Hey all

Just joined, so that makes me the newb. We just sold our MasterCraft Prostar 190 and have decided to slow down and enjoy the waters in the San Juan Islands up in Washington State. We've just bought a 87 Sea Ray 265.

Looking forward to hangin here. Anything a new 265 owner should be keeping an eye out for?

Welcome Bobby
We're pretty close to one another.
One thing I'll recommend it going to "User CP" and putting your boat's info in your Signature.

Welcome! I am pretty new too...you will love this site, these folks are great.

I'm going to wait for about a week so I can get a pic of her in the water. I know it has the 454 motor and a mercrusier outdrive. I'll get accurate info and then get it into my signature.

I think I read somewhere that some of the mercruiser outdrives from that era are suspect???

Our friends have an Older 245DA (I believe it is).

I believe it's an '83 or so. He does most of his own work on it and keeps it in Anacortes. It's in pretty good shape. I think with that age, prudent inspection and service prior to running around is something you'll want to do or have done, so you can address any issues that may arise and/or be more costly later.

Just watch out for logs in the water!

You will have to be careful if you have an Alpha I outdrive. The 454 puts out 330 hp and the Alpha was later down graded to 300 hp. So don't firewall the throttle from a dead start. Just ease into it and the outdrive should last quite a while. I had one on our 1987 25' but it's considerably lighter than the 268's of the same era. We still had the original drive and hadn't experienced any problems. They are great boats and you will love cruising the San Juans! You just missed a 2.5 week trip that a whole bunch of folks went on last summer. It was a blast and I can't wait to go again, but it will be a few years before I'm able to take two weeks off!

Are you keeping it on a trailer or in the water somewhere?

Todd:

Do we tell him about the super secret handshake and the "other" website?? Maybe we should wait until he gets his sig line and some pictures?

I'm planning on taking it on an overnighter to Friday Harbor on Oct 11th....weathers looking halfway good. The plan is to just trailer it over to LaConner and have them sling it in/out. Then I'll keep it at my place over the winter so I can work on it. Next spring I plan to keep it dry stored in LaConner for the summer. A couple of different reason for this. 1-My truck is not heavy enough to keep hauling it back and forth. Maybe the occasional trip, but not on a regular basis. 2- Launch fees run about $30/ in-out. If I store it over there I can have up to 5 in-outs / month, which is basically the storage fee right there. I'll have to go with this plan till I cook something up that's better.

Ahhhhh "the super secret handshake and the "other" website" you say. Guess I'd better get the sig line up to speed so I can be with the "in" crowd:grin:

We have to meet on the water before the handshake.
Seriously though, some of us locals are also on a local boating forum(very similar to this but all types of boats) it's iboatnw.com/forum You should check that one out too. This place is great for the SeaRay and good boating practices/habits and info.
Iboat's great for the local flavor
We have a Oktoberfest weekend planned on Oct 17-19.

I buy the annual permit at the Swinomish slough (Under Twin Bridges). It pays for itself in about 3 weekend trips.

I trailer it though.

"Oktoberfest weekend planned on Oct 17-19." as in a boat trip in the sound??

So can they sling it in/out where you launch? How much for an annual fee?

Sorry, I'm a little slow on getting in here.... But welcome to the club !!

Yes. About 8 boats so far are going to Poulsbo for an Oktoberfest Rendezvous. Anyone here interested is welcome to come
Here's the Thread @ iboat.com/forum

It has all the info for getting your slip, etc.
Aslo,
I have the launch permit for Swinhomish launch. It's a trailer launch open all year round. $75/yr

To Go to Poulsbo I'll go out of either Everett or Shilshole depending on the weather.
