New Starboard mount for my new Generator

HMMMM...Well there is def. no gasket around the hatch...I will have to look into that.

How did you get power to your lights in the engine room. I assume they are 110V. In the side hatch in the cockpit there is a 110V plug in right beside my battery selector switches and a hole for all the wiring to go down. I could do a string of 2 lights with a plug in on the end I guess?

As for the backing down on fish...I will have to get a lot better at fishing first to invest whatever that would cost....haha

Do you think there was at one point? Perhaps same kind of gasket that is on our large engine room hatches inside the salon? Wonder if a gasket would keep any extra noise suppressed? Although I am surprised how quiet 2 mains and a Genset are when the doors are closed.

My bilge layout is a little different than the 400DB.......I had no 120VAC in the engine space, but the main bulkhead was a perfect spot to locate light fixtures. I just pulled a marine grade 12/3 wire from the main panel thru the bulkhead then added a plastic 4 gang exterior junction box and made a cover to accommodate 2 Carling breakers and 2 Carling switches.........because I added a 120VAC outlet as well as the 120V bilge lights. Each has a dedicated breaker as well as its own switch on the main bulkhead in the bilge. I added a "master" breaker to the main panel in the salon for the bilge circuit. The added 120V bilge lights are a permanent addition and are wired that way. It turns out, I use them more than my regular bilge lighting when I'm working on the boat.

Ok awesome, thx for the info...Perfect Rainy day project. Gotta do that and repaint my racor filters. Then the engine bay will be spotless. When I had my boat re powered I had them paint the ER. The mechanic I had in there a few weeks ago doing the valve adjustment, said your lucky this boat spent most of its life in fresh water. I laughed and said thx for the complement haha

Here are some pics of the new Generator. Anyone know if there is an actual air filter in the newer westerbeke gens? My old one just had a plastic canister before, but the new one looks different. Also from a previous picture it looks like the raw water impeller is on the side now and not at the back. I hope this is the case but haven't been aboard to check for myself.

According to my manual there is a paper filter inside the air intake housing. There is a spare filter in my spare parts kit that came with the boat - so I guess there really is one in there. My 8.0 is only one year old so I haven't tried to change it yet or verify it really is in there. Water pump/impeller is indeed on the side. I can access it pretty easy. I'll be on the boat tomorrow so I'll take a picture of it. I think the starter is the only item of interest in the back.

So how come my generator is white? The old one was red. Yours is red. Everyone I have ever seen is red.

Awesome that will make it much easier to change. I was told Red is the standard color and white is an option. My original was red but I had it painted white 4 years ago to match my white cat engines.

Here is the water pump/impeller cover plate. It's on the side right next to the belt guard.

This actually makes my day after thinking of the BS it took to change it on the old style. Also nice that once you change it you can properly rinse off the spilt salt water to avoid the corrosion. Thx for the pic.
