.

Which college did you attend?

Thanks

Mike

Thanks CJ,

Yeah the winters can be long for sure but it's pretty tuff to beat the other 3 seasons on the lake.

Enjoy the long weekend!

Mike

Hey Mike,

What can you tell me about the fishing on Cayuga Lake for non-residents?

Hi Ken, you will need a NYS liscence to fish on cayuga lake, non resident 1 day is $15, 7 day is $25, here is the link........http://www.dec.ny.gov/permits/6091.html. I'll try and find some locations where you can pick them up, might even be able get one online?

Thanx Mike. I will check that out for sure. Just what is the fishing like there? What species of fish can I expect to catch there at the end of July to first week of August? Live bait, lures??

~Ken

I don't do an awful lot of fishing but friends and neighbors do, there is some really good bass, perch, lake trout(deaper waters) fishing that time of year. I'll try and pay attention to what the locals are catching & using for bait when the time gets closer.
